Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

Sure sounding like Juwan is going to be the next Michigan coach.

If it happens, I'm good with it. He's highly respected - as a coach - in the NBA. And you'd have to think he'd be a good recruiter, right?

Once I got up off the mat from the news, his was the first name that came to my mind

I really hope the Hausers choose Wisconsin because it'll give me at least three years of material to tease my MU grad daughter with.

Just curious because he has no experience with college recruiting as a coach.

Hope it works out. Michigan needs to stay relevant in the B1G in basketball. Beilein had a really nice program going.

Not sure why they were both looking at State. We only have one scholarship available. Wierd
I suppose if they really wanted to play for Sparty, one of them could forego a scholarship for the year they sit out.  The package deal makes it difficult; not a lot of top programs have two open slots for transfers/late commits (except Marquette of course).

IU has 2 open with the Forrester and Moore transfers this Spring :oldunsure:

Agreed.  Hoping this isn't another "Michigan Man" mistake.
Yea. I guess that’s what I’m saying. I mean how many other real good candidates did they even talk to? Seems like a bit of a lazy hire to me.   Popular with the masses for sure.

Allegedly they kicked the tires on Billy Donovan and Brad Stevens and were turned down. They interviewed Ed Cooley, LaVall Jordan, and allegedly talked to Shaka Smart - though not a formal interview. They also interviewed the two assistants - Saddhi and Yak.

All I can tell you is that people in the NBA really respect Juwan's coaching ability. There was little doubt he was going to get a head coach job there soon.

Maybe its lazy. Maybe it won't work. But its not a crazy hire at all. And Juwan has a resume that extends significantly beyond just being a Michigan Man.

So did Fred Flintstone (AKA Brady Hoke)... Just sayin'

5-year deal. Little over $2 million a season

Michigan is now the only school at the FBS level with alumni as head coach of both its football and basketball programs

Serious downgrade from Beilein.  But so is anyone who would have said yes.

Yea Beilein was awesome. But I went through the five stages of grief. And one of them was accepting that whoever we hire is going to be worse than Beilein. And ... that's just how it is.

As far as Hauser brother news, looks like Wisky is totally out. Right now it looks like Sam to UVA and Joey to MSU.

Very nice pickup for State if it comes true.

Welcome Joey Hauser to Spartan Nation. Excellent transfer pickup.

#GOGREEN
I watched a lot of the Hausers' games at Marquette.  Joey is very skilled for his size with a nice stroke and long range.  I don't think he's as polished around the rim as his brother is.  He's not a good defender or great rebounder but an extra year of conditioning and practice should help.

Hopefully he'll get his year back.  It seems like a high price to pay for a decision he made at 17.

Izzo will square him away on his defensive skills, no doubt.

I watched some tape of him and he does have s nice shot.

Hoping he does get that year back. Be nice to have him for 3 instead of 2

Why would they be eligible to not have to sit out a year?

Why would they be eligible to not have to sit out a year?
They both have to sit out next season due to the draconian NCAA slavery rules. After next year, Sam has one year of eligibility left and Joey has 2. However, Joey lost a season to injury a couple years ago, and there’s some thought that he could appeal to get that year back, giving him 3 full seasons of eligibility after next year.

Joey Hauser's redshirt season was kind of irregular.  He had ankle surgery in December of his Senior year in high school.  He had enough credits to graduate so he enrolled a semester early at Marquette to rehab with their trainers.

I'm really surprised that you thought a M press conference was a trainwreck.

I don't think anyone could have seen that coming.

I was assuming that was some kind of a dig at Michigan, and if so, I don’t really want to hear anything about athletic departments from any MSU fan for quite a while.

if not, carry on.

I was so excited when the Hoosiers got Miller. It’s like he is non-existent recruiting.
He's got 2 top-100 kids committed for 2020 already, and is still in play for 3 others in the 30-60 range I believe. I'm just hoping for better luck health-wise this season.

Oh good. The article I saw just talked about hopeful recruits and no signed people for 2020, on top of I see they are supposed to be mediocre again this year.

Need Archie to dig deep here and coach these guys up.
