Pretty simple. You have to lose. Assuming you had a choice, would you rather make it to the NFC title game and lose to your arch rival, or just lose this weekend, and get it over with?

Why?

I don't mean to be a pest, but the voting is evenly split and no one is giving a reason - I am interested to hear the reasoning.I think for each team it might be different. For the Bears, I think a win over the Seahawks is necessary simply to show their "validity" as a playoff team. As such, I think a loss to the Packers in the NFC Championship - even at home - is more palatable than losing to the lowly Seahawks. In fact, so much so that I think a loss to the Seahawks reopens the Lovie Smith contract discussion.

Bears fan here. I would rather lose to the Packers in the NFC championship, because that would mean one more week of football with my home team. Simple enough.

I voted lose now, not later. IMO any season that ends in a loss flat sucks (yes, I've seen decades of suckage). If that final loss sent the Packers to the Super Bowl it would suck infinitely harder. While I would consider it a missed opportunity, I would eventually forget a divisional playoff loss to a plucky Seattle team that bounced the current Lombardi holders. An NFC Championship loss at hallowed Soldier Field that sent Green Bay to the Super Bowl would haunt me until the day they plant me in the ground.

Which is exactly why I thought to post the poll. I am curious how Packer fans see this. They've already won a playoff game - they're also playing the #1 seed. UIMHO, it's a different viewpoint for Packer fans. Losing this week to the Falcons would likely just be seen as something akin to "well, they won one, then had to face the best team in the NFC, who had a week to rest..." For Bear fans I think it's a little different. Packer fans, what say you?

I'd love the Bears to have allowed the Packers into the playoffs only to lose to them in the NFC Title game. Great plot there. If the Bears won, I'm ok with that. I'd then hope the Bears would win it all of course.

This is what makes this a real tough one to answer. I think I might have to go with you though. Losing to GB in Chicago for a chance to go to the Super Bowl....man that will hurt alot and for a long time

I think it would be tougher to lose a home game to the Packers (as a Bears fan) than it would losing a road game. If the role were reversed, and the Bears came to Green Bay and won under similar circumstances, it would be one of the greatest fails of all time. So I see your point in this post.

Still, I believe you have to go as far as you can. Beating Atlanta and making the NFC Championship game would be such a springboard for Green Bay going into next season, the loss would motivate them more than anything else. Even if it is to the Bears.

Packer fan - If they have to lose, I would much rather they lose in Atlanta this weekend than lose to the Bears. Its not close for me - easy answer.

Ironically, if the Bears (like the Packers already have) had already won a playoff game, I'd probably feel the same way. But the agonzing part is that for the Bears, it's kind of a no win situation - unless of course they win both this week and next week, presuming the Packers actually beat the Falcons. If the Bears lose to Seattle - most say "See, they shouldn't have been the #2 seed - they couldn't even win a home playoff game after a bye against a team with a loosing record." If however, they beat Seattle, many will still say "Big whip, look who they played!" - especially if they lose to the Packers at Soldier Field the following week.In fact, I honestly think the only way the Bears fans can really "tolerate" a loss in the next two weeks is if they win this week, the Packers lose, and the Bears play Atlanta tough and come up just a bit short in the NFC Championship game. Any thing else would be be agony (sports-wise) for Bears fans...at least this one.

So, while I actually have a very real chance at going to the NFC title game if it is here in Chicago, I will be rooting for Atlanta Saturday night to save me the possible pain and suffering (mental and psycholigical) of seeing the beloved lose to the Packers live and in person. I don't want thousands to see me cry.

This would bother you? I really don't care what people think about the Bears.

A loss is a loss. While I would love to see Rodgers advance another round I don't want to give the Bears a shot at the Super Bowl. Enough said.

Not soo sure, but I think I'd rather the Packers lose to the Bears. If they don't make the Superbowl then at least this young team gets more big game experience.

Tough one though, as I would dread a Bears Superbowl.

If I knew that the Packers were going to lose, I would much rather it be this week to the Falcons and then let Atlanta beat the Bears next week. The thought of losing to the Bears and allowing them to go to the Super Bowl would make me sick. On the other hand it sure we be sweet for the Packers to go to Soldier Field and beat the Bears for the right to play in the Super Bowl. That is going to be a carzy game if it happens.

This.

I can't believe anyone would want to see their team lose this week, rather than next week. A Bears/Packers NFCC game would be epic and though obviously it would rip my heart out to see the Bears lose to the hated Packers, I would love all the intensity and passion that would fill the week prior to the game.

I think the week's intensity and passion would be quickly forgotten as the Packers celebrate their NFC championship on the Soldier Field grass and their drunken fans begin their superbowl celebration in the stands, throughout the concourse and along Lake Shore drive.

I'd rather shove an ice auger up my pee hole than lose to the bears and watch them go to the Super Bowl.

Except I'm a Packers fan if you didn't know.

:kicksrock:

OK, I jumped the gun, when I saw this post by Kleck, I fully agreed.
