Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

Well done Hoosiers!! I couldn’t watch which was probably better for my blood pressure.
It was a hell of a game. I thought Indiana's defense was magnificent. And it wasn't like Purdue mailed it in - they played well.

TJD is on one of the great heaters I've seen. I mean, he's been good in the past. But he's always kind of let the game come to him in the past. Now, he's taking it. Reminds me of Danny Manning in '88 or Randolph Childress for Wake in the mid-'90s.

Maryland crushed Minnesota last night. Their reward? Going to East Lansing to face the Angry Izzos coming off a loss. I'm think it's going to be something like 61-50 MSU.
Except for the fact that they are playing at the Brez and they seldom lose at home, State could pull off a close win. They aren’t playing well at all in every phase of the game right now so I think Maryland has a very very good shot at a win on the road.

Congrats. I was playing in a tournament so I was hoping to watch on delay with no spoilers, but I couldn't help and checked the score mid way through the second half. See you in Mackey in a few weeks!

Hard to know what to make of the Big Ten this year. Other than Purdue is the best team and Minnesota is the worst one.

It does seem like IU is on the upswing - loss to Maryland notwithstanding. And Rutgers is probably near the top of that jumble.

I'd also put Michigan near the bottom of the jumble - except they somehow have 7 wins. So who knows?

Wow...IU escapes from Minny.

TJD is just a monster right now. The upcoming IU | PU showdown should be a good one. This league is just a mess right now. Haven't seen Wisco slide this much in quite a while. Maryland was really impressive last night.

Boiler Up in Ann Arbor tonight. No clue how this one shakes out, but glad they've had some nice rest since Sunday.
Trayce is finally healthy again after the back issues the lingered far longer than expected earlier in the year. It's made all the difference the last 7-8 games.

Fun game. I’m looking forward to the rematch in Mackey.
For sure. I was there and it was impressive how Purdue pushed back in the 2nd half. That shows some maturity and character that bodes well for March. I will say, especially in the first half, some players got their first experience of an environment like that and they were shaken. Again, I think that's a good thing to builds toward tournament play though. I was especially impressed by Edey's post game comments when he grabbed the microphone. It didn't play out for a Purdue win, but I thought they proved a few things under duress that showed a solid foundation.

If these ******** blow another 20 point lead I’m going to freak the **** out.
That 3+ hour practice the day before the Wisky game must have gotten some guys' attention. Good to see back-to-back games with good defense.

TJD was a monster last night.
I couldn’t watch the 2nd half mostly for my blood pressure and I had to make dinner with the wife.

Great to see them finish off a game strong.

What are they saying about Race’s injury. I think this starting lineup might be better in the long run but they need his depth.
I don't think I've heard anything from the IU staff. The game announcers said they thought both Race and X would be back by the end of the season, but IDK what that was based on.
It’s crazy how little info there is in College Bball.
I’m sure HIIPPA factors in to a degree. The players would have to consent to releasing info. They did mention that X was on the court in a boot, shooting 3s before the game
Xavier would be great depth but Jalen HS is the dude now at PG and Bates and Galloway are fine at SG. They could find a rotation with Xavier I'm sure but don't mess with JHS's minutes in my view.
Xavier is much better defensively than Jordan; at least for now.
Xavier for me would be a specialist. Bring him in for energy and defense, let him go in spurts. He gets a little wild at times, JHS is so smooth in comparison. Hope he isn’t one and done.
I do think JHS getting this much trial by fire (and responding to it with growth) early might pay off in March.
Or in February...

I feel like Indiana handling Rutgers last night without much concern reaffirmed they are playing at a new level now in comparison to their struggles earlier in the season. It's very likely too late in terms of regular season standings, but does reaffirm a bit why some thought they might carry the conference outright heading into March. Casting aside all preseason speculation, Purdue has, by leaps and bounds, proven they are up for any challenge.

Sorry for the rapid fire response. I don't always get to check in as often as I would like, but I love hearing the perspective from across the conference.

Losing Mag for the season, I think, really impacts Rutgers in terms of how they go about enforcing things on the court. They have some time to sort it out, but that's a huge loss for sure.

It's going to be interesting to see how the log jam in the middle of the conference sorts itself out a bit over the next 2 weeks.

Braden Smith having a big night as Purdue is having its way with Iowa thus far.
Holy cow…Iowa pushed and fouled Purdue all night and dared the refs to call it. Unreal.

Not very happy about the troubles with the press…but it’s crazy they turned it over that much and still won by a lot. Gillis was huge again.

They definitely struggled with this. I am no basketball wiz, but the press break scheme seemed poor. Too many bodies in the backcourt. It seems to me they should have cleared a few out of there to create some more operating space.

I mentioned this here after the Maryland game. Once MD started hitting some shots, they could set their press and Purdue did not like that at all.

Every team has weaknesses and that looks to be Purdue's. Of course, no other team has Edey, either

Big game for my Illini......Rutgers at home. Need to win this game. Illinois schedule is pretty tough the rest of the way......Rutgers, at Penn st, at Indiana, Minnesota, Northwestern, at Ohio St, Michigan and at Purdue.

Yes, Rutgers is going to make anyone play extremely tough if you want to have a chance. I mean just gritty and not giving an inch on every play; they have built a great team identity in that regard. That being said, I think Illinois is very much up for that at home and if they stay as engaged they have a good chance.

Hoosiers 2 point dogs to Michigan. Road wins tough to get. Haven‘t seen one minute of Michigan this year but IU has been weak on road mostly - except for Illini game.

Been playing really well lately so cautiously optimistic. As always need another player except TJD to score. Looking at you JHS.

That's pretty surprising to me. Michigan hasn't looked very good in many games this year. Frankly, I'm shocked that they're tied for second in the big ten.

Think it’s simply being at home. IU for instance was favored against Purdue, would have bet Purdue money line pretty hard there if I was able to easily.

IU has stunk on the road as well. Barely beat Minnesota for instance. Lost to Penn St.

PSU coming to Maryland today. Terps are undefeated at home, but they better not mess around or they won't stay that way. Penn State is a PITA to play against.

Hopefully they have been working on free throws. And not launching every 3 they think is "open". Hawkins needs to only shoot when he is in rhythm off a pass, not dribbling around 6 feet past the line and then launching.

Did someone from Maryland dis someone from the BTN's mom or something? This is the 2nd week in a row where they show the league standings and MD is nowhere to be seen. As a Terps fan, I don't want them to be in the B1G either, but they are.

What the hell has happened to OSU?

Uhh ohh Big trouble for Purdue in Evanston

Purdue totally collapsed in the last 7 minutes… something like 23-5. Ooofff

Purdue had probably their worst game of the season but I thought they would get the win until they fell completely apart in the last 2 minutes. I hope this is a good lesson come tournament time.

Their Achilles heel has been exposed. Every team that gives them pressure in the backcourt has been successful. Also, the freshmen are playing like freshmen.

UM does not steal a win at Wisconsin, although they had numerous chances to do so. How do you lose to a team that didnt make a fg in the last 10 minutes of the game?

How does Nebraska blow out Rutgers on the road?

Absolutely horrendous Big Ten reffing, for the most part. At one point they went to review to see if a foul happened before or after a shot. The replay clearly showed that the foul occurred a good five seconds before the shot, and the refs still gave Wisconsin the two points and the ball out of bounds.

But Michigan is not very good.

Hoosiers at redhot Northwestern tonight. This will be a great game. IU really been shaky on road so not brimming with confidence here.

I have a bad feeling about the game this evening. Maryland BETTER shoot well from the start, or Purdue's gonna smoke 'em. Last game, the Terps were fortunate that the Boilermakers kind of slept through most of the game until MD started making shots and could set up their press.

Purdue 76, Maryland 63
