Bettis Announces Retirement (1 Viewer)

Good for the Bus. He should give Big Ben an extra hug for saving his #### on his fumble at Indy or NONE of this would have been possible.

I like when 'good guy' players go out as Champions.

It's not official until he submits his letter to the league, and even then it's not really official. I don't believe he'll come back though.

Great career, but not the HOF that people are making him out to be.
LMAOIf he isnt first ballot HOF then there IS a problem with the voting committee.

Great RB even better person on and off the field. 13,000+ yards, TOns of TD's... carries the load for years and years and years...

First Ballot. Mark my words... to think otherwise, then you just don;t know football.

They are just sore losers trying to spoil the party.

I didn't know that the HOF elected people based off of how "good of a person they were". When did Bettis win the MVP or when did he carry a team on his back? When did he show up for a big game?He is the Palmero of football..... when was the last time he rushed for over 1,000 yards even? If you wish to put average players into the HOF based off of he was a nice guy then you need to check yourself steeler fan!

Did not average more than 4 yards per carry for a career

Only had 1 season over 1500 yards.............thats not great

He only had over 10 TDs twice in a 13 year career

Hasn't rushed for over 1000 yards since 2001

I am sure some Steelers fans will say no to this, but did anyone else think Bettis was a bit too self-congratulatory with his "they did it for me" like comments on the podium after the game? He acted like the team wanted to win the game for him. Even if that is true, let the other players say it. For him to say it came off, to me, way too arrogant. If someone like Terrell Owens had done that, he would be getting ripped for it, but since Bettis is a nice guy and the media loves him, it is okay, right? And announcing his retirement right then and there just added to it.

Thoughts?

It's the truth so he told it.

Bettis will get in and the fact he is a nice guy only makes it easier for him. The Super Bowl win even if not directly related to him will help solidify his spot in the HOF. Many good years for the STeelers despite salary cap re-shuffling all the time. Bettis gets in and you have to move beyond the stats. Aikman got in 1st ballot and his stats are not anywhere near Marino's or Moon's.

Bettis was an above average player in my opinion but I don't know that he deserves to be a first ballot HOF. He should get in but not first ballot. Maybe not even second. He is no where near as good or as important to his team as Thurman Thomas. Not even close. Bettis was hardly even a major piece of the puzzle this year. He carried the ball like 5 times a game. Give me a break. Where was his dominance when Big Ben was out hurt?

I like the "feel good" story of Bettis and the Super Bowl and going out on top and every thing but lets not get carried away. Bettis was slightly above average, nothing more.

Ok. Well then I hope they rename the Pro Hall of Fame to Pro Hall of STATS then. Much more appropriate to the stat hounds who never really watch a game, they just kinda see it and look at box scores later.Thank GOD the real Hall of Fame doesn't rely on that.

As far as Thurman. He should be in there. Hard to argue against Aikaman, Reggie, Madden... But Harry Carson? Hard for ME personally to argue that ebcause I never really watched him. I never thought he was all that BUT I am ignorant to how good he really was.
