Bears sign Marion Barber (1 Viewer)

#Bears sign RB Marion Barber. Not to be repetitive, but they still have yet to address their offensive line in free agency.

This obviously hurts the value of Forte's fantasy value as Barber is a potential TD vulture. Barber has lost a step, he doesn't break that first tackle anymore, something Bears fans will grow tiresome of watching with their less than average O-line. I think Barber will continue to struggle, just like he has in Dallas the last couple of years.

Sometimes we talk about players with notable names that get signed by a team with hopes for a return of the glory days but all you really get his the high profile name and that may be what happens here.

Love the signing for Chicago. The Bear offense was much more effective when running often down the stretch. In dynasty, the Forte owners should toss out cheap offers for him. The games the Bears lost in 2010 had pathetic rushing yards.

As a backup running back, I'll take him. I don't think they expect him to return to his "glory days". He has to be better than Taylor was last year.

MBIII can be in Chicago, what he did good in Dallas. Bring him in as the closer.

He has to be 100% healthy though. He's not a guy who can be banged up and produce.

That's exactly what I was thinking too. Last year, or maybe in 2009, I can't remember.. some announcer said he had "a quarter size hole in his quad" or something like that. There's that, and many are saying that his wheels have all but fallen off, but for his age (turned 28 in June) I have heard that he has relatively low rushing attempts.

I guess I am the contrarian here but I just don't get this signing. He does not seem like a Martz system guy. You brought in someone who had more left in the tank and a similar style of play in Taylor and never used him. Why bring in someone less capable at this point in his career and (presumably) get rid of the better player? I think Barber still has some left and could be a valuable backup for a lot of teams but I am not seeing the fit in the system and I am not getting the replacement of Taylor.

I don't really understand the dropoff in MBs stats...still relatively young, no career threatening/limiting injuries.

Here's a guy that I wouldn't be surprised if he was a factor in the league again.

Taylor had 112 carries in 2010, which is the most he'd had since 2007, so it's not that he wasn't used. He averaged 2.4 yards per carry, which is plenty of reason to bring in another back.

Barber was used up by Wade 3 years ago. I can honestly say that Barber is the only "backup" running back I've ever seen used up in one year. He didn't even have a huge number of carries, just took a beating everytime he touched the ball. And the guy was never made to be a starter. I think he actually helps Forte's value somewhat. One they see that they flushed $5 mil down the drain on Barber, Forte will be overused because there's no one else in town.

MB3 was used up a lot by the Gophers too. I think he had almost 40 carries vs Alabama in the bowl game. Plus his style was the same and he took quite the beating.

Good point. I don't see him being much of a factor in Chicago. And certainly don't in Fantasy Football.

This is a great signing for the Bear IMO. He hasnt lost a step, he never had a step. He smashes over you and hurts your feelings. He never outran anyone. He still has that. Forte is the starter and when you need a yard Barber will get it.

Being a Dallas fan and loving MBIII, I can also tell you that he is a great blocker and really good at picking up the blitz.

I think Bears fans will love MBIII, he has that Chicago smash mouth style, even if he is playing for the San Fran limp wristed stylings of Mike Martz.

Allows them to flank forte out more possibly. Martz loves lining forte out wide left often. Maybe a boost for fortes catches?
