Has anyone tried group play yet? Still looking to get multiple copies of this for me and the kids, but wondering if we could realistically all play together or if it would be better to do separately.

How old are the kids? It is a 17+ game imo.
I'm going to very gently push back on this, with the acknowledgement that maybe I'm not the right person to judge this sort of thing. After playing around briefly with the genitalia options in character creation (because men never really get any more mature than they were at age 14), I opted to turn off nudity someplace in the options. Also, I never "romance" anybody in video games. All of the sex-starved characters in this game got shot down by me early in Act 1 and they know better than to bring the topic up now. This version of the game is basically PG-13. I got the part with the ogres having sex with one another, but that was a 2-second thing and I didn't think anything of it.

You're right that this an NC-17 game if you just fire it up and run with it, but in fairness it doesn't force anything on you that you don't want.

This is really good feedback. The kids are teenagers, one very streetsmart/savvy, one not so much.

I saw such great reviews on this and almost downloaded but after reading this thread, am not sure the turn based thing is for me. Sounds so strange to me (never played D&D).

Funnily enough, I was just thinking the other night that this game kind of sexually harasses you throughout. For example, I rescued Halsin back in Act I. I've spoken to him a couple of times. Seems like a decent enough fellow. Now out of nowhere in Act III, he's suddenly propositioning me out of nowhere. Dude, it's been like 20 actual game hours since I've so much as talked to you. I've never taken you out on a mission, not once. Why are you propositioning me? That is seriously creepy.

Now I feel like I can understand what hot chicks have to put up with.

SPOILER: Not sure what is a spoiler and what isn't since this game is over a year old. I'll try to stay as general as possible in my review but I may slip up. Read at your own risk.

Finally finished the game for the first time on my third character. I had started and stopped twice because 1) first time character creation mistakes and then 2) didn't like the mechanics on how my character played/fought. Not a knock on the game, just learning as I went along. The game is absolutely amazing.

RUN 3: Went with a Warlock so I could run an Eldritch Blast/Persuasion/Deception build with some limited (but powerful) spellcasting. Threw some into Dex for the AC and lockpicking. Just an amazing game and unbelievably long for the price. Filled out the party with Life Cleric ShadowHeart, Fighter Lae'zel, and Barb 10 - Fighter 2 Karlach. Very powerful party and great synergies the whole way through. I didn't use any of the other camp freeloaders. The game didn't give me the option of charging them rent and that is a flaw in the game.

The third Act felt like more of a quest fetch than anything else. I think I was level 11 walking into it and maxed out maybe 10% in. It's weird that the game is so big that the leveling gets out of whack towards the end of Act 2. And so does the gold. I didn't shoot the locks off the wallet until Act 3. I just bought all the potions and emptied traders gold at all times for acts 1 and 2. I think at the end of the game, I had 45k in gold, ~15k in scrolls (I used 4 or 5 the entire game), ~60k in weapons, and ~80k in apparel. All of the weapons and apparel were non-basic as I just sold all the basic crap as I went along. And probably another 10k in odd and ends that I picked up thinking they might be important. I somehow ended up with a dead rat in my trunk and just left it there sitting next to some torsos and arms that I thought would come in handy (spoiler: they did not). Which leads me to one game request: I'd like the ability to rename backpacks so I knew what I was stashing in them. It seems silly but it would have been nice.

I really enjoyed the bigger epic battles that didn't allow for long rests. Actually managing resources as opposed to just bedding down whenever felt a lot more satisfying at the end of a good boss battle. I know that's on me but I wanted to be as fully charged as possible moving through the game as food (like XP or gold) was never in short supply. The game could certainly use a couple more of those grinds or have some mechanic so I couldn't just long rest after taking 1HP of damage to my temp hit points (slight exaggeration). Again, yes, that is on me and my playstyle with this run but I still think they could tie together a few more fights into a no long rest battle in all three acts.

I'm sure glad I gathered all those allies throughout the game only to never use any of them when I actually could. My party could easily handle the hordes of enemies they threw at me at the bitter end. I accidentally ended up cheesing the final fight and had the win in round 4 with only one party member down and a giant mass heal on the way. Along with health potions coming out my behind.

I think my highest roll was a Persuasion roll that I got a 42 on. I didn't need to use Inspiration to pass a Perception/Deception checks in Act 3 and most of Act 2. Speaking of, there are way too many Inspiration gains in Act 3. I was maxed out and got at least a dozen of those (and probably closer to 20) that basically only made my party happy. Which is fine, it just got funny to get a myriad of pop-ups that basically say, "You win and earned nothing of use or value, congrats!!!"

In the end, BG3 is absolutely amazing especially for a game that was really crisp out of the proverbial box. I'm floored that the game gives you seemingly limitless choices and they clearly planned for any and all choices. That's craziness. It's time to put the game down for a bit but I already have ideas on my next playthrough (thinking Monk with a dash of Rogue) which is certainly going to be on Tactician.

The best battle, IMO, was the Goblin Camp in Act 1 if you chose to slaughter them. It seemed like you were in that sweet spot with the rush of enemies being tough and your level didn't allow you to overpower the field. Having said that, there are a ton of super fun fights that I look forward to in the next run.

Not sure where everyone else is, well, except for IK. Pretty sure that guy is banging Halsin by now.

I wish there was a version of this game that was like XCOM, where you just do the combat and team-building without all the dialogue and role playing. As much as I enjoy the turn-based combat, I absolutely cannot motivate myself to start a new character because I can't handle having to replay all the story-related stuff. It's a fantastic game, just a bit much for my tastes when it comes to replayability.

I completed the game as a Bard. It was really hard at first, but once I got to Act III it almost became too easy with all the access to money, high quality gear, and powerful spells. It took a while to adjust to turn-based combat, and not sure that's really for me. Fun game though, especially the exploratory aspects.

I am stuck at 50% completed in my first play through and am going to simply start over with a new build. I actually went the Warlock route but it is not connecting with me and I finally realized that.

I want to run with a Spell Sword build when I restart this incredible game.

You can actually fully re-spec your character and change your class mid-game. The only thing you can't change is your character's race.

Yeah, this was the other reason behind my first two attempts ending. I'd put the game down for a while, come back to it, and be equally confused about what I was going for in the world of BG and what I was trying to do on the battlefield. The best option just ended up being starting over and skipping through dialogue as quickly as possible. But even that takes quite a bit of time.

My playthrough was 185 hours with about 10-12 hours to be idle time of the game on but me not at the helm. I tried to do damn near everything I could in each act.

I've done three runs at this point, one normal and two honor mode. Such a great game. Did my third run with Tav as a Persuasion/Deception Bard build. Talked my way through all four of the Thorm fights.

I convinced three but not the tollhouse one. I don't think I had an option as I would have taken it with my Warlock build. I also don't have the achievement associated so I'm guessing those are related.

I just want to give a big shoutout to the developers for including co-op in this game. I'm playing as a foursome with a group of buddies. I hate how so many games use the story as a crutch and either don't include co-op because they feel like they'd have to write the extra co-op characters into the story, or make co-op some horde-like side-mode for the same reason.

This is perfect. Just stick us all in to the main person's game. The cutscenes can completely ignore that there are 4 of us. The whole story doesn't have to revolve around that. Heck, we actually lose part of the story (because we can't have any of the built-in characters like Astarion etc in our party, so can't do their story-specific stuff) and the devs still didn't use that as an excuse, and the game is still super fun in co-op. I wish more devs would follow suit.

They even threw in a fun little bone to us where, when in conversation the person that started the conversation gets to make the conversation choices, but the other party members can vote on what they want the main person to choose (and they see the vote pop up on their screen).

The only real downside is that the non-mage characters have to wait a lonnnnnnng time between turns during combat late in the game once the mage characters can summon like 7 creatures (so they are getting 8 turns for every 1 turn that a fighter character gets).

Okay so my game may be stuck/bugged.

We just defeated Gortash to get the 3rd netherstone. Now have to head down to the sewers for the elder brain. However any time we try and go down to the sewers (either by walking there or fast traveling) it gets stuck on the load screen.

I searched it on the official forums and there is a thread on there from September of last year about it, and people still complaining about it, so looks like it was never fixed? I don't suppose anyone here has run into this and found a solution?
