Baseball Wagering (2 Viewers)

Alright, I took a night off after the Astros debacle. That was a 13 unit swing and I was pissed.

Still unhappy, and probably chasing, but I sent in one biggun'

LAD/Was o8 6.5 units

I still contend Livan Hernandez is very hittable, and Tomko has never been a lights out type pitcher. Both teams have been hitting decently lately, and the Dodgers have been a run scoring machine. I was going to play them straight, but I don't trust Tomko, and Washington has some late inning heroics.

Played a few small parlays too.

Nice matchup in Minny tonight, Hernandez vs. Liriano. I'm on Hernandez, as the price is right.

bonus prop bet:

Dallas to win by 1-3 points, +892

g'luck
I've been losing on similar baseball overs this year, so I'll pass on that one, but I love that hoop prop.

I played a little Under 8 +119 at Pinny here in the Nats game, along with a little Nats ML and RL as well. Two decent (not spectacular) pitchers here in RFK means we should get a total of 8. I took the huge vig and think the Under is the right side here. I don't know why this play justifies a 6.5 unit wager, but as you said you may be steaming from the Houston play, so that is fair. I think this is a toss-up play.

I bet this over as well :bye: But only because you talked me into it

I quit betting baseball, ya know :loco:

:goodposting: I haven't played a MLB game all year since I'm busy with poker. I took my old fav. MP off ignore last week when SLBD pointed out some funny Marshallisms to read and forgot to ignore him again. Came in today and saw more of the arrogant, condesceding routine and took that as sign to make my first sports wager in a long time. Picked up 4 units, gracias. Keep em coming :lmao: :banned: Congrats to the other over cashers.

MP, I felt like answering here, so bear with me if I ramble. The reason I felt like answering, is although I don't care for you, I do sort of respect your train of mind when handicapping, and I think we are of the same type of character. Gambling after all is an ego trip thinking you are smarter than someone else, no? First off, yes I was still steaming, thus the reason I prefaced my bet. I do not want anyone following my plays blindly, EVER. And I want people to know my state of mind when I make larger than normal plays.

Secondly, I have been playing football and college football for about 15 years now, with a moderate degree of success. My best year was about 7 years ago, and my worst year was quite honestly last year. I chased a lot, and I posted a particularly awful Bowling Green bet here which I lost a lot of money on. I am a newcomer to baseball betting.

That being said, my wagering unit in baseball is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than my football wager. I'm not saying my 6.5 unit bet above was insignificant, as it represented approximately 1/3 of my current balance in my account, however, that same bet in football would barely register a unit. When I bet 10 units on a Bowling Green second half wager, rest assured that I am watching that game intently. If I place a 5 unit baseball bet, I will not even blink if my wife wants to go out to eat, or my son wants to play ball outside.

Now, as to why I played this game, I offer the following. I went to an Astros game earlier this year, and watched Hernandez pitched. Not one of his offerings was over 84 mph, the entire game. Ironically enough, I played baseball when I was younger and was adept at it. I never played football. If a junk pitcher is out there, I have no faith in him striking out batters, he wants the ball in play. Tomko is a journeyman type pitcher who is actually decent. However he is prone to blowups as he has a nice fastball, but kind of straight. In this instance, I believe the under was set too low because Washington is a pitcher's park. However, neither team is comprised of mashers, more of the singles/doubles types hitters, thus the larger than normal wager.

I do not want to come off as preaching here, just explaining my situation and my play. I do usually try to justify my plays with a blurb as I know I enjoy reading others plays too.

g'luck

:lmao: :lmao: I wasn't arrogant. It was a toss-up total to me and I took the +119 vig. Nice cash on the over Guru, Gambino and co. I picked up more on the Nats than the Under anyway. If you would like me to post my card for you in the upcoming days I can Gambino - fade away.

Guru - I respect you and your posts here. I even posted how I figured you might have still been steaming from the Oswalt loss and that's fine - I have been in your shoes before. I was stating why I liked the Under - once again, toss-up with tons of vig, so I played it.

,May 24 2006, 01:45 PM]Wow... posted that +140ish was good value on the yanks last night but didn't have time to post a bet.

Tonight, Randy Johnson at +121 against Clement?!

I know RJ isn't himself... and I know it's in Fenway... but come on.
 Tonight I think it's easy to bet AGAINST the Sox again. Kazmir +102? He owns the Sox and we've got Wells coming off the DL after a miserable start in AAA where he got lit up. Tampa Bay has a solid offiense and WILL post some runs on that tub of goo....

YTD:

6-0 on Red Sox Games

8-1 overall

TONIGHT'S WAGER: Tampa Bay (Kazmir) +102 vs Red Sox (Wells) - 1.5u

TB: LHP Scott Kazmir (7-2, 2.39 ERA)

The southpaw is riding a career-high five-game win streak. Only 22 years old, he owns the Rays' last three wins at Fenway. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Kazmir is the first left-hander to defeat the Red Sox in Fenway three times before his 23rd birthday since before World War I.

BOS: LHP David Wells (0-1, 15.75 ERA)

Wells is 18-12 with a 4.44 ERA in 44 career appearances at Fenway Park.

Players to watch

Aubrey Huff has a .391 career average against Wells with a home run and four RBIs.
Ok, you talked me into 1.5u
 I'm going to apologize in advance on this one...

Who could have put Wells on a stellar start (after getting destroyed in AAA) and Kazmir on getting lit up (when he's owned the red sox in EVERY start).

It's just one of those game where you gotta say :loco:

I apologize that you hopped on for what might be my first sox loss :(

YTD: 40-41-3 -2.42u

Tonight:

LAD -117

ARI -1 -118 2u

MIL +106
#### you Turnbow. Guy screws me again...can't pitch when I have money on Milwaukee.
Not so fast, great DP by Koskie at third base. 5-5 heading into the 10th. I have Milwaukee and had some Under 9, but that lost when Turnbow gave up the double to Howard.

Nice, hadn't updated yet for me...still alive. I still hate Turnbow though.

Now back up 6-5. I love Turnbow, what a great young arm he is. Tough that he blew the game in the 9th, but Milwaukee may still win this game.

No problem, we all post bad choices at times. Luckily my Mavs under wager looks like it will easily cover the loss.

Big on the terrible Cubs on the ML and RL today with some Under 9.5 and a parlay as well. Great spot for a Cubs/Under parlay here. Eat it up Gambino... ;)

Sidenote for all of you that play the dog system still. There's a guy on another board that plays the same system and is up over 28 units on the year, so it does look like it's faring well.

I have stopped keeping track but it has done well for me. I just withdrew 25 units from my account. Like last year I dont play it blindly. I pick and choose which ones I like. Some have argued and rightfully so that it is no longer a system the way I do it. To me it is another tool and a good one.

Was not sure where to put this bet.

AFL San Jose/ Arizona O140.

I feel like a degenerate betting on that. I have not watched one AFL game this year. I have 0 basis for betting the over. It is a playoff game and is on NBC here at 12:30. It will keep me entertained until the Padres game starts :bag:

WOW did anyone see that fan take it to the side of the head?

Stl/SD game there is a guy walking behind homeplate and a foul ball hits him in the temple. There is a screen there but you see it give and the guy was pretty close to it. He looks ok as they are checking him out but it looked scary

 poor choice

Not sure why Brian Giles would get picked off at 1st with 2 on, 2 out and down by 1 in the bottom of the 9th. Only the guy at 2nd needs to score to tie the ####ing game :hot:

Bedard +127 against a guy who has never seen the big league bump before....

I'll take my chances
I grabbed +132 here, it's a nice price for Bedard. Lots of public money coming in late on LAA as this line has now jumped about 15 cents in a matter of hours. Last game of the night to wager on, usually means money coming in on the fav. I thought my +132 was the best line, but Pinny is still holding +134. Let's hope this cashes, but with my baseball luck today, don't hold your breath.

Hi :hey: I was at the Sidewinders game last night and saw Scott Hairston. He signed my kids hat, baseball, and glove(I have 4 kids).

Anyway I know you said to say hi to him but I didnt know how to say "hey I am on a msg board :nerd: for hours a day gambling and this guy in there knows you and wants to say hi"

PM me your name and how you know him and next time I will tell him you said hi and you are rooting for him. Real nice guy. Kids really liked him. I bet he said this is the last one while autographing about 5 times, but he stayed until all the kids got one.

One bad thing about last night. We were sitting front row just past third. A foul ball came at us. I had my glove and I was all set to make the play. The ball took a bounce in the dirt and I took it in the wrist. My wrist is swollen and black and blue. Worse was that sound you hear from the crowd behind you when you muff it. :wall:

Fun night at the ball park though.

 Funny you say this, I checked up on his stats last night. He is playing really well, I'm surprised he hasn't been moved up yet. How much more gas in the tank does Gonzo have?

Not much on today's card I really like. Sunday's are usually difficult, as you're never sure who's going to get a day off.

But I punched the following:

Hou/Pitt o 9.5 +107 (1.5 units)

Sure these are two mediocre offensive teams, and the fact Berkman is hurt doesn't help, but these are two awful pitchers going at it too, Nieve vs. Perez. In fact, as bad as the starters are, the bullpens are even worse. And neither team is that good defensively either. All other things being equal, I think both teams put some runs on the board and like my chances with the over.

Atlanta (Smoltz) -208 to make 1 unit.

Yes, heavy, disgusting chalk pick, but the facts are these: Smoltz is one of the better starting pitchers. His opponent Jae Kuk Ryu I've never heard of, making his major league debut. The Cubs without Derek Lee are not a very imposing offensive team. I have to think the Braves are going to win this one. I was considering laying the runs on the RL, but decided to just play it safe in case Reitsma comes in later.

g'luck

Gonzo still looks pretty good to me. Shawn Green is the guy I thought should have been shown the bench. Of course as soon as I started saying that he started hitting well again. Here in Az a few months ago we thought Carlos Quentin would be the guy sent up for Green. I guess not though. I have started hearing rumours of trading Quentin and Hairston. I want to see these guys succed but at the same time we have an awesome Sidewinder team here that I really enjoy watching. Stephen Drew is awesome and I am pretty sure if Counsell ever got hurt he would be called up. It is nice paying triple AAA prices to see true MLB quality players.

I parlayed the two but I played the Atl RLHou/Pitt O9.5 +105

Atl -1.5 -140

:tumbleweed:

I'm parlaying KC -1.5 and TB -1.5 for the 20-1 odds

.3u to win 6u
:lmao: I thought I was the crazy parlay king but you have got me beat. Have you ever hit one of these?

I take a lot of crap for my parlays but if I hit one every once in a while it is all worth it. Not just money wise but that feeling I get is great.

I hit them more than enough. I have not had a losing year in over 8 years. I posted and bet a winning 8 teamer here last NFL preseason.

Awesome  I love that ####2 years ago I hit 12 team parlay in the NCAA tourney. I only put 2$ on it and I was paid 130? (I dont recall the exact #).

That was the biggest I ever hit and I wish I had put a little more but I never really thought I would hit something like that.

Like you said I hit them enough to make it worth while.
