Best way to move video from DVR to backup? (hard-drive or otherwise) (1 Viewer)

We are thinking about cutting the cable, but before returning the cable box want to get a couple of things off of the DVR.

Any ideas for how best to do this?

I'd rather not film our TV with a phone, but will if it comes to that.

What you are describing is illegal and I sir will have no part of it.
for real?

in that case, I"m asking for a friend.

the reality is that our daughter was on a national news segment one day, and also on america's funniest videos. we're trying to get those two clips or shows off for our own use. not trying to steal movies or other tv shows... too much... :oldunsure:

I"m guessing you only have access to the content while you are a customer. I was jut kidding as I hope you find a way to get what you need.

Any chance you can find those episodes on demand or from youtube?

If you are willing to spend some $$$ you can buy a device that records the video. Go to Amazon and look for an HDMI Cloner. ~$100.

Id download the episodes of whatever they are from the innerwebs.
feel like we've tried finding these before, with no success.

will give it another go.

I had hoped for some kind of obvious widget that would do it for me... like chrome-cast in reverse.

I believe the trick is that your computer doesn't (usually) have the HDMI and the ability to convert the video. That is why you need something like what I posted above. It is basically an old VCR. You connect a HD or USB drive to it, play the video on the DVR/cable box, and press 'record' on the device. After the video runs on the DVR you are set!
