Joe Washington 1978 - Baltimore vs New England

Washington caught a 28 yd touchdown pass, threw a 52 yd touchdown pass, and won the game with a last minute 93 yd kickoff return.

Colts beat the Patriots 34-27 on the road in the rain in the game where Baltimore rookie RB Joe Washington took over the second half to beat New England nearly single handedly by throwing, catching, and returning a kickoff for touchdowns!

Good article on Joe Washington

The Brett Favre performance after his father died has to rank up there as well.

What individual performance on MNF would you rank near or at the top?

Yeah, that IMO put the "Boz" out of football. At least it let the world and Bosworth know he didn't belong.

No, a poor medical diagnosis by both OU and Seahawks medical teams put him out of football. Bo just added a little...A LOT...of salt to the wound. Good call on Joe Washington and Favre. Rice's MNF game that saw him break the touchdown mark, which I am pretty sure was against the Raiders, and Barry Sander's game against the Cowboys were pretty good ones too.

I sat through a game last season without hitting the mute button.

October 24, 2005. The gloomy autumnal sky over Chicago fortold a long night for the devout football watchers, young and old alike. But the satellite was working and nachos were flowing when long in the tooth but full of fight Vinny Testaverte led his New York Jets in front of a packed house in the Georgia Dome for a match up of the ages against the human comet known as Michael Vick and his band of Falcons. In a game that boasted less total yardage than a good half for the Indianapolis Colts, John Madden was in rare form, rattling off pointless insights sure to send the staunchest football fanatic screaming for his remote. Al Michaels stood shoulder to shoulder, his legendary career visably tarnishing before our very eyes and a look on his face that seemed to wonder where Pat Summerall kept his stash of bourbon. The man who brought us the Miracle on Ice seemed to lose brain cells with each tick of the clock as the confused windbag at his side let loose his trademark succession of non-sequitars and barn yard noises. But back in Chicago, Buehner sat firm. At any moment Vinny T could be accordianed into shapes not meant for man, and that hope burned fiercely in this competitor. All the disturbing references to butt sweat, Q gaps, and settling down on a little farm in Mississipi to raise little blonde haired #4s weren't enough this night to bring about the reach for the remote. The game may have been over by halftime, but Buehner pushed on from whistle to whistle, and when the final knee was taken, it was Madden who was coated in cooking oil and wedged into his triple wide RV and Buehner who held the ground as the local news washed over him. Truly, a performance for the ages.

Lewis only played in five games this season, but his performance against the Broncos in Week 4 still lingers as one of the best single-game efforts this season. Afterwards, John Madden called his play in the first half the most dominant by a defensive player since Lawrence Taylor. By the end of the game, the Ravens had upset the Broncos with Lewis leading the way with 18 tackles, an interception and a huge block on Chris McAlister's 107-yard return of a blocked field goal

Good call.

off the top of my head, Mr. Favre's performance vs Oakland after his father passed was good to see.

best team performance: Jets vs Miami, Miracle at the Meadowlands.

Santana Moss hanging 30+ fantasy points in the waning minutes on back to back TD bombs v. the Cowboys to give me a 1 point victory against my arch rival.

TO's 3 td's against Dallas were pretty nice

I was up 25 with Akers and Philly's d going and playing against To, yes I lost

I hate that guy. :hot:

I also agree with Favre against Oakland after his father's death.

SCREW Brett Favre....

This is a no brainer imho...

Eric Dickerson ran for 159 yards and four touchdowns as the Colts scored on seven of their first nine possessions en route to a lopsided 55-23 victory over the Broncos. It was a record-setting night, both individually and for the team: Dickerson's four rushing TDs tied Earl Campbell's MNF single-game record, and the 55 points were the most ever scored in a Monday Night game, a record that still stands.

Once in awhile you guys should try to think outside the box and actually respect the history of the NFL - instead of the 'flavor of the week' or some BS that occurred recently.

SCREW Brett Favre....
:lmao: Of course! He owned the Bears on Monday Night! :lmao:
Pffffttt... THIS Brett Favre is a shell of his former self. Lovie Smith OWNS Favre. From Tampa to St. Louis to Chicago. Favre is Lovie's personal beoatch.Jim McMahon's game up in Minnesota was better than Favre's BS game against the Raiders - and Mac did it coming off the bench in a portion of a game. Too bad it was a THURSDAY night football game though. THREE TD passes in 7 attempts. THAT is getting the job done - it catapulted the Bears onto the national spotlight, and the rest (as they say) is history.

McMahon`s magic saves Bears

By Don Pierson

September 20, 1985

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jim McMahon talked his way into the game and played his way into America`s football consciousness Thursday night in one of the most dramatic quarterback performances in Bears` history.

McMahon threw three touchdown passes in seven throws in the third quarter to lead the Bears to a 33-24 comeback victory over the Minnesota Vikings, who thought they had a pretty good quarterback themselves in Tommy Kramer.

With his back aching and his right leg infected, an angry McMahon convinced coach Mike Ditka to let him replace Steve Fuller with 7 minutes 22 seconds left in the third period and the Bears trailing 17-9.

First play: 70-yard touchdown pass to Willie Gault.

An interception by linebacker Wilber Marshall five plays later gave McMahon the ball on the Vikings` 25.

Second play: 25-yard touchdown pass to Dennis McKinnon.

``After the first two plays, I told him, `Third time`s the charm,` `` said Walter Payton.

The Bears got the ball back on a punt and McMahon completed two of four passes before hitting McKinnon for a 43-yard touchdown.

In the span of 6:40, McMahon had completed five of seven passes for three touchdowns.

``I must have been blessed tonight,`` McMahon said. ``I can`t remember the last time I threw three TDs like that.``

Most amazing was that none of the touchdown passes was planned.

``The first play I almost fell on my face. I felt like a fool and thought, `What a start,` `` McMahon said. ``It was a blitz, and luckily Willie was looking, so I threw it up. It was supposed to be a screen pass to Matt Suhey.``

The second and third scores were versions of the same crossing patterns that McMahon and McKinnon turned into touchdowns in the first two games of the season.

``The receivers said they were open downfield, so when I got in there, I was looking downfield,`` said McMahon.

McMahon had not started because he had not practiced and Ditka said he feared risking further injury.

``I don`t know how you write scripts for the kind of game you saw out there,`` said Ditka, who turned and shook his head in disbelief on the sidelines after McMahon`s third touchdown pass.

Gault finished with 6 catches for 146 yards, his most productive day as a pro. McKinnon finished with 4 catches for 133 yards, his most productive day as a pro.

The whole thing even tickled the sore ribs of Payton, who struggled his way for 62 yards on 15 carries and said he never had seen anything like McMahon`s performance.

``It was like one of those Notre Dame old-time movies,`` said Payton.

The victory put the 3-0 Bears in sole possession of first place in the National Football Conference`s Central Division, which threw a new and modern image onto an unsuspecting public.

``This was an AFC West game,`` said safety Gary Fencik.

Kramer completed 28 of 55 passes for 436 yards and 3 touchdowns against the proud Bears` defense, which finally sacked him 4 times and intercepted 3 of his passes.

``He`s got eyes in the back of his head,`` said Bears` defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan.

But McMahon turned the nationally televised show into his own private showcase. He finished with 8 completions in 15 attempts for 236 yards and a renewed image as a miracle worker.

``I haven`t played on national television for so long I wanted to show my friends I could still play,`` McMahon said.

``I was praying he was coming in,`` said McKinnon. ``He is known to have miracles happen.``

McMahon had not practiced all week because of a mysterious kink in his back and an even more threatening infection in his right leg.

``Looks like gangrene to me,`` McMahon said.

The leg flared up on Wednesday. McMahon said doctors told him it was the result of an open wound on the back of his passing hand that has not healed.

McMahon spent Tuesday afternoon sitting in the bleachers at the Bears` Lake Forest practice site chatting with his idol, ABC-TV commentator Joe Namath, while his teammates worked.

``That`s why I wanted to play. He was doing a thing on me at halftime about me keeping healthy, and here I am sitting down. I was glad to get in and show him I could still play,`` McMahon said.

Fuller completed 13 of 18 passes for 124 yards, but the Bears managed to score only three of Kevin Butler`s four field goals with Fuller at the helm. They had the ball in Viking territory seven straight times under Fuller, but sacks and a costly interception in the end zone had them behind 10-9.

Kramer was magically eluding the Bear pass rush and moving the Vikings downfield. When he hit wide receiver Anthony Carter for the first of his two touchdown catches, the Vikings were ahead 17-9 and Ditka turned to McMahon.

``I got in his ear during warmups and told him I felt ready. I stayed in his ear at halftime and then after the first series of the third quarter, I said, `Let me go, I`m ready,` `` said McMahon.

``We just needed a spark. We were moving, but we just couldn`t get it into the end zone.``

Did the game plan change?

``I didn`t see much of the game plan because I didn`t practice,`` McMahon said.

Even after McMahon`s third touchdown pass, Kramer wasn`t through. He hit Carter for a 57-yard touchdown bomb to bring the Vikings within 6 points at 30-24 with 9:19 left in the game.

So McMahon struck again. After the referee had to stop the 30-second clock because of crowd noise, McMahon hit a streaking McKinnon down the sideline for 46 yards to quiet the place down.

An 18-yard scramble by McMahon set up a 31-yard field goal by Butler with 5:35 left that put Kramer more than a touchdown away.

McMahon had been angry all week about his physical condition and Ditka`s insistence on seeing him practice before allowing him to play.

``I wasn`t in a good mood,`` said McMahon. ``I think the reason they didn`t start me was they wanted to make sure I`d be healthy the rest of the year. That`s what Mike told me before the game. I said: `I`ll be ready. Don`t hesitate to use me.` ``

I remember that game. It was on halloween, and everyone in the stands had masks of the MNF announcers. Dickerson ran wild.

Bo Jackson, 221 yards rushing against the Seahawks in 1987.
:goodposting: :goodposting:
I have to agree with this. Yeah, it's a homer call, but didn't Bo have most of those yards in just the first half. He finishes the half by just continuing on down into the tunnel. And the Bosworth stomp was fantastic. On a side note, I basically broke down when I found out that his football career was ended by that fluke injury. IMO, he was the most phenomenal two sport athlete we were ever going to see in this generation.

Maybe not the best performance on MNF but what about Randy Moss introducing himself to the MNF viewers with that great performance against the Pack in '98?

5-190-2

Only two TDs but 5-190?

haha, wasnt his first three rushing attempts all TD's? Remember the watching the game and it was just silly everytime he touch'd the ball.Bo would be my runner-up

Brett Favre's amazing performance was the best ever. It transcended the game and made Favre fans out of people who normally never even watch football.

I'll second that. The Tyler Rose dominated against the Dolphins. I am also partial to the BO performance.

Yeah, the Boz didn't belong because he could catch Bo Jackson. If that's the standard you're setting then 90% of the LBs to ever play the game don't belong

Yes, he ran over the "Boz" and made him look silly.

Eric Hipple's debut for the Lions in 1981 remains the greatest QB debut in NFL History - and was on a Monday Night:

Hipple accounted for all six Detroit touchdowns and led the club to 485 yards in total offense.....lions beat the bears 48-17.

Detroit - Hipple 1-yard run (Murray kick)

Chicago - Anderson 85-yard pass from Evans (Roveto kick)

Detroit - FG Murray 49

Detroit - Hipple 4-yard run (Murray kick)

Chicago - Payton 1-yard run (Roveto kick)

Detroit - Kane 2-yard pass from Hipple (Murray kick)

Detroit - FG Murray 54

Detroit - Hill 10-yard pass from Hipple (Murray kick)

Chicago - FG Roveto 22

Detroit - Scott 47-yard pass from Hipple (Murray kick)

Detroit - Thompson 94-yard pass from Hipple (Murray kick)

Night of the Hipple

He had some truly phenomonal moments in each - the 221 yard MNF performance was classic partly because of the numbers, and partly because on the 91 yard TD gallop he went right through to the tunnel (Dierdorf: "He might not stop until Tacoma!"). My all time favorite, however, was when he broke the bat over his knee after a strike out when he was with the Royals.

I remember the AFC Divisional game against the Bengals when he hurt his hip, it was a very innocent looking play where he tried to break a tackle for a few extra yards. I think the game was basically out of reach, the the announcers speculated whether he might return.

The best part about Bo is that he appears to have not let the injury derail the rest of his life

Talk about revisionist history. Boz was moving laterally and Jackson was running straight towards the goal line. While it may have looked impressive, Ray Lewis wouldn't have made that stop.

Actually, he was forced to quit for medical reasons (shoulders), but let's not let facts get in the way. He led the team in tackles during the span that he was on the field.Now. Let's never speak of this again.

I mentioned it earlier but he, Bosworth, was given a incorrect diagnosis on his shoulder by OU and Seattle's medical teams. Little hard to tackle or play LB when one of your shoulders is completely shot but you were told it is nothing to worry about.

Even I have to go with this one. I was sick the whole next day at school. My second is Favr vs the Raiders.

Degenerative bone disease too, not just an injury. Oddly, a degenerative condition is what made Bo's injury career ending too.

Understandable. Been there.

I'd go with Favre.

My "insurmountable" lead in our championship game was overcome by that performance. :(

Me also. First game that came to mind when I saw the thread. Favre's performance was a nice tear-jerker, but in terms of pure performance, no way does that or any other MNF performance come close - esp. when you also consider he had little support on O (in fact the Colts were MUCH worse team than NE in general) and oh btw it rained. No-brainer answer.

The Brett Favre performance after his father died has to rank up there as well.
Favre's performance was the second most memorable by a Packer QB on Monday night. Who can forget Lynn Dickey getting the better of Joe Theisman in a 48-47 game at Lambeau in the early 80's? I think Dickey had about 400 yards passing that game and the Packers won on a Jan Stenerud FG with Mark Mosely missing one for the Skins in the final seconds. I believe the Redskins were NFC champs that year and were heavily favored to win at Lambeau.
