Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

B10 had 3/8 in 2000 but Wisconsin and Purdue played each other in the G8. Then Wis played MSU in the semis in the infamous game where the halftime score was something like 17-18. That was the last time Wisconsin was in the F4, and I'm pretty sure they had to upset Arizona that year to get there.

3/8 is fantastic representation. A healthy MSU has the best chance of moving on, but Wisconsin is a tough out. I'm a Michigan fan, and love seeing them back in the Elite 8, but last night's game has

me worried. Way too many sloppy turnovers for my taste. Good thing our 3 pointers were on. Can't always count on them though. Kentucky will be a very tough out with all that young talent.

Personally I am very proud of the UM team. Losing arguably our best player very early in the season (McGary) really really hurts. Would have been a much stronger team with him in.

State played its toughest game of the yearand IMO the best team that was left in the tourney last night. Virginia is scary good. Glad to get that win. I thunk we match up well with any of the 7 teams left. Going to be fun to see how this turns out. Would love a rematch with um in the championship if we both get that far. Ums game will be very tough. Morgan will have to play the game of his career.

McGary is not their best player. He had a decent tourney last year, but that's it. He brings a lot of energy, but talent wise, he's barely above average IMO

Wolverine all my life but I'm not opposed to jumping on the State bandwagon in hoops (which, oddly, I could never bring myself to do in football). A healthy Sparty can hang with anyone, but I worry if Izzo will play Trice over Appling. The last two years have been great for U of M but they're D isn't good enough and they lack depth. If they get into foul trouble - something they have been good at avoiding most of the year - the offense will stagnant.

I still think Florida is the team to beat, but what a great showing for the B10 this year.

I think that a team starting five freshmen will have an extremely difficult time stopping Michigan's offense with only two days to prepare for it. If Michigan's bigs can stay out of foul trouble, and they shoot a decent percentage from the three-point line, I think they've got a great shot to win.

Any Big-10 teams left in the NCAA tourney?
3/8 pretty decent representation.
3/4 would be even nicer. :) Michigan State should make it. Wisconsin can make a game of it with Arizona. Then we'll see how Michigan's old men handle the kids from Kentucky. Looking forward to Michigan's freshman, Walton, against Harrison. I'm sure he is, too.
Would definitely be nice...even getting 2/4.

Going to be some fun games to watch.

Big10 showing up. Been a long time since one has cut down the nets. As long as it's not the Boilermakers I'm in.

For MSU/Izzo fans he was on Dan Patrick show last week and it was pretty awesome: Izzo on DP show

They talk basketball stuff for about 5 minutes then DP really gets him laughing. I would kill to have Izzo coach my team, love that guy.

You could at least put bait on the hook GB

Agree with this. Tennessee was getting lost on um screens all night and leaving people open. Hard to imagine five freshmen not having the same problem.

Congrats Garrett. One final four team with a chance at two more today. Impressive and you must be elated
He would have been more elated if one of the teams were Indiana.
2 more kids transferring and Vonleh probably going pro. Bounced in the sweet 16 with that team last year. Constantly getting beat in the 2nd half of games this year. Got to admit I'm looking at Crean and and getting a little nervous.

Crean has two more years. Next year will be brutal. The need some transfers, but just missed out on that kid from Temple.

I don't know that he has two full years...

Bo is pulling out all his best Bo schtick today.

Bo on team's video game room at hotel: "Pong is the last one I remember, and that was too fast for me"

"When I was at Platteville, I would have a diet pop and a cream-filled donut and then go to the game the next day. The difference now (at UW) is that I haven't had a diet pop or a cream-filled donut today. And I'm answering a lot more questions."
"In 40 years, I've never seen a check. My wife gives me $150 a month as an allowance, whether I need it or not"

Hell of an opener for Minnesota tonight; it will be interesting to see if they rise to the occasion.
Minnesota will continue to improve with its young talent and this game will help them much like MSU's solid non-conference schedule does every year. Too bad it was the first game though. Mathieu was in early foul trouble and never got in a groove, mostly because he was so outmuscled. Hollins was good with 20+. They were never in this game but it doesn't help when you can't make a free throw. The conditions in the Coast Guard hangar made it difficult for both teams. TV said it felt like 83 and humid with the doors open. Lots of condensation. Glad nobody got hurt.

Louisville looks like a title team to me. Watch out. Strong, athletic, multiple options, Tenacious D lol, experience + talented youth, never let the Gophers get comfortable, plus they showed another Top 30 player on the bench who is trying to get cleared to play since June. Pretty awesome first game for them considering MN is a decent opponent.

Mathieu and Hollins are arguably the best back-court in the BigTen. They are going to be really tough late in the season once the entire roster has had some time to gel; especially if they can find a consistent presence down low.

I'll take Walton and Levert over the Gophers backcourt any day.

:lmao: Of course you would. Any day? Mathieu is easily better than both UM guards and I could make a case that Hollins is too.

I don't really know anything about Mathieu or Hollins, but LeVert is getting some pre-season All American looks and is projected as a top 15-20 draft pick. So they are both easily better than that? That surprises me.

I just looked at 3 NBA mocks and they had Levert at 6, 17 and 10...didn't see either Gopher going in the first 2 rounds. I firmly stand by the UM backcourt.

Gopher homer here and I'd take Levert over either of the Gophers.

I had high hopes for Hollins when he burst on to the scene as a freshman, but he just hasn't delivered on his potential. He's a nice guard, don't get me wrong, but he needs a killer instinct to assert himself offensively to get him to the next level, but I don't see it enough.

Mathieu is bi-polar. He can absolutely take over games when he is aggressive, but there will be games where you wonder what he is even bringing to the table.

I didn't think the idea that Levert was the best guard in the Big10 was very controversial. The Big 10 BBall Beat writers did their preseason polls here and Levert received the 3rd most votes. There wasn't a single Gopher to get a vote.

Yeah, I may have spoken too soon. I must have watched a half dozen Gophers games last year and those guards (including the one who graduated) were awesome, but looking at their stats, maybe they aren't as top tier. Couple that with the fact that I'm anti-UM, I lessened Leverts talents :bag:

All good. I hope the Gophers have a good year, they have always been my favorite non Michigan Midwest school.
