Bill Maher - Club Random on Youtube...White House this Sunday? (1 Viewer)

I am fully aware of topics we cannot discuss in here but I am pleased to share that much of these podcasts which you can stream on Youtube are for the most part free of the politics you hear on his other show on HBO which we obviously cannot discuss in detail but I have been a Bill Maher fan for 30 years, even when i disagree I tend to want to hear what he is saying.

This format has allowed for folks like me to get back to many of the reasons we liked Bill to being with. He's good at getting some of these artists and Hollywood types to relax, let their guard down and just talk about life and the world they tend to live in.

He's interviewed a lot of musicians including Sammy Hagar, Billy Corgan and Tommy Lee in a longer format where you tend to get more spontaneous responses to things.
He's had some boring interviews but mostly because the person opposite him was too stiff like Sebastian Maniscalco who just could not relax and be himself. He came across very rehearsed and unable to be more improvisational with Bill.

In recent weeks he interviewed Fabio which I thought I would turn off after a few minutes, ended up watching the whole thing, I never knew the guy could speak/think so well, Bill and Fabio were more similar than I would have imagined.

My focus here in on the celebrities, musicians and comedians. He does bring on columnists/writers and those might drift into something we need not discuss here but most of these are fun
Mrs and I like to have this on when we just want to unwind at night and don't want to watch a 2 hour thick heavy movie we gotta focus on.
Bill Maher openly puffs away and likes a shot or two of tequila while he interviews the folks, yeah that kinda adds to it.
His interview with Woody is hilarious as they both get high, conversation jumps all over the place.

Wondering if anyone else watches these
Cheers!

I watch them here and there. I enjoy most of them and enjoy the eclectic mix of people he has on the show. My only complaint is that Bill can take over the conversation and not let the other person speak or interrupt them. I realize it is a conversation and not an interview though so that is going to happen more.

You're correct, sometimes a little less Bill would be good but often he will fill up space because the person being interviewed isn't saying much
He had David Mamet on a couple months back, you don't see that guy sit down for long interviews very often.

Some of his podcasts bug me because he doesn't let the guest finish a thought without turning the conversation to himself. I have to just turn it off after a while. Part of me thinks he started these because he didn't get enough time to talk about himself on his TV show. On one episode, I think it was with Sandra Bernhard, he said he sleeps in a t-shirt with nothing else (waist down naked). Why would he put that out there and what kind of weirdo sleeps like this? He also likes to complain about the nature of online pornography which just makes him come across like an old guy who watches a lot of porn. The episode with Katie Couric got a little weird when he brought that up.

Well, he's likely stoned, so

Not really a fan any more. He takes himself way too seriously...so arrogant.

But the one with Bill Burr was great. Burr gave him a ton of **** which was hilarious.
I give him a lot of leeway, he's 68 and very proud he maintains a healthy weight.
I understand he's arrogant, we all fall into that category time to time
He's a comedian/entertainer and some of it's schtick but i like when he gets high and wanders with the guests.
He has an appreciation for history especially the history of TV and late night programming
Nobody's perfect

I've grown to like him. Back in the day when I was ultra conservative, I couldn't stand the guy. Now I have grown more moderate and more often than not, agree with most of his takes. He claims he has not changed over the years, and I tend to agree with that somewhat. Although now, I like how he calls out both sides. He does have his talking points though that he repeats ad nauseum, even when someone corrects him/proves him wrong. I watched him on several talk shows promoting his book and it was like listening to him on repeat.

Was never really into him to begin with and after hearing him on a few pods I listen to no real desire to give him any more of my time.

This can stay unless it gets political. And Maher is 95% political. Please keep it in the 5%. If it strays, mods will unfortunately have to delete.

He has the Hawk Tuah girl on this week. The whole thing is about as cringe as it gets. He's talking down to her the whole time while trying to relate to her. Of course he brings up porn. Hard to watch.

watched the first few minutes i'm already uncomfortable. Anyone who watches this whole video should receive some sort of prize.

man, Hailey Welch. Her brush with fame could have gone so badly, but she is just such a level-headed...........cool chick that I cannot get over it.
20 minutes in to this interview, and she was running things, asking him questions, goofing around.

She's great.

I noticed he’s gotten weirder as the show has gone on.

She seems incredibly sweet and genuine.

What are you offering?

I've tried to listen to some of these, but they just go on too long. The ones that run about 90 minutes are alright, but when they go 2 hours plus...no thanks.

It's like Bill gets high and starts rambling and losing his train of thought. I don't enjoy being sober and listening to drunk/high people try to have a conversation.

It sounds like you find his conversational style pretty frustrating! It's off-putting when a host doesn’t let guests finish their thoughts. Sharing personal details like that can feel unnecessary and a bit strange, especially when it seems to shift the focus. His comments about online porn do give off that vibe, making him come across as out of touch.

-To think that this podcast which I am a big fan of, watched many of them on YT. POTUS on the podcast, really?
You can be critical of Maher's style and ego but he has had some amazing guests you don't often see/hear

And Kid Rock brokers this interview and it's going up on Club Random from the White House?
POTUS sued Maher for like $1M and won, Maher had to pay it over defamation I believe, so to see this come full circle, I am incredibly impressed
Bill Maher IMHO has continued to keep himself relevant thru Club Random and obviously his weekly show on HBO or whatever they call it now
If he can walk into the White House for an interview after all these two have said back and forth about each other then anything is possible
This will be Maher's highest rated episode ever if it's really him speaking with Trump in the White House

I'll believe it when I see it but you would expect with this kind of press release that it's game on.

When it came i watched most episodes. Then watching him roll over people ran it's course for me. Now I hand pick the good guests. I watched the Kid Rock one. Solid episode. I actually think he is gonna sit with Trump. Maher has been pretty harsh on him. Should be interesting if it happens.

Trump sued Maher but didn't win. I believe the case was tossed.

He tore into Matt Gaetz and then after Gaetz was able to absorb his hatred or energy Maher started to back off
I understand what you're saying and I am same way, not every guest is great but he had Xzibit on a few weeks back, that would be someone I likely never watch but it was enjoyable
I thought Ms Fonda really showed her age when he interviewed her, that's about all I can say but she seemed out of touch, Henry Winkler was similar
Sometimes I don't even know who the guest is if he invites a younger podcast type on the show, then Maher likes to reciprocate and appear on some of their shows

Gaets one was brutal. Tarantino was solid. Jon Cryer was so bad. I was waiting for Michael Franzese to punch him in the face. Ha ha

Thank you for clarifying that, I didn't know.
That makes a little more sense because I wondered why Maher would agree to all this.
This could be amazing if Maher is able to ask questions that other journalists/comics will not ask or simply not have the courage to ask.
I'm also sure the POTUS wants at least an outline of what they are going to discuss, maybe I'm wrong
Can we have Kid Rock in a referee's uniform sitting in the middle?
Can Maher toke in the Oval Office?
Those last 2 questions, I think we all know the answer will be a firm no on all that.
How about Maher and Kid Rock on the roof lighting a J and shooting beer cans?

Tarantino is likely the best one he's ever done and he might have interviewed him twice or had on Tarantino and maybe another director same episode early on.
There was a very funny young comedian who did amazing Trump impersonations and had me falling off the couch
I thought the Jay Leno interview had some pull back the curtain moments, Kimmel hates him and Maher interviewed him as well.
I like to run the show on the weekends when I am doing other things and just let it play, I do similar with Joe Rogan podcasts that get re-aired on Youtube
