Some good choices in the poll for sure but Pulp Fiction is my favorite movie over the past 30 years, gotta be the one here.

Shawshank may not be Forrest Gump overrated but it's not that far off. I enjoyed it but not nearly as much as most.
Just flip flop the two movies, and I'd completely agree with you.

Damn. I like true romance but this almost makes me not.
I like Pulp Fiction too but good lord, the fanboy lust for this one is off the charts.  Movie posters in every college room, CD played to death...too much bro-love for this one.

The Christopher Walken/Dennis Hopper scene in True Romance is better than anything in Pulp Fiction.  IMO.

What about the Christopher Walken scene in Pulp Fiction?

I think blueberry pancake ##### and QT being in his movie brings PF down a peg from being an all time great.  I like the movie, but not sure it's even one of his best 3 movies because of it.

the first half hour of the film was worthy of Best War movie ever made accolades. The rest, not so much. Shakespeare in Love winning was a joke, but they couldn't give an Oscar for half an hour of greatness and two hours of drivel
I saw Shakespeare in Love at the theater with my girlfriend (now wife).  We were both blown away at the build up and tension.  I really think it deserved it.  We used to see every movie when they came out back then, and we even saw Life is beautiful on a couch at the Cable Car in Providence.  That was a heavy film.  It was #2 that year imo, but it would have won in most other years.

Fight Club also belongs on this list.  It lost to American Beauty, but I think Fight Club has proven more enduring than the overwrought AB.

Again, not even nominated.  Cider House Rules was this year too, but a bit melodramatic for me, I also liked the Insider from this year which is my favorite Crowe performance

I know, but the movie really wasn't that good.
It was a great movie and one of the more important movies of the last 25 years. However, for me, it would rank towards the bottom of the movies I listed. Fargo, LA, Memento, Crouching Tiger and Goodfellas are probably the ones I like best.

ok- I LOVED Rocky, and still do. saw it 8 times in the theaters as a kid when it came out... ran up steps with fist pumps at the top, etc. when it won the oscar for best movie in 77, I was overjoyed. of course, I had never seen or heard of the other movies it was up against:

- Taxi Driver

- Bound for Glory

- All the President's Men

- Network

Rocky's still better than two of those, IMO.
