FixedScanning the top 100 BA leaders of all-time and the top home run hitters, I am hard-pressed to find a better playerhitter than Manny who has not won an MVP.
I guess the closest would be Eddie Matthews or Mel Ott, but I'm not sure how to compare them.
What say you?
I get in a lather when Mike Francesa starts professing his man-love for Manny. He always gets me hot.Sweet. The Manny discussion in the FFA has been lacking lately.
Just off the top of my head here...I'm going to go with Mike Cameron and Khalil Greene as the top 2 not to win an MVP.
JD Drew down?Wait...I changed my mind. Manny is the best not to win an MVP.David Ortiz is right behind him. Then I'd go with YoooooouuuuukkkklisThen Varitek...he's wicked smaht back there

There are some pretty darn good players on that list! Except for Boggs and Winfield of course.Other notable players that have never won the MVP award (not including pitchers):Tony GwynnWade BoggsAl SimmonsHonus WagnerNap LajoieMel OttMike PiazzaHarry HeilmanRafael PalmieroBill DickeyBill TerryJohnny MizeMark McGwirePaul MolitorTodd HeltonKirby PuckettEddie MurrayLou BrockEddie MatthewsAl KalineLuke ApplingDave WinfieldBilly HermanDuke SniderJoe CroninRalph KinerAlbert BelleGary SheffieldJim ThomeCarlton FiskFred McGriffAndruw JonesCarlos DelgadoHack WilsonThere are probably other guys worth mentioning, but those are the ones I could find easily.IMO, Manny certainly is worth considering as best Non-MVP winner.
I never realized Mike Piazza never won a MVP. does defense go that far in MVP voting?!? Kinda makes the Mauer arguement lose steam if the greatest offensive catcher ever did not win an MVP. Mikey even took the Mets to the WS in 2000.I can't believe he finished behind Ken Caminiti, Jeff Kent and Larry Walker. Really does lessen the importance of the MVP and it's voting.Top 10 Most Valuable Non-Pitchers to Never win an MVP Award (for players whose career did not peak before the official award began in 1931*)1. Mel Ott2. Eddie Mathews3. Arky Vaughan (excellent case in 1935)4. Wade Boggs5. Duke Snider6. Mike Piazza (good case in 95, 96, 97 and 2000)7. Johnny Mize (robbed in 1940)8. Mark McGwire (should have won in 1998)9. Craig Biggio10. Roberto AlomarThis leaves out such players as Honus Wagner, Nap Lajoie, Dan Brouthers, and Joe Jackson (among many, many others).
Both of these two were MVP winners.Ty Cobb or Babe Ruth.
