Attending the Ryder Cup - Tips or advice? (1 Viewer)

Friday will be my first time attending the Ryder Cup. It's overwhelming trying to figure out logistics and the course layout with the crowds. Lots of fear of missing out if we don't do it right.

1) Any difference in setting up on a hole vs following a certain group?
2) Obviously a trip to the pro shop for swag....better to get that done first or last? Not sure I feel like lugging it around all day.
3) Any other advice to maximize the experience?

Thanks and LFG USA.

We went to Whistling Straits in 2021 .. Only had Sunday tix..

The way that was set up was you walked thru the merchandise tent on your way in. Not sure if it's always the same. Pro tip, if you are in the area, Monday everything is sale priced and half off or more but popular sizes are slim.

Food and drink prices are stupid high, but it was still a blast. We never set up on any one hole except the first tee just for a few golfers, after that, we walked the course all day.. We were in the stands when Bryson drove the green and eagled #1.. the place was electric!

I'd recommend getting the portable radio/earphones to listen to live coverage.. One person in our group had them and we kept asking him what happened when we'd hear the crowd erupt.

Still one of the greatest live sporting events I've attended.. #1 being the "Trouble with the snap" when MSU came back from the dead and beat Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Never been to the cup, but having played the Black course.......its a BIG property and many of the holes on the front 9 are separated by some pretty dense trees. So I think it will probably be a pain in the *** to be constantly moving with a group. (as I'm sure a lot of people will try to do the same)

I would certainly try to see some groups tee off 1 (just for the atmosphere) but once they make get close to making the turn I'd try to park myself in the stands behind the 11th green (you'll be able to see play on 9, 10 , 11 and the 12th tee shot) and then maybe move on to the area between 15 and 16 (they basically run parallel and they built out a ton of infrastructure for the event) before trying to see some groups finish.

IMO, the coolest shots to watch will be first tee shot (they've made it drivable), 4 (signature par 5. AWESOME hole) the 8th tee shot (really pretty par 3) and then the 15-18 stretch. A lot of the other 4's (while all very nice holes) play kinda similar so once you've seen one, you've kinda seen them all. 17 is a pretty long par 3 with a LOT of bunker protection and there could be some drama there. 18 will play short so i imagine there will be lots of flip wedges into the green (if matches make it that far)

I like that 9, 10, 11, 12 spot. And I read the average match lasts 16 holes so that could be a nice clustered spot for some movement in matches. Thanks!

Not a problem. Just not sure if there's a convenient path to get directly from 1 to that corner. (there might be some paths cut through the woods for the event, but I didnt notice them when I actually played the course 2 years ago)

Looks like the best bet is to walk up to the first green, continue up the road to 15/16 and then back track past 14 and 13. Probably quicker than walking the entire front 9.
