McDaniels loading up on draft picks...then using those picks to snag Tebow? Before Claussen? Niners loading up that o-line was a big coup though they gave up a 4th to move up a couple spots.

Eagles passed on Earl Thomas and still have poor safeties.

Notable names still available for Friday:

Claussen

Colt McCoy

Taylor Mays

Sergio Kindle

Roger Saffold

Also, someone should take Steve Young behind the shed. It's sad to see what happens when you take too many hits to the head. He sounds extremely mentally challenged. It's really, really sad to hear him try to talk and I don't understand why ESPN has employed this man. If they're going to hire a former Niners qb I actually think Garcia might work. He's got charisma, can form competent sentences and we might get the occasional picture of his girlfriend.

Seattle and Detroit the clear Day 1 winners. Dallas also had a great day getting huge talent that late. Should be fun tomorrow!

Rodger Saffold should be added to the notable names list IMO.

I think one of the less obvious losers of this draft are the Rams. I think MOST people had Clausen No. 2 on their QB board and I don't think in their wildest imagination did they think Clausen would be available in the 2nd round.

If you would have told them that they could take Suh in the first and then get Clausen in the 2nd, they would have done that in a heartbeat.

Denver obviously looks like they made some odd picks and gave up a lot.

Certainly like the two picks the Lions made, both should make immediate impacts and that's what you want to see out of round 1 players.

Same for Seattle, I like both of their picks.

I think Baltimore has a shot to have a solid 1st round because of their trades, just depends if they capitalize on those picks later.

I don't expect to see the Rams draft on that first pick. Someone has to move up here and get a QB.

Winners:

KC with Berry

Detroit - Suh and Best, awesome.

Losers:

Jacksonville, I don't get that one.

Denver: it's not so much Tebow, but that they already have Quinn and Orton. Is he the fill-in for Hillis?

The Eagles getting Grahm at 13 is a pretty nice start to a draft. That guy is a BEAST!

m San Francisco through Denver

What he brings: Graham doesn't have ideal height for a defensive end prospect and he doesn't have elite natural ability, but he makes of his skill set. He's a tough run-defender who can set the edge. He shows adequate range in pursuit. While he is a bit of a straight-line pass-rusher, Graham is relentless and powerful. He also does a good job of getting under offensive tackles and bending back inside. Video analysis: McShay | Edwards

How he fits: Graham gives the Eagles a versatile defender who will added needed pass rush ability and a great motor, much like Trent Cole. Juqua Parker is aging, Victor Abiamiri has become a role-playing inside sub rusher and newly-signed Darryl Tapp is not a team savior. Graham adds toughness and aggressiveness to a defense that thrives on it. Graham will also be able to take some of the pressure off of Cole as the lone pass-rushing threat.
SI.com on his senior bowl performance

Michigan defensive end Brandon Graham was named the game's Most Valuable Player after a dominant performance. Graham collected five tackles, two sacks, one tackle for loss and forced a fumble. He was omnipresent for four quarters. On his first sack, Graham beat West Virginia tackle Selvish Capers around the edge with a speed move. Later in the game, he showed his strength while bull-rushing Ciron Black of LSU. Graham was exclusively used at defensive end in practices and during the game but his position at the next level remains a question. On Monday he measured 6-foot-1 and 263 pounds during weigh-ins, measurements which neither fit the defensive end nor outside linebacker positions. Do NFL teams envision Graham in the role of Denver Broncos star Elvis Dumervil or is he a modern day version of the Colts' Dwight Freeney? His workout at the combine next month should make things a little clearer.

Raiders won... They took probably the 2nd safest pick in the draft, behind Suh.

They avoided the Ben Rothlisberger sweepstakes.

Last couple of moves has me scratchin my head, They trade for Groves and draft McClain. Looks like they are transforming to a 3-4.

If they get Cody tommorow, that will answer the defense.

Losers: Broncos.

Oh how I love the Broncos picks. McGenious!

Biggest winner: Detroit, I'm going to go out on a limb and say they have the new triplets that will rival the Cowboys, maybe not this year but 2011 season.

Biggest loser: Buffalo, I just don't get it.

I love the Lions two picks. Couldn't have scripted it any better. Also no way they paid too high a price for Best, 4th rounders are a crapshoot so moving down 25 picks in the 4th means nothing to me.

:coffee: Pretty obvious that the draftnik community was way off on Clausen. I don't think STL regrets this pick at all.

Bradford is going to be an elite pro bowl qb.

 I was really hoping Haden dropped to SF, but I'm actually pretty happy with our picks, but I think Lions take the day.

My Pats messed up.

They could have had Bryant, OL, DE, LB.

They gained picks, so what, they cant draft their 1st rounder, what makes me think they can draft in the 4th.

I don't hate the pick, I hate that they didnt pick one of the other guys!

Denver HUGE loser tonight. What an abysmal draft. Taking Thomas over Dez was idiotic. Taking Tebow was worse.

Full disclosure, Cowboy fan here. But, for value, I don't think anyone could/should be happier than Dallas. I know DET fans are sort of giddy about getting Best late. But, for what pick the Cowboys had and whom they nabbed...it's sick. I'd put them as the winners. Thanks Denver for taking the lesser receiver. Thanks Pats for giving us the pick that allowed us to take Dez Bryant.

Check back in 4-5 years...it's funny to read the winners and losers lists from 5 years ago...

I mean, any monkey could take Suh at #2, because he is a SURE THING, or about as close as it gets. The Rams, on the other hand, are rolling the dice. Could easily see Bradford out of the league 6 years from now, or starting in the Pro-Bowl...they will either be a winner or loser down the road.

Back to the Lions, I think Best, while an amazing collegiate athlete, will not last very long. As he doesn't really avoid the big hits ala Sproles/C. Johnson, and he already has one significant head injury. If it happens again in year 1, he will be thinking some bad, bad thoughts about his NFL future. But we call them a winner because they picked a guy any of us would have?

Ask again in 5 years. Better, look back 5 years and see how these 'great' drafts worked out.

How many of these guys panned out?

1 San Francisco 49ers Alex Smith Quarterback Utah

2 Miami Dolphins Ronnie Brown Running back Auburn

3 Cleveland Browns Braylon Edwards Wide Receiver Michigan

4 Chicago Bears Cedric Benson Running back Texas

5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Carnell Williams Running back Auburn

6 Tennessee Titans Adam Jones Cornerback West Virginia

7 Minnesota Vikings (from Oakland) Troy Williamson Wide Receiver South Carolina

8 Arizona Cardinals Antrel Rolle Cornerback Miami (FL)

9 Washington Redskins Carlos Rogers Cornerback Auburn

10 Detroit Lions Mike Williams Wide Receiver USC

Losers:

Rams- I still dont see Bradford as a franchise guy. He may have the talent but he couldnt stay healthy in the big 12, how is he going to survive in the NFL? They could have had Suh and Colt McCoy or even Claussen. Hell, they could have traded a 5th rounder and rolled the dice on Jason Campbell.

Buffalo- I like Spillers as much as the next guy but...they seem to have a lot of bigger holes that could be addressed.

Seattle- for taking Earl Thomas and not letting the Cowboys have him.

Winners:

Jets- No one is going to be able to throw on this team. Wow. Sexy Rexy is putting together a monster there.

Cowboys- even though I wasnt a fan of this pick, for the value, if he pans out this could be the steal of the draft.

Raiders- Got a difference maker who is a ball hawk and a QB on defense.

Seattle- for taking Earl Thomas and not letting the Eagles have him...

We get it. You know more over time. What I don't get is how people who think we don't get this don't get that we get it.

I'm pretty sure "we already have Brady Quinn and Kyle Orton" should never be used as an excuse for not drafting someone. That'd be like St. Louis passing on Sam Bradford because they already have A.J. Feeley and Keith Null. Quinn and Orton are hardly world-beaters who leave you set at the QB position for the next decade.

Wow. Could have been the worst top ten ever.

With the Packeers franchise being Rogers I am very pleased they can now defend him. Last year they started the year with Tauscher out and Clifton hurt. They had to rotate their line constantly. With Tauscher now back, Clifton healthier, Lang having experience from last year, and with Bulaga on board they will be able to practice guys at one position and not have to switch the whole line for one or even two injuries. This is huge given the defensive beasts they have to face. This should make Rogers scarier and Grant more effective. I am very pleased.

There was just no way they could expose Rogers a second time to the beating he got last year.

Evidently, both the Pats and the Cowboys wanted Alualu. I don't see the reason in saying Jacksonville reached. In fact, the only real gripe I have with the pick is that we weren't able to acquire any other picks by trading down 5-10 slots.

The GM Gene Smith is a strict BAP guy and was targeting Alualu all along, by his own admission. We heard the same moans when they 'reached' for Terrence Knighton and Derek Cox- and look how they turned out. This guy appears to be in the same mold. Gametape against USC looks awesome.

Cardinals got the best NT in the draft who many predicted would go in the Top 15.

They now will have a front 3 of Calais Campbell, Williams, Dockett for the next 5+ years.

Have to agree, and I don't like Denver or Dallas.

Bradford is going to be an elite pro bowl qb.
ya, those spread offense QBs sure do have a knack for making an impact on the NFL. superbowl, here we come! :lmao:
If there was such thing as a long term bet, I'd bet $25 that he makes the pro bowl as early as his 3rd year.

Debunking a myth

Be careful what you read these days about any draft-eligible quarterbacks. So much is speculation, and here are a few examples:

» My personal favorite: A college spread QB can't play in an NFL system. Have you noticed how much of the University of Florida passing game the New England Patriots have incorporated into their offense? NFL teams are in a lot of shotgun packages, and some of these quarterbacks who have run the "spread" will succeed at the NFL level as they meet the offenses halfway.
