Austin Collie To Miss Several Games (1 Viewer)

The grab him ASAP line is related to the fact that he is in the best passing attack in the league, with one of the best QBs to ever play, still in his prime. Collie is out for 2-6 weeks by all reports, and Gonzalez played the slot (Collie's spot) before he was injured. When he did play, he put up impressive numbers. People are jumping on him because with Collie and Garcon hurt (finger), Wayne drawing all the attention, and Clark out, there is a possibility Gonzales can come in and put up numbers comparable to Collie. It's not as if he is a lesser talent than Collie, Gonzalez has elite talent so he could seemingly immediately put up WR1/2 stats. His only problem is his injury history, and if he stays healthy. If people are willing to take gambles on players like Torain and Foster who have had injury problems in the past, why not Gonzales? I like Mike Williams as well, as he has the talent deep down, but he is in a far worse offense with a QB that in his prime was not even close to Peyton. Not to mention Gonzalez has proven he can prosper in the NFL when healthy, this is the first time BMW has shown he isn't a bust. Mike Williams should be a sure thing to put up decent numbers, but Gonzalez has a higher ceiling.
 This articulates it very well...

Quote from Peyton Manning re: Blair White TD

Good stuff :

"Blair [White] had run a couple of slant routes and they were playing inside, so he said to me, 'I think I can get him with a slant and go.' We encourage that kind of feedback. Now, I don't have to do it, but he said that a slant-and-go would give him a shot. That's the thing our practice squad guys always know: They're one injury away. They're talking about the 18-game schedule and cutting the offseason workouts. Well, Blair White does not get ready to play if you take those away.''

-- Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning, on his touchdown connection with former practice-squadder Blair White, in a column this morning by Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star.

Sorry, but you are MISTAKEN. That was White.

"Isn't White the guy that caught a big TD reception from Manning earlier in the year to seal a game? And when asked about that in post-game Manning said that he had a really good rapport with White because they practiced a lot together in pre-season to get on the same page. And, that in the play before the TD throw White came up to him in the huddle telling Manning that his defender wasnt guarding him well so Manning should throw him the ball (whicih turned out being the game winning TD)?

If it's the same guy, it sure seems to me that White already has a rapport with Manning..."

That was Collie
No, I saw the telecast and the announcer stated that Manning and Collie had been working together a lot and this is why they were so in sync...and I grabbed Gonzo

If it was White then the announcer got it wrong because I was watching with 3 other people and afterward we all went to see who had Collie (none of us did) and I ended up trading for him. So either the announcer was wrong or it was Collie.

Trying to guage Gonzo's value with all of these injuries. Where does this put him? In PPR solid 2WR? Non PPR where?
My question too, is this an over reaction to grabbing Gonzo ASAP. Aren't there better WW options still out there like Seahawks Mike Williams or even Panthers Steve Smith who is on our WW. Gonzo hasn't played in a long time and the last time he did he got hurt again. Are we talking Colllie #'s for Gonzo or a bye week plug in. Myself I decided on Mike Williams instead.Someone help me out with the "Grab him ASAP" line.
Can only answer for myself, but in the leagues I'm in there is nobody close to Smith or Williams sitting on the WW. (I actually grabbed BMW with my #2 ww spot yesterday).

 What does this have to do with the announcer stating that Manning and the receiver worked hard in the off season to build rapport??? It doesn't. All this shows is that White caught a TD pass (which he did). Collie has 6 TD's, but that doesn't mean anything either. I am 100% sure the announcer talked about the off season workouts for Collie and Manning. In fact, why would Manning be working hard in the offseason getting his timing down with a practice squad guy instead of Collie?

Also here is some video evidence to put it finally to rest.

Thanks for posting this. I was at work before, didn't want to search on Youtube. Now that we've established it's White, why would we think he has any less rapport with Manning than Gonzo does?
OMG, are you guys for real or are you trying to write things to give people wrong information? Maybe I should youtube one of the 6 TD catches by Collie to "prove" my point.

???? Nobody's saying there havent been an yTD passes from Manning-Collie. This isn't about Collie. It's about White. And they're not mutually exclusive. I was just saying that earlier this year there was a game winning TD throw from Manning to White, and when asked about it after the game Manning spoke about how much work he'd put in with White in the off-season to establish a strong rapport. What's the big fuss about?

It's pretty simple. Accoring to the Indy Star, Gonzo is going to take over Collie's spot. To me, that makes him the guy to go after.

Liquid,

Maybe we are talking about two different things, I don't know. But to answer your question about Peyton and White practicing together in the offseason, IT HAPPENED. The instance was when the 18 game schedule came up and a reporter asked Peyton what he thought about it. He went on to say it was a bad idea because part of the 18 game schedule would reduce the OTA time in the spring. He went on to say that the OTA time is very important as that is the time he gets to practice and get reps with guys that he wouldn't get to otherwise, HE STATED BLAIR WHITE as his example. I hope this answers your question.

Snipped from this article by Phillip Wilson - "… The Colts have yet to clear up what’s happening with WR Austin Collie, whose injury is undisclosed … While Collie is second in the NFL in catches behind WR Reggie Wayne, if he’s out that creates an opportunity for WR Anthony Gonzalez, who should be ready to go after the bye week. I have little doubt Gonzo will be back."

Then further down the page this …

"If Collie out, expect Gonzo to be in the slot, although the Colts can still mix up the alignments because Gonzalez has played out wide, too. He was a slot guy in college, but he can be versatile. The key is can he stay healthy. This also means rookie Blair White could get more of a chance to make some plays. He’s handled himself well in limited time so far, including a TD catch in Denver. Peyton Manning hasn’t seemed the least bit reluctant to throw it to White, which is a positive sign."

I like Gonzo's pedigree but White definitely is worth stashing if you can afford to grab him given Gonzo's health issues over the last two seasons.

Is there any clarification on when he is expected to return? I saw that he was dropped in one of my leagues which seems bizarre considering he may be back as early as Week 10. He clearly has great chemstry with Peyton and should continue to produce when he gets healthy. I want to pick him up, but want to make sure I am not missing something. Am I taking crazy pills?

Austin Collie (thumb surgery) returned to Colts practice on a limited basis Wednesday.Collie's initial timetable was 2-6 weeks. Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star now believes he has a chance to play in Week 9, which would put him at the most optimistic end of the recovery period. Wilson called Collie's return to a limited practice "encouraging." Ultimately, the Colts may need to push Collie back with Anthony Gonzalez (knee) hurt again.
