Hi guys,
I've been in a 12 team auction league for 9 years and I love it. Hell, I fly from SC to Chicago to get to the draft! Anyway, I had a strategy question as well. Don't mean to hijack the thread or bring in a little Asst. Coach Forum into this, but my question is somewhat general in nature, too.
We can keep three players from the previous year by adding $3 to their salary ($270 cap, roster below). I'm keeping Anquan and Gore, both at excellent values. My dilemma then involves my third keeper. I can't make up my mind between Portis and his high-but-not-terribly-high salary (still some value, at least until the injury) and Galloway, who is dirt cheap. Further compounding the problem is that of the top 20 RBs or so, we will likely be left with Rudi, KJones, Westy, and Dunn (Edge and LT2 maybe, depending on their owner's decision). Not sure what to do, and that brings me to my general question:
Do you go with the better value now (Galloway, hands down) even though it might not be as high a quality player, or do you keep the reasonably sure-thing (Portis - I'm well aware of the risk), so that you can definitely be ok at RB? My head is spinning, and I've got until Thursday to figure it out. I'm glad for any specific help you can give me, but I'm also interested in how you guys handle keeping players in an auction setting.
Thanks!
Matt
