Bad precedent mods, RE: moving the missing jogger thread (1 Viewer)

comfortably numb

Footballguy
Instead of correcting the posts/posters in the FFA thread that started turning that into a political thread we just move it to the PSF?
They now have 2 threads dedicated to the same topic.

Feels like Tim used his connections with the mods to pull some strings and get it moved, thereby forcing people to the P/R forum.

Wish they would have just moved the yoga pants thread to the PF instead of just killing it altogether.

Need a secret decoder ring to figure out how these boards are moderated lately.

I don’t always think tagging/reporting to the mods is the best course of action like was done with that thread.

We should self moderate better. If a poster is bringing politics into a FFA thread, kindly and respectfully request that poster discuss the issue in the Politics Forum.

What also can be done is just to start a new FFA thread and remind everyone in the OP to not be political.

Really?

Didn't Joe specifically ask that is exactly what should be done. Report/tag the mods?

You recommend people should start a new thread after 5 normal pages then 2-3 people come in after the awesome news they heard and start a political jizzfest?

Not sure why clipping the obvious posts and letting the 2-3 posters know to chill wouldn't be the better way.

Sending it over there lets poeple know they can do what they want and they'll be rewarded by getting another thread tossed into their forum.

Threads like the one that was moved are a beacon to certain people.

They don't have the common sense or decency or awareness or self control to refrain from dooshing up threads like that.

Asking them nicely or even pointedly doesn't work with some of them - that was tried in that thread.

I wish it could have been cleaned up instead of moved, but I also understand it takes time and effort to do that and it was easier to move it.

Hopefully the clowns that caused it to get moved got warnings or PMs.

Also hopefully the mods will respond earlier when they start getting notifications in a thread like that and whack the offenders early before they have a chance to mess it up and overrun it.

No reason to toss it in the trash instead of redirect the regulars to their pool.

By the time it was moved, that thread only existed for a few folks to argue politics.  I don't expect the mods to babysit by picking through a thread to selectively warn or delete comments. Agree 100% with the decision.

Why not just delete the political posts in that thread (like they delete posts from many other threads) and stear it back on course?

A mod could easily post in thread and say it should stay on the news of the tragedy.

The body was found. At this point the only thing to talk about is the politic side. Should have been moved sooner.

The ONLY thing to talk about was politics because the body was found?  How sad. What about the motive?  Or how law enforcement sifted through thousands of leads to find the scum bag?  Or the multiple visits to the pig farmer and what warranted those interrogations?  The poor family and closure?

Yep, nothing left to discuss but politics.

Exactly. Tons of stuff to discuss now.

Right, that is what they should have done. Moderation is inconsistent, though. My point is there are ways we can work around this inconsistency. And sometimes getting them involved in the first place isn’t always the best option (despite what Joe has said).

There were still a lot continuing details and facts of the case to cover that had nothing to do with politics or immigration.

So no. I completely disagree with you.

I guess "easily" is the key word here. I didn't spend much time with it once it went political, but I don't think it would be easy to trim out individual posts, issue warnings, monitor, respond to inevitable reported posts, etc. That's what I'm referring to as babysitting. I expect the mods to spend next to no time or effort on the free side of the board, and focus on the revenue side. With that in mind, no complaints.  Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back.
