Beta Testers Needed for Rate My Team App (1 Viewer)

David Dodds

Administrator
We are offering 8 people a chance to get a three year FBG subscription (or add three years to any existing subscription) to help pound on our soon to be released Rate My Team application.

Here is what we will require these Beta testers to do for us:

1. Enter all of the teams in 5 different leagues (We are looking for a range of leagues so multi-flex, 2 QBs, 8 team leagues, 14 teams, etc)

2. State whether you think the application is giving an accurate assessment of the teams being reviewed.

3. Give an overall assessment of the application and where it can be improved.

and we would need all of this done by COB Friday (May 29th).

Please post in this thread why you should be considered for this. I will select the 8 people at the close of business today.

Because I posted 1st

ETA--But in all honesty, here are a few reasons why I think I could help out with this. For one, I have a couple 14 team leagues as well as 12 team leagues. Some have multiple flex options, some have standard 2 RB/3 WR and some have deeper requirements. Some are non-ppr, some are 0.5 ppr, some are 1.0 ppr, and some are varied ppr.

However, I actually enjoy doing "rate my team" type projections. In fact, I often post a "power rankings" thread in my leagues after the draft and before the start of the season to get an idea of how people's teams are perceived. I do this for fun as well as to determine value of future picks of teams so I feel it has a pretty good application. This helps me gauge how well I can evaluate a team's strengths and weaknesses and I've actually been pretty accurate overall. Last year, I correctly selected 5 of the 6 playoff teams in 3 of my leagues that I did this in.

Finally, I've actually set up a table or mini-application of my own to help out with this. I've done this by doing a rating system for each team based on each starting spot compared to the rest of the league. I've done it using different consensus rankings, particularly here, to get an idea of which teams are strongest and in which spots. I've actually found it to be somewhat accurate except in the case of major changes due to trades/WW pickups or injuries. I've done this to evaluate both starters and bench players and sharing the results with some leaguemates, they enjoyed seeing what it revealed. It took some tweaking with how I wanted to weigh each spot but turned out nicely.

So, feel free to pick me to help out if this is what you're looking for. In terms of leagues, I'm in all four of the HyperActive leagues, in one of the Backyard Brawl leagues, as well as a few others with mostly non-FBG members for some variety. A few staff such as Bloom, Tefertiller, Faletti, Wood, and Pasquino could vouch for me if needed. I'm usually not as excited about some of the contests and stuff around here nor do I post in threads similar to this in the past, but the Rate My Team application is something I'm really looking forward to seeing and, I think aside from the cool factor, could have some real usefulness in terms of determining good trading partners and future rookie picks to target as well as a tool to help improve your own team.

Oh, and because I posted 1st

In.

I think that I should be considered for a couple of reasons. First of all I have been with FBG since the beginning, meaning that I'm familiar with the FBG setup and tools. I use all the tools that FBG produces to help me organize my leagues. I also think that the biggest area that FBG has been lacking is the RMT area. I think that with proper testing this area could take off and really help out the fellow FBGer.

The last (and more crucial) reason is I currently own 6 teams. 3 dynasty teams, and 3 re-draft teams. I have 4 scoring systems (including PPR) that I can use as inputs as well as 5 different starting lineup requirements. My league sizes are either 10 or 12 teams.

I have 5 different dynasty leagues I could input this for.

All 5 are fairly similar though...all ppr. One of them is multi flex, the rest have only one. All of them are 12 team leagues.

I would, however, be able to write a good review on it for you.

Only 4 leagues here. Three 12 teamers and a 16 teamer. Three are PPR leagues and two use decimal scoring which you may be interested in. The other is a zealots league. All 4 are IDP which I know you're not evaluating. 1 is a contract. 1 is a Keeper/Contrac5t and the other is a Dynasty league with salary cap implications.

http://football6.myfantasyleague.com/2009/...=43454&O=09

USFL: 1 QB 1 RB 2 WR 1 TE & WR/TE Flex

http://football3.myfantasyleague.com/2009/...=24225&O=09 <-- You probably can't access as a guest, but scoring is similar to the one above.

UFFL: 1 QB 2 RB 2 WR 1 TE & RB/WR/TE Flex

http://football13.myfantasyleague.com/2009...=17853&O=09

Inside the 20: 1 QB 1 RB 3 WR 1 TE 2 Flex (RB/WR/TE)

http://football16.myfantasyleague.com/2009...=20970&O=09

Z58: 1 QB 2 RB 2 WR 1 TE 2 Flex (RB/WR/TE)

These are tough leagues that require full attention to be competitive. Even though it's only 4 leagues there's enough variance in scoring and lineup to probably make it of value to you.

I can also use Bloom as a reference. :hey:

Thanks!

Hello David,

I am very interested in helping out with this. I believe I'd be a great choice to help with this for several reasons. First and foremost, I can meet that deadline with ease. Secondly, I am currently employed in the web development and design arena and have been for close to ten years. I understand the importance of user acceptance testing. And frankly, I love beating on apps like this to see how much they can handle. And I'm pretty active on the board, which demonstrates a commitment to fantasy football and understanding of how a tool like this could help someone evaluate their team.

Put it all together, and this sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to help out.

Although almost exclusively a lurker I have been on many of the top FF sites (including FBG) for a number of years.

I have a background in computer engineering so I know a little about software testing.

I have been playing FF for 10+ years and am active in multiple dynasty, redraft and auction leagues.

I WANT it more!

I can meet the deadline. I am in 5 different 10 team leagues but we use the same scoring system in each. Cheers!

I'm in 5 leagues, three are 12 team, one is 16 and the other is 32. All use some or partial PPR. All use different scoring

Have plenty of time to run all of it by Friday.

I'm currently in 9 dynasty leagues, all of which were joined thru the "Looking For Leagues" forum (what did they call it before, the Dating Forum?) and comprised of mostly FBG's. 1 is an auction startup going on right now.

4 are 14 team Misfits leagues, 2 of which have heavy RB scoring, 2 which have staggered PPR of 0RB, 1WR, 2TE. You were even in Misfits HP 1 there for a year Dodd's so you know the level of competition. The rest are 12 teamers with PPR and some variant of start 1QB, 1-2RB, 2-3WR, 1 TE, 1-2 flex.

Time constraints aren't an issue as I'm obsessed with fantasy and on these boards all day long so that shows you how committed I am to my job. I would love to try my hardest to break your application.

I would be interested

I have a 16 team dynasty with 2 QB, a 24 team dynasty league, a 16 dynasty team league with 2 of each player, a 12 team league and can test a friends 16 team dynasty team for my 5th

Timing is of no issue as I dont work and can work around your schedule.

I have 5+ established keeper/dynasty leagues that I could enter roster for and feel that I could give some very good feedback on how the evaluator agrees with the typical strength of the team. I also have some very good owners in these leagues that I would be happy to solicit input from on their assesment of the tools evaluation. Some are PPR, some are .5 PPR for RB, 1 PPR for WR 1.5 PPR for TE, some are no PPR. Some start 2 Qb's& TE's, others start 1. Number of offensive starters vary from 7 to 13, most with flex spots. All scoring systems are significantly different. League size ranges from 10, 12 and 16 teams. Some are IDP but those can be ignored as I think that I read the application does not support those. Roster sizes vary from 16 to 50 (with IDP). Overall I think I can offer a wide range that would give you good feedback. I am addicted and would be happy to help out by Friday.

I am not a frequent poster but I do visit the FBG site nearly daily and appreciate the wealth of knowledge and tools here.

Hello David,

I want to be considered for the beta that you announced above for a variety of reasons that may appeal to who you are trying to target. Even though I would consider myself a "shark", I am really in tune with your normal, run-of-the-mill, fantasy player. I have just recently entered the foray of big money leagues with other players who are just as addicted as I am. For the past ten years, I have only played in local leagues or leagues with friends and family where I would be lucky to have 2 or 3 other guys in the league who are obsessed as I am. While everyone is active, not everyone has the time to analyze and pour over data and player mechanics like I do. Because of this, I like to fill this void for them by dolling out advice to the other league mates. That may sound a bit strange, but I enjoy the game a lot more when the whole league is having fun and enjoying it as well.

Because of this, I think I could give some valuable insight on what a bulk of your initial users might experience. I know what kind of information my other league mates want to hear and what information will just fly over their heads. Ultimately, this product is designed to make subscriptions more robust and to garner new subscribers. You will need to hook the people who are on the fence and this could very well do it if the information given can be accessible to all fantasy fans.

As for your requirements, it would not be hard at all for me to access five different AND unique leagues to enter their information. The second and third requirement of determining whether or not it is giving a fair assessment is where I can be a bit more versatile in giving both a sharks perspective and a casual fans perspective. I can also meet your deadline as I have a lot of downtime to do this.

Thank you and good luck!

I would be interested.

Been playing in the same redraft league since 1989 with pretty much the same guys, very little turn over. your application will confirm the consistently good (and bad owners) in our league.

main league is a 14-team redraft, scoring as follows:

6 pts (rush/rec/pass/kick return/punt return) TD

.1 pt for every 1 yds rush/rec

.1 pt for every 5 yds pass

-1 pt INT

2 pts FG, +1 pt for FG 40+ yds

1 pt extra point FG

2 pts rush/rec/pass two pt conversion

1QB, 1RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1 FLEX RB/WR/TE, 1 PK

I'm interested. I've participated in the survivor leagues for the last 3 seasons. I've won MOX dynasty leagues, a Zealots championship, and I'm the current office guru. I own a sweet Black Eyed Joe shirt that I wear to watch the Chiefs at 10am in September. I won a spot on a FBG survivor league based on my Haiku skills. It's 9am on a Tuesday and I'm on FBG's instead of working. I'm a BBQ savant.

I can contribute. Only 2 leagues

12 Team 3 Player Keeper TE required, PPR

1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex (RB/WR/TE), 1 PK, 1 Def/St

10 Team Dynasty PPR IDP

2QB, 3 RB, 4 WR, 2 TE, 1 PF, 2 DT, 2 DE, 4 LB, 3 CB, 3 S

David,

I would like to be a beta tester because:

a. I play (and win) in four different leagues with different formats and rules and thus could intelligently test the tool's feedback from different perspectives.

b. I am a web developer who has to integrate many different software components and thus understand the issues of common usage patterns, look and feel, and getting something working then evolving it to the right interface.

c. I understand that a team is a portfolio that trades off risk and reward, and not every player will be a gem.

I'm interested.

I have 11 leagues to choose from: a 10 team 2 QB league, 3 HA (multi-flex)leagues, a 14 team league, a 12 team TE-enhanced scoring league, and a lot of conventional 12 teamers.

I have plenty of time to input all of the teams, run the app, and give you accurate feedback by 5/29/09.

I would be happy to be included in the beta test.

I have 6 very different leagues I'm in, 2 redraft with a 8 team league and one with 10 teams, 4 dynasty leagues with one 10 team, two have 12 teams and one 24 team league. All of the leagues have different scoring and starting requirements except (2 dynasty teams are similar in design) Several have either 2 starting qb's or the qb's are an option for the flex position, none have a IDP base requirement.

My teams have consistantly been in the playoffs for the last several seasons and I have had several championships, so it should be easy to compare how my team grades out in the new system. Also as just a barely competent computer user I should be a good potential comparison section of your typical or maybe atypical FBG subscriber. And I seem to have time available to do it.

But mainly it sounds fun and is something I would most likely try anyway.

Hey,

I'm really excited about the potential for this tool and I'd love to get a chance to play with it before everyone else. I've used your other apps in my money leagues last year and I like the flexibility they have in customizing for different league types - I have played in PPR, IDP and 2-QB formats in the past so I'm pretty familiar with what kind of value different positions have across the board.

One thing I'm keen to check out is depth of the commentary and analysis. I know you gave us a teaser in the other thread about how guys compare to others at their position, but thats something fairly easy to look at with ADP. What I'd really be looking for is info on how my team depth is looking, particularly taking into account starters on bye weeks - do my backups have good matchups, is there any particular weakness in my schedule - that sort of thing.

Another query which I haven't seen mentioned is whether it will have the ability to input custom projections and get feedback on my team based on those.

edit: Just noticed you guys need teams from 5 different leagues.

My 5

- 12 team non-ppr 2 flex 6 point QB TDs

- 8 team non-PPR Flex 4 point QB TDs

- 12 team PPR Flex 4 point QB TDs

- 10 team non PPR 4 point QB TDs

- 10 team non PPR 4 point QB TDs

And most importantly, I'm on leave Friday.

Because I’ve beta tested web applications for Fortune 500 companies. Because I work for a firm that does software development and am well versed in the software development life cycle. Because I’ve been a member of FBG since the day you opened your doors. Because I am in multiple leagues every year with varied scoring systems, starting lineups, and league sizes. Because I’ve used every product you have ever put out and understand what you are trying to accomplish. Because the guys I work with are afraid to let me in their league because then they would have no one to ask for advice on how to run their teams. Because I’ve sat here for 10 minutes waiting for the reply window to open. Because I am a professional who will provide you with detailed feedback before your deadline. But mostly, because I think the concept of this product is incredible and want to help in anyway I can to make it successful.

I play in 2 dynasty leagues (12 and 14 team w/IDP). I play in a 12 team redraft IDP (actually 24 teams but separate drafts). I'm also in 2 10-team keeper leagues. Oh, and one more 12-team keeper league no IDP. I also run a 10-12 man local redraft based on how many people play.

Anyway, I've been on this site for a very long time. Much longer than my member number as I was just a lurker.

The key, I think, to analyzing this tool is keeping an objective position when looking at the results. It's very clear to me that in my different leagues I have strong teams and much weaker teams that need help. I don't think I am the best FFer and know that I will need additional help to continue to dominate the leagues that I've been dominant in and to help turn around my other teams. At the same time I also have a pretty decent understanding of which teams I should be looking out for so this tool should have the obvious better teams listed near the top and the obvious weaker teams near the bottom.

I think the most appealing aspect is finding out which team has been flying under the radar a bit and keeping an eye on them.

I can definitely make the deadline and would very much enjoy participating in this project. Let me know if I've been selected as I would like to begin immediately.

Thanks for your consideration.

Hi Im interested, Ive played many survivor leagues here at footballguys, Ive never finished below 5 of 16 in scoring Im very active on the forum and I think I would do a good job for you.

Im going to analyze the league with my own VBD of worst starter method as well as a few others and compare that with the results of the software, as well as something I call, "feel."

I would like to be a beta tester because:

a. I play in five different leagues that vary from 8-14 teams, redraft to keep 8 players, normal lineup vs. 2 player flex and range from a tight roster size of 14 players (5 bench players) to 27 players (IDP). The scoring systems vary considerably as well.

b. I would like to think that I have the ability to use the viewpoint of the shark as well as step back and take a look from a "rookie" standpoint as well.

c. I've been using the FBG tools and tapping into the collective knowledge database since finding the site in 2001.

d. I have some time over the next few evenings that I could handle this with ease.

e. It would help satisfy my fantasy football fix for the short term as well!

I'm interested. I should be considered because I live, eat, and sleep fantasy football. I have 15 dynasty leagues that I could use for this data collection, of which includes multiple different formats.

I have one 16 team league, which is a salary cap league. I'm sure the assessment wouldnt take into consideration the salaries involved, but it would be neat to add that in the future. Something like adding the salary cap involved and the salaries of each player, then it would say something to the effect of "You overpayed for Player X" or "You got good value on Player Y". That would be something that could be helpful for those in a salary cap league.

I'm in a few Misfits and Outlaws leagues, where Steve offers some different looks with a 14 team dynasty. I'm in 2 of his Superflex league (PPR and can start 2 QB's if wanted) and 3 of his HP leagues (WR's get 1 PPR, TE's get 2 PPR).

I'm also in a number of 12 team leagues, ranging from IDP; PPR; and standard scoring leagues.

Overall, I should be considered because I have a broad range of dynasty formats to choose from and the time needed to add all teams from 5 of those leagues into the application and critique it.

I'd be interested in beta testing this.

I play in 6 leagues a year that are all different and I would use this application. Aside from that I am a web based application developer and understand the importance of a good beta test and user interface design.

I have the time, the experiance, and several leagues under various formats. I'm also one of the few to criticize the idea when first posted, which might make whatever insight I can come up with a little more valuable.

If you select me you can just add a second account under my name. That way FBG doesn't lose out on any revenue, and I can enter a 2nd team in your annual contest.

(Still pissed at myself for not taking Pierre Thomas last year)

(Missed the final cutoff)

I would like to be considered:

I would be ranking all 5 teams -

#1 and #2 are zealots teams, non ppr, include IDP, I'm sure you're familiar with them. One of the teams is pretty solid, should be a playoff team, the other has 20 rookies on it including the first 4 picks and 9 of the first 14 picks in the rookie draft. 12 team leagues

#3 is a PPR money league that just drafted a month back, start 2-3 rb and 3-4 wr. 12 teams

#4 is a PPR league, 14 teams, start 1-2 rb and 3-4 wr.

#5 is a PPR league, 10 teams and start 2 QBs.

I am not a current subscriber and would like to be but the problems has been the wife has been watching every move made with the bank account right now, we have had some unexpected debt piling up.

If you want someone who doesn't have a lot of experience using fantasy football applications and will ask dumb questions I'm your guy.

I have over 10 years ff experience.

David,

I volunteer. I have three dynasty teams and three survivor teams from this off-season. They vary from 12 to 14 to 16 team leagues and all have variations on scoring.

The three dynasties are two in the Misfits and Outlaws leagues and one in the Hyper-Active Leagues.

I am an active participant in past volunteer FBG efforts, particularly the Player Spotlights (check with Jason about that) and can complete the assignment on Friday.

Thanks for the opportunity!

David,

I volunteer. I have four dynasty leagues, a keeper league, and 2 Survivor leagues. I will be able to put together 5 teams with different scoring systems and rule sets. Also with the dynasty league, I can talk to how the system responds to different team situations, such as Rebuilding, win now and middle of the road approach. I have teams at all three stages. Many of the other before me have posted about the same. But to the second half of your question, what about the ability to generate meaningful feedback?

I am a causal poster in the Sharkpool, but do offer some insights. Where I come to the fore is in the Mock Drafts R Us forum. I have offered up team analysis during the PDSL draft round and ran and ADP thread during the SSL draft. I also have the rest of the week off and plenty of time. I also can offer feedback on two levels. I work in computer support and have done many a beta test for many different products.

I feel I am uniquely qualified for such a beta test.

Peace

I volunteer. I have 6 dynasty leagues with drastically different starting requirements and rules. Having been at this for awhile, I have a pretty good grasp of each of the team's strengths and weaknesses and can discuss them pretty objectively.

Perhaps more importantly, I am a software developer myself and have done extensive testing in the past - so my contributions can go beyond just the evaluation of the strengths/weaknesses.

Thanks.

Tim

Lots of great entries as always. We've decided to choose 12 of you and apologize in advance for anyone that was not selected.

We have the program in somewhat of a bad spot this second debugging some issues we uncovered today. Once those issues are resolved without causing errors, we will get you guys all going. For each of the 12 selected, we will be tweaking your board group (from Members) and that will give you access to a part of the message board where you and all staffers can see. We will all be able to talk openly in there posting leagues, writeups, nuisances, etc.

Look for us to send you a message board PM around mid-day tomorrow. Here are the 12 that we selected:

Sweet.

Quick question. If I had just left it at "Because I posted 1st", would I have still made it? Just curious if I wasted my time making all that stuff up

David, I am a web developer/designer and a User Experience specialist and am on vacation this week. I am sitting at home taking care of my kids and could spare some time on this. I have provided you guys input on your apps for years. I believe it was my idea to add the checkboxes to include/exclude the experts in your expert rankings. I think I can provide you some good input.

David I would love the chance to sabotage this project by giving faulty feedback

HOpe this works... will be a great tool for the folks that usually bombard the SP with requests.
