Huge win for Minny. Congrats. Probably saved Tubby's job for another year.B1G this year is so good.
Are you kidding? Tubby's job was seriously in jeopardy?Huge win for Minny. Congrats. Probably saved Tubby's job for another year.
B1G this year is so good.
Having been to 4 games now this year, it has been interesting to see the fans reaction when Tubby is announced pre-game. The preseason game was a booming "Tubby, Tubby" chant. I don't remember the Northwestern game reaction, but Wisconsin was mainly just the student section chanting. Last night, only the die hards in the student section bothered to react at all (I think there was a smattering of boos, too).Huge win for Minny. Congrats. Probably saved Tubby's job for another year.B1G this year is so good.
Hopefully now the Oladipo for B1G player of the year talk will quiet down and the attention can be placed back on it's rightful owner....Trey Burke.Oladipo and Zeller looked pretty pedestrian. Dipo had some points, but its not like he dominated the game.
Dekker is the real deal. As his defense has improved, his minutes have increased a bit. This kid is going to be very, very good. Also great to see Berggren set the all time blocks record for Wisconsin. His defense is really outstanding.Huge win for the Gophers tonightSo far Bucky is taking care of business. Not a bad start for the Freshman
edited to add: Decker scored 19 on 6 shots, going 5-6 from the floor (4-5 for 3's) and 5-6 from the line...off the bench (24 minutes).
I have to think that Bo is trying to keep the kid from burning out, and plans to use him much more in March.
That was the shocker.Too many good games in a row for Watford coming into this one? IU just god-awful on the boards tonight.
Next year it's going to be difficult to replace the defensive intensity that Berggren, Bruesewitz and Evans bring every game. The Badgers always seem to find guys that fit their mold, but these three are the mold.Dekker is the real deal. As his defense has improved, his minutes have increased a bit. Of course it was. The team had imploded in the Big 10 schedule in 2010 and 2011, and this third year they go from being ranked #8 earlier to not receiving a single vote in rankings last week. It's remarkable with this talent they could go from shoe-in NCAA to maybe on the outside looking in over 5 weeks, but it is a reoccuring issue. How it happened, struggling to get to 50 points with these scorers, is tough to watch. I don't personally agree he should be let go because I remember well the failure of previous post-Clem Haskins coaches. However, no way was Tubby generally considered untouchable after losing 8 of 11 with this roster. I don't see how they can miss the NCAA now, but let's say they lose the last 3 and do miss, I think there is legit chance he would be gone. Let's face it, the team has proved it is capable of playing Duke close and beating MSU and Indiana, but (in my scenario) loses 12 games? The great wins make the losses that much more inexplicable, and that has to reflect on coaching. Are you kidding? Tubby's job was seriously in jeopardy?Huge win for Minny. Congrats. I get that they have had a tough Big Ten season - but Tubby is also the one who recruited the players to get to #8. With all due respect - its not like Minnesota is IU. It seems like he has pretty clearly increased the talent level there significantly. The Big Ten is brutal this year. Being the 6th best team is not a disgrace.Of course it was. Potential to be their best scorer since TuckerMinnesota might be 6th in the B10, but they are a top 20 team nationally IMO. The team who lost by 21 at Iowa and 26 at OSU? Minnesota seems like a box of chocolates. They are going to have to show up at a neutral site and their offense seems to get stagnant at times. If it wasn't for Eliason, IU probably pulls away during that stretch. I like Minnesota but they seem like the rest of the teams hanging around the top 25, horribly inconsistent. Their ceiling is probably higher but so is their floor apparently.Minnesota might be 6th in the B10, but they are a top 20 team nationally IMO. Yes, understood. I'll preface a 2nd time I am/was not in favor of firing Tubby, and was merely answering a perplexed question. But you can understand that untapped talent is a big part of Tubby's problem, and is what generates fan frustration. Recruiting a team capable of #8 is great. Having that talent lose 8 of 11 games, get blown out by Iowa, struggle to get to 50 points for 2 months, and not receive a single vote in ranking 5 weeks later? Not so much. Also I'll add there is more to it, as Tubby's post game comments following losses have been perceived by many as throwing players under the bus, and not taking much accountability himself. Maybe he's right, but hasn't created much sympathy for him locally.I get that they have had a tough Big Ten season - but Tubby is also the one who recruited the players to get to #8. Agree, you don't know what version of the Gophers you will get on any night. However, when the Gophers are on their game, they are a really tough match-up. They could choke and be knocked out in the first round, we have seen that version of the Gophers. We have also seen the version of Minnesota that has beaten IU, Memphis, and MSU. You bring up a good point that they have not played well on the road. I am optimistic about their chances. It kind of comes down to this, do you value big wins more than bad losses or vice versa? The team who lost by 21 at Iowa and 26 at OSU? Minnesota seems like a box of chocolates. Rodney Williams. Without hyperbole he might be the best athlete in the country. Looking forward to seeing him in the college dunk contest (no chance he doesn't get invited), assuming the Gophers don't make the Final 4.Which Gopher made that block on Oladipo's 3 pt attempt at the end? That was impressive in slo-mo.
I think you'd have to live it to understand why there is so much angst directed at Tubby right now (well, prior to last night).Yes, understood. Going into last night, weren't they 3-(some ungodly number) in February over the last three years? Fair enough. I don't follow them closely - other than as a Big Ten rival - so I didn't know. Just seemed a little strange from the outside.I think we can all agree that the Buckeyes suck, right?'BigJim® said:Yes, understood. Wow!
Just got home - holy crap!
Things are getting very interesting for the regular season championship!
Excellent analysis, but I'll tell you right now Indiana will not lose 2 out of their last 3.IU can afford one loss, but 2 brings everyone above into play.![]()
That's what I get for not watching HFS
I was afraid of it but figured UM had more than that and would at least get the W. It was a classic trap game...guys watching IU lose so the UM/MSU game was even bigger so they were looking past the hapless Lions. Poor leadership, poor effort, poor coaching. This is about as low as it can get. That said I'm pretty sure Sparty gets the Wolverines' best shot this weekend.Wow, didn't see that coming.
:fingerscrossed: Go MI! I truly don't know if I've ever said, or typed that.I'm pretty sure Sparty gets the Wolverines' best shot this weekend.

We'll see. Given the youth, I wouldn't be surprised if they came out completely flat. Never can tell with this team. It's what makes me watch almost all their games.:fingerscrossed: Go MI! I truly don't know if I've ever said, or typed that.I'm pretty sure Sparty gets the Wolverines' best shot this weekend.![]()
Awesome night with his 6 TO's for the runner up.Hopefully now the Oladipo for B1G player of the year talk will quiet down and the attention can be placed back on it's rightful owner....Trey Burke.Oladipo and Zeller looked pretty pedestrian. Dipo had some points, but its not like he dominated the game.
I don't normally get into these "let's use one game to frame the ability of player X for the year" slapfights, but it's Saturday morning and I'm already bored. Is this for real?Awesome night with his 6 TO's for the runner up.Hopefully now the Oladipo for B1G player of the year talk will quiet down and the attention can be placed back on it's rightful owner....Trey Burke.Oladipo and Zeller looked pretty pedestrian. And MSU is shooting 33% and has 15 turnovers and is only down 8.Michigan is 0-10 for 3's, getting out rebounded by 8 and are up by 4.
Make it three in a row, and this is the worst one yet. Guy is a complete liability out there. State wont go anywhere in the tourney with him as point guard.Appling's play single-handedly causes the Spartans to lose again. Need more Trice and less of Appling until he can get his crap together
But after that mysterious out of bounds call, it was fitting. Why does that not get thrown inside? Sparty gave it away.
It was back court and it was a correct call. The phantom out of bounds call was the bad one.I think MSU had to have about 50 offensive rebounds today right?? holy crap! This team plays so much better with Morgan on the floor, but they have to do something about that rebounding.ETA: And what was that call at midcourt there at the end? I was on a TV that had no sound. Did they call a back court violation??![]()
Yes. It was a tough call but probably right. It was a loose ball but McGary got possession and passed it back to Lavert whose foot was behind the line.ETA: And what was that call at midcourt there at the end? I was on a TV that had no sound. Did they call a back court violation??![]()
