Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

Not trying to take anything away from MSU but that was a horrific effort by Rutgers last night. They didn't look anything like themselves or anything like they have in a few years.

That was Eddie Jordan era basketball  (edit: coach, not player).
Agreed and I wasn’t trying to take anything away. I’ve been thoroughly impressed with Rutgers so far this season. That was an ugly game in many ways for both teams. States defense just stepped it up in the second half and that seemed to be the key to them pulling away in the end. Izzo was all over everyone not named Henry for their lack of effort most of the night.

Rutgers is going to be there all season. I like that team a lot. Especially like your coach. Good luck the rest of the way.

Bananas the turnaround the Illini having in 2nd half @ NW

Were down 15 at half. Almost turned the game off how bad they were.

45-11 run in 2nd half (up 19) with about 4 minutes to play. Kofi was unstoppable in the 2nd (He has 13 and 9 in 2nd half so far.....NW AS A TEAM (!) has 11 and 11   )

Wound up outscoring NW 53-13 in the 2nd half!!

Remarkable tale of 2 halves.

This game was 19-21 when I shut down and left my office. No need to bother watching I guess. I didn’t really trust Wisconsin’s lofty ranking, but didn’t expect this.

Cool stat at the end of the game - Michigan is the first team in college basketball history to beat 3 ranked opponents in a row by 19+ points!

umaa blown out in Minnesota
That was a rough one for sure.  Michigan basically couldn't do anything right the entire game.  It was never close.  Minnesota beat Iowa at home in December too, so I don't feel too bad about the loss.

Nice turnaround last night though with another blowout win over Maryland, 87-63.  After Hunter Dickinson lit them up inside the previous meeting, Maryland decided to double him every time the ball went into the post, and Michigan made them pay by shooting 12-24 from 3-point range.

:bag:

Without a superstar on the roster, Maryland looks absolutely lost.  Who could have foreseen that an offensive strategy consisting of "4 guys stand around watching 1 superstar" would fail miserably when there are no superstars?

Unfortunately, due to financials, I think Turgeon gets another year after this year, especially after Maryland's recent settlement with the family of Jordan McNair.

Didn't get chance to watch them early season but Jesus is/was Illinois overhyped. Watched the past 3-4 games and outside blowing out NW in 2nd half, they've been very very mediocre.

Outside Kofi they completely look overmatched physically. Their seniors absolutely suck. Desunmo has to play hero ball way too much. Adam Miller will likely be a good player in time but not a guys that's gonna win you games this year. Only shot they've got of doing anything is relentlessly pounding the ball down low to Kofi. Amazing to me how often they get away from that and Jack up contested 3s. Otherwise IMo they're a fringe top 25 team at best.

I have no idea what happened to Rutgers. They were a top 10 quality team right up until a bad foul call with about 10 mins left in the second half of the first Ohio State game and have looked like an NIT bubble team ever since.

Purdue is really damn hard to play against. They are really well coached, play good D, and just make you grind.
Agree, Purdue is a good team and their young guys will only get better over the next few months.  That said, Michigan didn’t play particularly well, yet the lead never dropped below 10 points the entire second half.  Just a ho-hum 17-point road win over a team that had won 4 straight B10 games.  I do think the game would’ve been a lot closer if Purdue hadn’t lost Stefanovic to the COVID protocol though.

Apparently, Maryland has decided the only games they'll win in conference are on the road against ranked opponents :loco:

Purdue has really surprised and turned the corner. This stretch is the best I've ever seen a purdue team play on the road, closing out games. Amazing game last night!
Another come from behind win at home.  Second half was 51 to 27....wow.

All four freshman are coming up big lately.

Nice comeback win for Michigan at Wisconsin yesterday.  You could tell Michigan was extremely rusty in the first half after not playing a game in over 3 weeks due to their athletics department shutdown due to COVID concerns.  They seemed to wake up in the second half,  played great defense, and the offense slowly started coming around as well.  Michigan finally took the lead with about 3-4 minutes left and hung on for the win.

Haven't watched much college basketball otherwise, but it must be a down year for Illinois to be ranked #6. I've watched a lot of them and not impressed. It's a 2 man show with Kofi-Dosunmu. Stop 1 of them and Illinois is done.

Team is absolute ### outside those 2. Only shot IMO of them doing much is to pound it inside to Kofi (a lot more than they do). Team rarely gets easy baskets with the lack of ball movement. Could easily see them going out in the first 2 rounds.

Their 2nd half adjustments have been great all year.

You make it sound simple but its not exactly easy to stop Kofi or Ayo.

Fantastic game in Columbus this afternoon. Both teams are really good.
Great game, with the exception of the officiating.  🤮

At one point in the 2nd half the announcers said there had been 17 lead changes and 8 ties or something like that.  I could see both teams going far in the NCAA tournament.

That was the best game I've seen this year. Besides high-level play, it had something you don't see too often these days with elite P5 programs: both teams had a bunch of upperclassmen who are really good.

Two of the best coaches in the country.  Michigan is going to be an elite program as long as Howard stays there, which I expects him to.  He really loves his job and school.

I hadn't watched OSU much this year so I wasn't sure why they were so good.

Turns out they can shoot the damn lights out and Liddell is awesome.
