Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

I think MSU had to have about 50 offensive rebounds today right?? holy crap! This team plays so much better with Morgan on the floor, but they have to do something about that rebounding.ETA: And what was that call at midcourt there at the end? I was on a TV that had no sound. Did they call a back court violation?? :lmao:
It was back court and it was a correct call. The phantom out of bounds call was the bad one.
I didn't really think it was phantom. Didn't get a good angle at it but it was the ball that was the main concern. And I'm not going to call it a bad call when nobody here had a good angle and the guy 2 feet away called it. Overall, an exciting game. Might not call it a good one with all the turnovers and poor shooting but all these top 10 games have been pretty good.

I am biased but that seals Trey Burke as POTY. What a sick stat line: 21 pts, 8 assists, 5 steals, 4 boards, 1 block and 2 TO.

Thank you Purdue and Michigan.

An Indiana win Tuesday night at home or Sunday at Michigan nets them the outright Big Ten title now.

Appling's play single-handedly causes the Spartans to lose again. Need more Trice and less of Appling until he can get his crap together
Make it three in a row, and this is the worst one yet. Guy is a complete liability out there. State wont go anywhere in the tourney with him as point guard.
And add to to that they had Harris handling the ball at the end of the game (which they shouldn't have, they should have had picks setup for Harris for a 2 or 3, and Trice handling the inbounds) shows you there was no confidence by Izzo with Appling handling the ball at the end. Adrien Payne continues to impress, guy is a beast.Burke B1G POTY.

ETA: And what was that call at midcourt there at the end? I was on a TV that had no sound. Did they call a back court violation?? :lmao:
Yes. It was a tough call but probably right. It was a loose ball but McGary got possession and passed it back to Lavert whose foot was behind the line.
It was a small TV, but it didn't look like the ball crossed the line...didn't seem close. Does it matter where a person's body is? I thought it was just location of the ball

No, if either the ball or the player is touching the back court, it is considered in the back court.

he is killing them. Just garbage, wonder what happened to trice he didnt play much in the 2nd half. Hope not another concussion.Entertaining game, but both teams played like crap at the end. OK well Umich choked the big lead away, only to see Appling choke again and a nice play by Burke, then to see Izzo call that timeout. Would have been better to just run and go without there when everyone is out of position. Also putting a missing persons out for dawson he has been just as useless as Appling lately.Neither one of these fools is going pro after this year at least.ETA just listened to Izzo's presser he said if it was in Appling's hands he owuld have let it go but he thought Payne was about to get tripled teamed. I think he kind of broke that and hey had some numbers for a fast break but I would have to re-watch again. Anyways MSU has never been good in last second shot attempts coming out of timeouts or in half court offense

Kind of hard to believe UM wins a game without making a single 3 pointer. It was ugly, but I'll take it

:o All those warm feelings inside that sparty fan had after the first go around with U of M are long gone. So is the talk of how Izzo has them peaking and primed for a deep tourney run.1-4 since the last meeting with the Wolverines? Uh oh. Poor sparty. :kicksrock:

You are in the front court when both feet and the ball are in the front court. The center court line then acts as an out of bounds line for the offensive team unless the ball is tipped by the defense.

IIRC, this ball was tipped but Levert grabbed it short of the half court line as he was on the floor, establishing possession. he then passed it to someone whose foot was on the other side of the line.

I was not arguing the call. I did not watch the play that closely or replay it. But if Levert established possession, unless the ball was touched by a defender, it was a half-court violation. I think they got it right.

OSU played a good game. Not sure they are consistent enough to make a really deep run but they could certainly knock off a top team or two.

One step closer to that 5 way tie.

IU is SOFT. They also need a 2nd consistent shooter that can run off screens. Watford gets his off of inside out. They also don't work it inside out enough to know what to do and where to be to get open to score.

Tough end to a good run for the Seniors who have gone through a lot.

NCAA tourney will be more open and less physical which helps IUs chances. But they better get it together quickly!

I'm not sure this is true. I mentioned it as an interesting factor to watch in the NCAA BBall thread, but it's going to be interesting to watch the tournament to see how the refs call the games. There seems to be a migration to a more "let them play" / physical game being called these days throughout the country. We'll see if that continues in the tourney or not.

While it would be cool... Not sure this could happen based on the games remaining. Could get a 4-way tie I think, but Wisconsin @ Michigan State tomorrow throws a wrench in the 5-way. Plus, we'd need UM to beat IU, which I can't endorse :D

We'll see how B1G teams do in the tournament. They've beaten eachother senseless and handed the Zags a #1 ranking. :hophead:

I really hope a couple B1G and Big East teams end up in Gonzaga's bracket. Tough schedule out there on the west coast, I'm sure Gonzaga is battle tested and ready.

If that happens, Gonzaga doesn't make it thru the Sweet 16. Personally I think they get bounced out regardless of who they play. Their tourney track record speaks for itself.

The last bracket I saw on espn had Michigan as the #2 in the region with Gonzaga as the #1....I'd take it  It also had OSU as the #4 in that bracket.

I would friggin' LOVE to see an all-B1G Final Four...

This is really the first year the B1G has a legitimate shot at pulling this off successfully. No other conference has been so battle tested as the top teams in the B1G have this year.

Big East is not far behind.

BE is battle tested too, though they have a larger pool of teams to pull from. I don't much care about an all B1G final four other than it'd be cool from a novelty perspective. I hope all the others lose :boxing: ;)

:goodposting: Let's not get too much like certain football conference fans...
It felt dirty rooting for Ohio last night. Gross.
There went my lofty view of you :X ;)
I hear you. I was disgusted with myself. But what could I do? We needed the Buckeyes to win.

The good thing, though, is now they have to root for M on Sunday.

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never a doubt. Trey Burke is a hero.
It's not pretty but it's a W. That is what they needed to do against Penn State but puked on their glow in the dark Adidas'. Sometimes you've got to grind out victories against weaker opponents who are scratching and clawing for every win they can get, especially in their own arena. You can't look ahead to bigger, more important matchups or you'll get busted, and U of M is susceptible to those losses because of all those freshmen who aren't proving to be all that mentally tough.Any given night in the B1G, except against Penn State which is why that loss is inexcusable.

Again, I'm a Tubby fan, but for those curious about scrutiny of Tubby:

Two games after beating then-top-ranked Indiana, the Gophers looked poised to simply tweak their game as they knocked aside the light remaining competition down the stretch.Instead, with only two games remaining in the regular season, Gophers coach Tubby Smith decided to make large-scale changes, throwing out a starting lineup that featured Julian Welch and Andre Ingram, with Andre Hollins — who went scoreless through the first 13 minutes — coming off the bench.
Result? 51 total points and a momentum halting loss to Nebraska, coming off big wins (Indiana and 33 point victory over Penn St). Just mind boggling, really, to mess with success once it was finally found. Now a win over Purdue is needed to get to finish .500 in Big Ten play.

inexcusable. Welcome to the University of Kentucky basketball, circa 2006

Nice blowout win for Sparty. Not sure how Wisc has fared so well in B1G play... they looked awful. Hope they can pick up their game going into the NCAA tourney.

Big games Sunday IU@UM and, to a lesser extent, ILL@OSU.

Teams are on and off this year, IU, U of M, Ohio, Minnesota, and yes your sparties too. It has happened to all of them.

So yeah, it looks like a weak offense with very little talent will be catching up with Bo Ryan this year. .500 if they're lucky
It looks like this is the team that showed up these past 2 games. They rely on the 3 and when they're off, they're really off. They went 0 for their last 18 against Purdue and went 4/23 against MSU. 9% is pathetic. Not to mention that they were careless with the ball and simply got out hustled and out played. When you hold MSU in the 50s on 37% shooting you like your chances. It's going to be a short post season if they don't start knocking down some shots and if Berggren doesn't start getting aggressive again in the paint. I think those two aspects need to play off each other.

I just couldn't believe the terrible shot selection and lack of any offensive plays/chemistry in the half court. This is the 4th or 5th time I've watched them play this year and it's been the same each time (although, like you said, when they make their 3's, it makes the offense "look" more efficient). Sparty didn't really play well themselves (lots of missed shots and turnovers), but damn...

That game had an "off" feel to it the whole night last night. Perhaps it was just the Wisconsin style rubbing off. Glad to see KA right the ship a bit, he had a good outting and looked less hesitant. Even though it seemed like the pace was off, Izzo was loving the effort of his guys.

Was glad to see Payne get up and hustle after that missed dunk. He and Gary have been the most consistent performers week in and week out.

Should be interesting to see what happens this last week.

OSU played a good game. Not sure they are consistent enough to make a really deep run but they could certainly knock off a top team or two. One step closer to that 5 way tie.

Kee, I'm usually with ya 100% gb, but hanging a B1G regular Season banner is the next best thing to an NCAA Championship. Especially the gauntlet that was this season. Ten years from now, it won't matter if it was a shared Championship, that banner will still be hanging in the rafters. That's what matters. If UM loses, we'll be taking the floor on Sunday playing for nothing. I guess I can root for the schlobs from A-square to win for a couple hours if it means we still have a chance at a title.Just hope we get past NW ourselves. :unsure:Don't even care about the B1G tourney. I think if we get a share of the title, we still should still get a #2 seed in the NCAA regardless of what happens in Chicago. Play the first round game and then bow out for all I care. Rest up the weekend and watch the brackets show on Sunday and prepare for the big dance.

Oh, I know... I said I couldn't endorse it, but I "hope" they win. I won't watch, though. Actually, if I could bring myself to do it, I'd put money on UM... I think they walk away with a win...
