I played a little Under 8 +119 at Pinny here in the Nats game, along with a little Nats ML and RL as well. Two decent (not spectacular) pitchers here in RFK means we should get a total of 8. I took the huge vig and think the Under is the right side here. I don't know why this play justifies a 6.5 unit wager, but as you said you may be steaming from the Houston play, so that is fair. I think this is a toss-up play.
MP, I felt like answering here, so bear with me if I ramble. The reason I felt like answering, is although I don't care for you, I do sort of respect your train of mind when handicapping, and I think we are of the same type of character. Gambling after all is an ego trip thinking you are smarter than someone else, no? First off, yes I was still steaming, thus the reason I prefaced my bet. I do not want anyone following my plays blindly, EVER. And I want people to know my state of mind when I make larger than normal plays.
Secondly, I have been playing football and college football for about 15 years now, with a moderate degree of success. My best year was about 7 years ago, and my worst year was quite honestly last year. I chased a lot, and I posted a particularly awful Bowling Green bet here which I lost a lot of money on. I am a newcomer to baseball betting.
That being said, my wagering unit in baseball is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than my football wager. I'm not saying my 6.5 unit bet above was insignificant, as it represented approximately 1/3 of my current balance in my account, however, that same bet in football would barely register a unit. When I bet 10 units on a Bowling Green second half wager, rest assured that I am watching that game intently. If I place a 5 unit baseball bet, I will not even blink if my wife wants to go out to eat, or my son wants to play ball outside.
Now, as to why I played this game, I offer the following. I went to an Astros game earlier this year, and watched Hernandez pitched. Not one of his offerings was over 84 mph, the entire game. Ironically enough, I played baseball when I was younger and was adept at it. I never played football. If a junk pitcher is out there, I have no faith in him striking out batters, he wants the ball in play. Tomko is a journeyman type pitcher who is actually decent. However he is prone to blowups as he has a nice fastball, but kind of straight. In this instance, I believe the under was set too low because Washington is a pitcher's park. However, neither team is comprised of mashers, more of the singles/doubles types hitters, thus the larger than normal wager.
I do not want to come off as preaching here, just explaining my situation and my play. I do usually try to justify my plays with a blurb as I know I enjoy reading others plays too.
