He shoulda took a knee last week and it almost cost him. He should know better coaching for so long. I predict he'll make another bonehead play by going for it on 4th down near midfield again late in the game and not making it this time. That will turn the momentum over to the Broncos who should prevail. I'm neither Broncos or a Steelers fan. But rooting for the Broncos.

Yeah, taking a knee when the other team still has 3 timeouts and 1:20 on the clock would have beent he smart thing to do.

You're right. :hophead: Make them burn them and kick the field goal. Forces them to go length of the field w/no timeouts needing to score a TD.

I know it hasn't been the popular opinion, but I agree with you. I would have taken 3 straight knees--kicked the FG and made them burn their TO's and then have to get a TD to beat you.

when you are on the 2 yard line on the road, you put the game away, especially when you have a Jerome Bettis.. no question-- put the game away, and don't give that Indy offense a chance to beat you.. the fumble was a fluke-- Bettis hadn't fumbled all seasonwhat IF you kick a FG, and Indy gets a great KO return, a couple quick passes or a pass int call, and then scores and wins? Cowher would be second-guessed there as well... bottom line-- with 2 yards to go to seal the win and #36 in the backfield, you GO FOR IT!!

yeah...i dont post here very often, but i read daily...i had to comment here though:

Say what you want. But Cowher will make a bonehead move today. You probably will too.

3 well-coached games on the road. Cowher's Steelers did what no other team has ever done, beating the #1, #2, and #3 teams on the road. I don't care what happens in 2 weeks, Cowher can no longer be criticized for not being able to win a big game in the post-season.

So, how do you feel this thread worked out for you?

Because he has a different opinion than yours?Okay.
Maybe it had something to do with the moronic title and the "bold" prediction. Sure, one of the top coaches in the NFL and in NFL history is sure to make bonehead moves on a weekly basis. You can count on it. BTW, the call to run it vs the Colts was in no way a bonehead move.

PIT 34 DEN 17 FinalAhem..... :own3d:

Cowher has had a great post season. You DO NOT kneel on the ball when you have a very likely chance to put the game away. I believe the hand off to Bettis was not a great call because it got him going sideways. QB sneaks and direct dives are the way he should have gone IMO. Running a legit play was not a bonehead move by any stretch.

:goodposting: One of the reasons that I appreciate Cowher as a coach is that he *does* go for the throat. Coach to win, don't coach "not to lose."

That is why Bill Cowher is a head coach at the NFL level and ffjunk is an internet hater living in his parents basement.

The pass that Lynch should have picked off was a head-scratcher, but luck was on the Steelers side today...
the ball was short, low, and behind Lynch. Not saying he could not have caught it but it was no way an easy pass to catch.

Seriously. I didn't even get into that, but can you imagine if he did that, kicked the field goal, and then Indianapolis came down field and scored to win the game 25-24? Cowher gets crucified already for being too conservative in the playoffs - I can't even fathom the uproar if he hadn't gone for the jugular there. You do NOT give Peyton Manning and the Colts the ball back with a minute plus left on the clock and only a 6-point deficit. That's like playing Russian Roulette. You go for the win - especially when you have a back that almost never fumbles. Absolutely the right call.

Good idea. Because we all know that bad snaps/fumbles/blocks never occur on field goal attemps.

This has to rank as one of the worst posts ever. Where is the originator at now? Thank God he's not a head coach in the nfl.

looks like cowher coached a great game...
Yes he did. When I'm wrong I'll admit it. And I was. But he still has 1 game left.

What is wrong with that?

Yeah, no one has ever posted "bold" predictions here. Never. Uh uh. Nope. And I don't think top NFL coaches make bonehead moves on a weekly basis either.

What's even better is that the Steelers faced fourth & short twice inside the Denver 40 in the second half, and both times Cowher elected to run the clock out, take the delay penalty, and punt.Nice prediction.

I know it hasn't been the popular opinion, but I agree with you. I would have taken 3 straight knees--kicked the FG and made them burn their TO's and then have to get a TD to beat you.
And of course you were one of the guys defending Herm Edwards and Marty Schottenheimer last year.

I'm sorry but I just don't see how anyone in their right mind wouldn't do exactly what Cowher did in that situation. So let me get this straight--Cowher is supposed to take 3 knees and kick a fg which would give the Steelers a 6 pt lead with over a minute left? Think about this for a second. They're one yard from the endzone--one yard!!! They have one of the most sure-handed goalline running backs in the nfl. ONE YARD!!! One yard from one of the most sure-handed running backs in the nfl gives them the victory. Now lets assume they kick the field goal. I would say the odds of something going wrong on the kick (block, bad snap, etc) is about equal to the odds of Bettis fumbling in that situation. If they make the kick (best case scenario), Peyton still has a minute to engineer a game winning drive. So option A (going for the td)--best case scenario the steelers score and end the game right there. Worst case scenario (ironically what actually happened), they fumble. Option B (kicking the fg)--best case scenario they make the kick and are up by 6 with a minute to go. Worst case scenario, the kick is blocked and same situation as if Bettis fumbles the ball. It makes absolutely no sense to me at all how any coach could take 3 knees in that situation (without 20/20 hindsight of course).

Funny how the results skew people's opinions. No one in the world (well, at least VERY few people) would suggest taking a knee BEFORE the play. But after the fact, it's a different story. These people would call you an idiot for calling 'heads' if the coin comes up 'tails'.
