Big Plays - Plays over 50 yards (1 Viewer)

League came out with a new rule of 5 points bonus for td's 50 yards or longer this season. I think it's crazy but I need to find players that have long plays.

I'd assume Moss, Westbrook, would be leaders but curious on other WR's

You may be able to use the data dominator to find this. I'm at work where the main FBG site is blocked so I can't confirm.

just go to espn and look at the stats. sort by yards per catch, pass or throw. that should point you in the right direction.

Actually there are surprisingly few of these long TDs in a given year. I can remember that in the '90 Barry Sanders would typically acount for >50% of the leagues plays of 50 yards or more annually.

Big Lion Homer Here... I seem to remember it differently. Barry was always getting caught from behind at the 5 yard line, then being taken out for a breather, then Schlesinger would run it in for the score. Barry was a tough one to own in FF for that... Not looking at stats but just guessing here (and i know how you all hate that) I bet that the QBs and WRs get more 50+ yard scores than RBs...

As others have mentioned, 50 yard touchdowns are few and far between. I was in a league last year that rewarded long touchdowns but 50 is a tough cutoff. I wouldn't let that be the driving force for making my picks. With that being said, I would look at guys like:Randy MossBraylon EdwardsAndre JohnsonSantonio HolmesTerrell OwensPlaxico BurressGreg JenningsSteve SmithLee Evans

Here's your mistake. :) Data Dominator does provide this info. I'm not in the business of giving away paid information for free, but for reference in 2007:

41 players had at least one 50+ yard receiving TD. One WR had 4.

13 players had at least one 50+ yard rushing TD. One RB had 3.

31 players had at least one 50+ yard passing TD. Two QB's had 5.

Moss is the WR
No.
The RB had to be Westbrook
No.
The QB's with 5 - Schaub, Roethlisberger, Brady?
One of these is correct. You should probably pony up for that subscription.
I win championships without it. I use the messageboard. This information is free somewhere and used to be on FFLIVEWIRE but I can't find it. I just was banking on someone having it. I'm sure it's in a ff magazine.

The RB that had 3 50+ TD runs also had a 46 yard TD run, and a 50+ receiving TD. And the WR who had 4 50+ plus receiving TDs also had a couple of 40+ yarders. Not surprisingly, I guess, the QB of that receiver is one of the two QBs with 5 50+ yarders.

the one guy not mentioned that historically has caught alot of long td passes is Joey Galloway ( though he may be over the hill)

you really need to re-evaluate what type of player Westbrook is..... he has good speed and quickness..but not great breakaway speed by no means. Also .. I am a subscriber but would like to guess off the top of my head who the WR is ...Lee Evans maybe ..??

Nope, at least not last year. I guessed at who I thought were the RB and the WR and guessed right in both cases on the first try. I also guessed right on one of the QBs, but I haven't decided which of the other three listed above is the correct number 2 QB.

Was the deep threat Andre Johnson maybe? I seem to remember lots of 50+ from him.

Peterson might be the running back, of course I could just look it up.

We have a bonus for this as well, every 50+ yard score is a 2 point bonus, but a 5 is huge! It happens more than you might think...

Johnson is not the WR, although it's possible he could have been one if he stayed healthy all year. Peterson is the RB. In comparatively limited carries last year, he had 4 50 yards, another 40 yarder, and a 60 yard Td reception. In leagues with 50+ bonuses, that has to be considered. I don't know that you need to be a subscriber to figure out this info. Just take a look at the game logs (or play by play) of the guys you suspect of being the guy.I just looked up who I thought was the other QB and was right there as well. In addition to the 5 50+ yarders, he also had a few 40+ yarders if your league bonuses at 40 instead of 50.

Ok, small tangent on this topic, but some info that should help with the first question. Through my sportsline league I was able to look up the 40+ yard catches, granted, not all of these are touchdowns, but it gives you an idea of the big play WRs.....

40+ Yard Catches - 2007

Randy Moss 9

Galloway 8

Greg Jennings 7

S. Holmes 6

T. Owens 6

Burress 5

A. Davis 5

R. Wayne 5

Cotchery 4

R. Curry 4

K. Curtis 4

D. Driver 4

B. Edwards 4

Fitz 4

C. Johnson 4

S. Smith 4

R. Williams 4

Roydell Williams 4

The long catches for the season for Driver, Roydell Williams, and Fitzgerald were all under 50, so you can drop them from this group I guess. Cotcherys long was 50.
