Benson/AP (CHI) - anything new? (1 Viewer)

The Benson blows thread has disintegrated, so I'm starting another. There's been some speculation that AP might start gradually stealing carries from Benson as '07 progresses. Wondering if anyone has heard anything one way or the other with the Bears coming out of the bye.

The Bears are very stubborn and unwilling to admit mistakes. With the Raiders unable to stop the run I expect them to give Benson every opportunity to have a good game this week. If he can't run well this week it's never going to happen.

i know benson has been struggling, but i can't see the bears starting AP (this season). i don't blame benson alone for his struggles. the whole offense, and now defense too, stinks. just keep in mind that i've been wrong about just about everything else this year, so you may want to go ahead and trade for AP immediately.

Heh. I have him in a dynasty, he's not worth holding in a redraft at this point, if you're not a Benson owner. But having lost Barber, Dillon and Vick all in the same year, I'm kinda desperate for a starting RB.

That's me too. LT is a must start, but the Cinci Running game is in Baltimore and they might be a wee bit pissed after that MNF debacle.The Jags running game is in Tennessee. Another tough team to run on. I think I am going to roll the dice on MJD having a nose for the endzone rather than go with Benson.And before you guys bust my chops that I'm in some sort of 6th grade girl scout league with 4 teams just know that this is a dynasty league. None of these players was drafted in the offseason rather they were trade for...

Talk here in Chicago is that Benson will get the rest of the year to show what he can do. Management thinks the line is a big part of the problem.

I do not see Peterson taking over the starting role since he is a special teams ace and they can not afford to lose him there.

As a Bears homer I know that Benson will get at least every opportunity the rest of this year and probably all of next year to prove himself as a featured back. Chicago suits are far more concerned with their image rather than putting the best possible players on the field. They will quietly can him in '09 but we will suffer until then. Peterson is without a doubt a better RB than Benson but honestly Peterson is not the answer. Peterson is very effective as a change of pace back but nothing more, especially given his concerning amount of fumbles. The solution to the Bears running woes is not currently on the roster.

I wish management would draft or trade for a blue chip runner before the '08 season but that would be an admission of guilt of a wasted pick on Benson. Barring that ideally I would like to see them address the QB problem this offseason then in '09 get a RB. They would have several years of growing pains with a young RB and QB but at least then they might have a foundation to build on. The defense is already crumbling so they can't expect to win games 6 - 3 anymore.

I read this somewhere too - that both the GM and head coach restated their committment to Benson after the BYE wek.

Actually, it looks to me that Detroit has picked it up on run defense after the Philly debacle. Only 1 week giving up over 10 points to a running back over the past 5 weeks.

Seriously kid, the discussion in this thread is around the distribution of carries in Chicago. You've added nothing to the discussion... instead baiting other posters to try to turn this into a "Benson Blows" thread part II. I'm sure you've got plenty of time on your hands, put it use and offer some cogent football analysis. If Benson "blowing" hasn't (and likely will not) lead to AP getting more carries, which is what this thread is about, then why repeat it over and over again?

I still think it's a crappy start. This game is in Oakland which should lead to a stronger D performance and Benson should make them llook like Gods...
