Even though the Bengals never do anything that makes sense, I find it hard to believe they will start Dalton if he doesn't show improvement. I think the rookie QBs are going to struggle even more so than normal because of the loss of OTAs.
I agree, but who do they put in? Gradkowski? Palmer?
Palmer will never play another down for the Bengals, so Gradkowski. He isn't the greatest, but he was respectable with Oakland and they don't have much in the way of skill players. The point is Dalton is a rookie that had no OTAs. That is a really big deal for a rookie QB. Of course, this is the Bengals, so anything is possible.
dalton met with gruden immediately after the draft and was given a play book to study. he worked with the first team when camp opened on 7/30. gradkowski wasnt allowed to practice until 8/4. i dont think its at all unreasonable to think dalton is more familiar with the offense.
The courts upheld the lockout on second day of the draft, the first rounders were the only ones able to get playbooks from their Offensive coordinators, not the second rounders
Having a playbook in your hands is a lot different than going through OTA's, getting your reps, and getting coaching. Regardless of when Dalton got his playbook, Gradkowski is much more comfortable with the offense. In addition to being a veteran and Dalton a rookie, Grakowski was brought in because he is familiar with the offense as it is similar to what was run when he was in Tampa.

i think this is a reasonable perspective but imo it is nullified by gradkowski's track record of sucking at nfl quarterbacking

Tivo'd the game and read this and the other Bengal 0-16 thread before watching the game. Based on the comments, I was expecting a disaster. Dalton actually did a decent job moving the offense. He had 4 drives. After a bad pick on the first one, he led the Bengals into Detroit territory the other 3 setting up 2 field goal chances. Benson were running well and Dalton finished 11-15, although most were dumpoffs. He rushed a couple of throws but looked about as good as you could expect for a second round pick coming in with limited offseason. I think Gradkowski starts the first 5 or 6 games and Dalton comes in after the bye.Simpson and Green may have WR3/Flex value in PPR as they will catch a bunch of short passes as Bengals will be behind a lot.

It was only Cincinnati, but the Lions defense is going to be really really good. The Lions offense still has to show they can run the ball, but they have three very good QB's and some pretty good targets so their passing game is going to rack up the yards. I am hoping they have an healthy OL when the season opens.
Gimme a break with the lions defense every game they win will be shootouts
Like it was when they beat the Packers last season?

Any news on how Dalton looked?
Like a typical rookie QB that is being thrown into the fire waaay too early. He is going to check down more than Trent Edwards and that is saying a lot.
He looked completely lost out there. That INT he threw was severely underthrown. He didn't put anything behind it. He had a chance to step up and make the throw.Gradkowski looked decent. If the Bengals want to win more than 2 games this season, they should go with Gradkowski.Shipley might catch 70-80 balls this year in that offense. They might only go for 700 yards, but in a PPR he could be a legit WR3.
I totally disagree on Dalton. Other than his first throw (which was poorly under-thrown) He didn't look lost at all. In fact, all three of Dalton's drives (after the INT ) got the Bengals into Det. territory. Two of which turned into scoring opportunities. Dalton just missed on a fade route for a TD and a missed FG where a penalty killed the drive that would of given the Bengals a 1st and 10 on the Detroit 15. The other possession ended in a failed 3rd down conversion on the Det 45, which should of been completed but Pressely and Dalton read the throw differently. Pressley played the ball to be on his right shoulder and Dalton threw it to his left. If Pressley would of read the left shoulder read, he would of caught the ball and picked up 5 or more extra yards and the first down. And the so called check downs... 3 of them were designed screens. 2 RB screens and one TE screen. I felt that after the first series Dalton made correct reads and made the correct throws. Two of the 4 drives could of easily lead to TD's. One just missed on a fade route, and another throw was in the endzone where Dalton made the throw to Simpson a sec too late and the corner jumped the route and broke up the play.

Yeah, the one that Rodgers was concussed

Normally I stick up for the defenders who get fined, but he deserved that one. Ridiculous play, especially in the preseason.

Suh fined $20k for Dalton hit.

AdamSchefter

Ndamukong Suh hit Andy Dalton, NFL hit Suh. RT @ndamukong_suh: $20,000REALLY???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #NFL #BIGFAIL
Suh-nami is gonna be fined a lot this year, and often. He is just bigger than the game right now...
My guess is that it won't be that often since he's going to start racking up suspensions in addition to the fines. My guess is that the next one will earn him a one game timeout.

Suh had better be careful with his comments about fines or he will become a marked man by the NFL. Yes, he is already a great player, but he is also a dirty one, and pissing off Roger Goodell will not help his cause when it comes to borderline hits.

I'm sorry, but I'm with Suh on this particular hit. Did he grab him high? Yes. Did he blast into him by leading with his head? No. From the angle in the video, you can see that the helmet came off when Dalton was running into another player (not Suh). Suh follows the "loss of helmet" by twisting Dalton to the ground.

I'm not a Detroit homer. Not a Suh apologist either....and I fail to see how this ranks up with guys coming off the end and launching themselves like missiles toward a QB's head or by picking them up and driving them into the ground. It just seems like a huge overreaction to me. But maybe Goodell is starting off the new CBA rules by being quick on the draw.

Send me your address, Suh. I'll send you a $.

The only dirty play I can remember Suh making was the preseason face masking penalty on Delhomme last year. The push on Cutler was BS and this was a penalty, but was not a dangerous play.

I was at this game. Our seats were at the player entrance and we noticed at halftime, Jermaine Gresham was the last player to exit the locker room. We noticed that he had a significant limp and walking gingerly (looked like a lower leg injury).

Considering I have not seen any reports of this injury, it is probably not anything serious.

Since you asked about injuries, I thought I would share that.
