Baby names (1 Viewer)

We had a girl on June 22 and named her Charlotte Elizabeth. Based on this thread, we're apparently pretty boring.

We're going w/ Madalyn Elizabeth if we have a girl.

Love the name Charlotte, but we adopted a cat named Charlotte so it's taken.

Our collection of friends with kids here, have the following names.

Vera, Olive, Anna-Marie, Cash, Roan, Singer, Lucy, Oscar, Xavier, Delilah, Hattie, June, Imogen, Merrin

And we have an Ollie and a Nico

I've always liked the name Xavier :bag: the wife would never go for it

Mrs. The Hank and I are having baby # 2 in about a month -- we are still planning on either Owen Daniel or Amelia ("Mia") Louise

Why would you spell it Madalyn? Unless there's a special reasoning, it's way better (IMO) to go with a more normal spelling becaus eit is a huge pain in the ### to have to get your name correctly spelled when there's a general spelling out there and you don't spell it that way.

Madeline

Madeleine

Are both WAY easier names to have purely because you don't have to constantly get people to spell it right because you;re using a weird alternative spelling your parents gave you for no apparent reason.

Again - if there's a special history or reason for it, then my argument is totally moot. If not, please consider it. It sucks to have to spell out your name all the time. Just annoying.

This teacher says :goodposting:

As a middle it isn't weird. Is it a family name? I like it.
Nope, no family name. Thought it sounded cool which is a recipe for horrible names later on I admit. Then again, it's just a middle name (though I think I would use it for a first name if the wife agreed).

as a guy who has to spell his last name approximately 20 times per day, i wholeheartedly endorse this posting.

My wife has this thing that if anyone we know has a child of the same name, we can't go there. I liked Ella, but one of her friends has a daughter named Ella. We ended up deciding on Ellie for the first name and Paige as the middle name (which happens to be my grandfather's name). I'm a bit concerned that Ellie may not be the best name for an adult (I just think of a child when I think of the name, like Bobby or something), but she can always fall back on her middle name I guess. My wife didn't like any of the common names that are shortened to Ellie like Eleanor, Ellen or Eloise. I wanted my son to have my name, but that was vetoed right off the bat. Of course my first name was a point of confusion when we first started dating as there were 3 people with my name in our house (My dad, Myself and my step brother). No point in adding another one to the family I guess. We were leaning Evan James if we had a boy.
If you think Ellie is too cutsie for an adult, she could always just use Elle. We have three generations of my oldest sons name...my son, his dad and his grandfather. They each have a specific variation (Don, Donnie and DJ oldest to youngest) and it works fine.
We went with Eloise for our new daughter, Elle for short. We like the old names that aren't all the rage today. Thought it was a nice name and not too cutesy for an adult.

3 years in, I'm good with it. Actually prefer Ellie to Ella as a name now, but of course I'm biased.

Unconventional names from our family

Abigael, Finley, Quinn(girl), Piper, Bryne, McKenna, Jamison, Reese, Wyatt, Knox

Maybe not unconventional, but not your normal Tom, ****, or Hairy

I would guess many of the names you listed are in the top 15 for current kids. Being a teacher, it's hard to think of a name without associating it with a student, which isn't a good thing in many cases. Every once and awhile you catch a unique name and a great kid too. If I ever have a daughter, I really like Alora.
