ThisIt's better history than it is chili. It's a part of DC lore and worth going to for that reason. But the chili is nothing special.
Here is the official DC thread (used to be for Va and Md burbs too). Not to hi-jack this thread, but going to DC last week in June and need some "good" places to eat (two kids - 12/15) We are staying just north of the White House and using the Metro to get around.
We will have a car but it will be sitting in hotel parking for $45 a nightHave been told/read to not even try to drive around DC.

Depending on where you are coming from (and staying) Georgia Browns is a wonderful southern restaurant. (15th st NW, between I and K streets - not far from the White House) and steps from McPhereson Sq metro station. Not to hi-jack this thread, but going to DC last week in June and need some "good" places to eat (two kids - 12/15) We are staying just north of the White House and using the Metro to get around.

Two other nearby favorites that have great food: Fast Gourmet and G. Love the Chivito and the Cuban at Fast Gourmet, and the Drewno at G (also available at Nats Park). Three of the better sandwiches I've had in town.Pretty good for what it is and definitely a DC cultural stop. But I prefer Ben's Next Door when it comes to the actual food.
This is good to know, thanks.Ben's is also in Arlington, Va now if you're stumbling around that way...

You can hit that instead, but I'd note that the history/culture is really connected to the original U Street location (the Arlington location just opened up). So, if want the traditional "Ben's experience," at the same place frequented by Cosby, Obama, et al., I'd go to the U Street location. This is good to know, thanks.Ben's is also in Arlington, Va now if you're stumbling around that way...
