Best not to offend your target audience in your ad (1 Viewer)

They forgot that Americans only have sense of humor when you tweak someone else.
Not sure I'd say that New Jersians don't have a sense of humor. It would be like a sign in North Carolina that made a joke about how everyone from there is screwing their sister.

It's just kind of dumb to insult your customers.

Yeah I don't think those two are analogous. You seem to have North Carolina confused with West Virginia by the way.

They both insult their target audience. I don't care if you think the definition of analogy is correct.

Point is you don't take a shot based on comic stereotypes to the people you are trying to sell to.

What is this thing you keep saying about NJ being Dove's target audience?

Winning NJ is critical for their product? I'm not seeing the link unless you think NJ people are particularly dirty and smelly.

They weren't calling NJ a pit they said when other people do because surprise other people do.

The billboard was going up in New Jersey. I can only assume they were targeting people from there seeing as how people in other states would have a tough time seeing these billboards.

I'm sure you know Dove is a moisturizing soap marketed toward women.

If Dove made an ad offensive to women it would be offending their target audience.

If they made an ad offensive to men it would not.

With this they seem to be offending the general population of NJ.

What?

Those women reading the billboard are still New Jersians, no?

It's not such an outlandish assumption that those people would realize they live in a ####hole. I don't see what Dove did wrong here.
