agreed. Basically all homes games for Illinois gotta be a huge advantageIllini dominating. The national champ will either be illinois or Gonzaga unless some COVID thing stops them.
Be interesting how hard tickets will be to get and their prices. But Purdue, Michigan, Illinois, OSU fans will be a short commute.agreed. Basically all homes games for Illinois gotta be a huge advantage
In the least shocking news of the day...Being reported Hoosiers are canning Archie. What a disappointment. Next man up.
Yeah. I thought they might give him one more year. Tournament games being played in Assembly Hall this year had to be the final nail.In the least shocking news of the day...
What names are available? Pitino has resurrected his career. Hookers and blow are always a big recruiting boost.Yeah. I thought they might give him one more year. Tournament games being played in Assembly Hall this year had to be the final nail.
Was really pumped when they got Archie too.
Salt in the wound that other names that were on the short list are crushing in other spots and that Dayton last year was studly.
This one is a no-brainer and has been talked about for weeks. The news is reporting UMN and Pitino "parted ways" rather than using the word "fired", so maybe they won't have to pay his entire buyout. Pitino apparently interviewed with New Mexico this weekend so maybe UMN and Pitino negotiated a smaller buyout and he doesn't get "fired".Looks like Minnesota is getting rid of Pitino also.
I haven’t looked yet. Hopefully we can finally find someone. What names are available? Pitino has resurrected his career. Hookers and blow are always a big recruiting boost.
Crazy how good a coach he is though. He was at the top of the list I saw in the Indy paper. No John Beilein?
He was at the top of the list I saw in the Indy paper.
I was pretty meh on him, but need to look more. Felt kind of retreadish. Michigan people can weigh in on him. UM was cruising at the end of his run I remember.
Crean was peaking right when Brad Stevens was able. So wish that wasn’t happening (although Crean had a helluva a squad). We’d be set for 2 decades.
He was the highest odds in the Indy paper for what it’s worth. Eric Mussleman and Texas Tech guy were way up there too.I can't imagine a Michigan folk would have a bad thing to say about him. He's a fantastic coach - greatest coach in M basketball history. And a good not great recruiter.
If I were an IU fan, my only question would be whether JB still wants it at 68.
I'd say more that he focused on recruiting guys who would fit in his system, and preferably would stick around for a few years rather than uber-talented one-and-dones. He loves to coach kids, and everyone got significantly better each year they were here.I can't imagine a Michigan folk would have a bad thing to say about him. The bolded would be a huge departure from the past several year at IU. I can't remember the last team that didn't seem to fade in February/MarchBeilein revived the michigan program. Didn't seem to go after top 50 guys, but was outstanding at finding diamonds in the rough and developing them. Always has his teams peaking at the end. Good Xs and Os coach, but he may like his semj-retirement status.
I would hire Bob knight for a day and let him retire
1981 or 1987.The bolded would be a huge departure from the past several year at IU. I can't remember the last team that didn't seem to fade in February/March
Well that's the ideal, sure. Plenty of other good seasons that didn't end in a NC, though.1981 or 1987.
The year they fired Knight they went to the finals. That made them hire Mike Davis who wasn’t ready, which set them back IMO.1981 or 1987.
Crean had 2 years where the team was talented enough to win it all IMO.The bolded would be a huge departure from the past several year at IU. I can't remember the last team that didn't seem to fade in February/March
Definitely a good paying job there...Carr should transfer to Michigan for next season.
So you're saying there's a chance......It's possible that the Big Ten was a little overrated this year . . .
Or totally awesome I guess, particularly if Michigan loses this evening.Wow, this is embarrassing
Just four days rest? That's an eternity in basketball, especially in March. So, I'm not trying to make excuses, but I think the biggest problem with B1G 10 teams is the timing of the B1G 10 tournament. I mean, if you take Ohio State (for example) - Ohio State played four DAMN physical, DAMN difficult games in a row - Thursday 3/11, Friday 3/12, Saturday 3/13 and Sunday 3/14 all 4 in a row. Again, so four very physical, very demanding, emotional games and then on just 4 days rest they turned around and played a very fresh Oral Roberts who played their tournament final game on Tuesday March 9th. So Oral Roberts played on 10 days rest/preparation vs Ohio State's 4 days rest, it's just silly and short sighted on the B1G 10's part in my humble opinion.
Of course, I'm not at all saying that's taking ANYTHING away from ORU's win, I'm just saying the B1G 10 conference needs to smarten up and look at the long term picture and push that tournament back at LEAST one week, maybe more, in order to have their conference represented teams fresher and more competitive for the NCAA tournament, that's all.
I don't know what to think of that game, LSU is pretty good. Mich may have to score 80 to win.Or totally awesome I guess, particularly if Michigan loses this evening.
