Bears DEF/ST (1 Viewer)

After what the Pats did to the JETS last week, I am a little nervous about starting any DEF vs them. They are yielding the least amount of points to opposing fantasy defenses this year. HOWEVER, the forecast for sunday in Chicago is calling for high winds, snow and cold temps. Now, we've seen that Brady can excel in poor weather, but I'm not sure that was against above average defensive teams like the Bears.

Under normal circumstances, I am scouring the WW this week, looking for a denver, san fran or buffalo team with a better matchup. But, this weather has made me wonder if the Bears can create some turnovers and keep the scoring down vs the Pats this week.

What is your opinion on this particular matchup?

I brought this up earlier in the week and the consensus was to sit them.

If your league penalizes for yards the Bears have given up 350 yards on average the last 2 as well as 5 yards per carry.

The Pats Offense made the Steelers and Jets look bad and the Bears D actually plays right into the Patriots hands because they like to give up the underneath routes.

Obviously, if you have NO other option you have to roll with them.

great, thanks.

I have played the Bears defense every week this season except for their bye, but I am going to bench them this week and try my luck with the Broncos. They should be available on most waiver wires, and I think that with their matchup against Arizona, they should at least put up some decent points.

My other option was going to be to bench all defenses and just take the 0.

On the other hand, if I wake up on Sunday morning and there is a blizzard in New England...I may put the Bears back in.

Games in Chicago, but if you live in NE dress appropriately

lol

Grabbed CLE and DEN off the wire because DEF/ST is my biggest concern this week.

Now I get the pleasure of debating this crap for the next several days

I believe ST's should be taken into account if your league counts it.

Patriots ST's....average to below average

Bears ST's....one of the best in the league AND Hester is back in his groove.

Personally, I would be playing Cleveland without giving it a second thought.

Yup. Fitzpatrick has been good this year, but he has cooled down a bit. Cleveland's defense is pretty solid for the rest of this year.

After that scinitillating 2 pt performance vs Stanton's Lions, how could you possibly bench that red-hot Chi D ?

I doubt the weather is going to affect the Pats offense much. The Patriots are a cold weather team and Brady mainly throws underneath dinks and dunks anyway.

I believe the Windy City is supposed to be quite windy for the game (field goals could be interesting). <-- I believe thats what I heard on the radio this morning...

But yeah I got scared off of Brady too (sitting both TENN and CHI) I picked up Atlanta for this wk, just an fyi TENN would have got me 1.73 points. To be totally honest though if MOP decides to post about DaBears chances for returns & picks, I may just start CHI. It is a home game, close battle w/ GB for DIV, and I believe Forte should have quite the running game. We could be talking about alot of clock time being ate up w/ both teams trying to run and short dink/dunk pass's. On a side note NE doesnt usually lose two games in a row and plays @ GB the following wk.

On a negative note Im close to CHI and we like to say "if you dont like the weather, wait a day itll change" So it could be a bright sunny afternoon (but the forecast time is getting much closer to game-time)...

Again Im personally not condoning starting CHI, just making sure that we're all aware that the weather could play a factor for possible info... I appreciate any insight into thoughts on the game. (quite a few pertinent names for IDP in this game too) I believe it will be a H^ll of a game.

Edit: Again Im not in CHI, but the winds are pretty strong here. I still have some time to decide but really leaning towards CHI. Im slightly concerned with who will be playing strong-side LB (run support, short or TE pass's)

I'm still undecided. I can see the Pats pounding BJGE with a lot of success. I know the Bears have a top run defense, but I think the Pats can run block anyone.

Currently about 3 blocks from the stadium. Snow is coming down sideways. Gusts are already hitting 35 mph. The storm is supposed to get worse as it moves in.

I don't see how anyone is passing the ball in this. I couldn't throw the ball 20 feet without it blowing backwards. I can throw it like a pop up and it lands behind me. Im no Brady or Cutler, but its bad here.

i'm thinking punts could get blocked, fumbles and ints. i know the pats take care of the ball...but our league rewards for score and yardage. and i can't see much of either with these condition.

I had picked up CLE this week to start in place of the Bears DEF, but now the weather is making me reconsider. Still on the fence... playoff game for me.

bump....now that you've seen the field, the 30 mph....how many of you are starting the bears def?
So conflicted over this. The Bears D has been solid overall for me this year, but they've had a few clunkers. I was determined to sit them this week in favor of TB (vs. WAS), but with this weather I'm not close to putting them back in!

Could largely depend on your scoring system. If it's heavily weighted to scoring/yards, could be a good start since it figures to be a low-scoring game. If weighted towards turnovers... man, I have no idea. Could be a sloppy game, but could also see the Pats just playing a very straightforward game, holding on to the ball, and being happy to win 10-3.

Thought TB defense had some injuries they were dealing with? Not sure how safe an option that is, but I don't know...

I had TB defense in, but just pulled them out. I'm rolling with the Bear's today, just like I have all year.

Patriots-Bears Week 14 matchup in Chicago will be impacted by freezing temperatures, strong winds including gusts over 40 m.p.h. and several inches of snow. That could impact the Patriots' passing offense and could mean less-than-ideal numbers for Tom Brady, who is the hottest quarterback in the league right now. Snow isn't the issue -- last year he tossed six touchdowns in the snow at home vs. the Titans -- but the wind is. That game against the Titans had moderate winds; a home game vs. the Jets in 2007 had slightly stronger winds and the team opted to run the ball and Brady had no scores in what would be his least productive matchup in his record-setting season. Working in Brady's favor is his experience in the poor conditions and the Patriots' dink-and-dunk offense that allows for lots of short, quick-hit passes that won't be affected by the wind. “There will be low visibility, probably even in the stadium,” National Weather Service meteorologist Richard Castro told the DeKalb Daily Chronicle. “There will be snow on the field, and that will be blowing around with the very strong winds. The other thing is, being right on the lakefront, that’s where we’re expecting the strongest wind gusts out of this storm.”
