Black Mirror (1 Viewer)

I've watched every episode except for Waldo. based on the description and the fact everyone hates it, I've never bothered.

they're all pretty good in their own way. I'm not sure what would be my favorite...I may have to rewatch season 1 to remember.

but what I do know is Crocodile is messed up, man. darkest episode among some pretty dark ones.
The guinea pig always knows.

ETA:  I found the Waldo Moment episode more annoying than anything else really.

Waldo is worth the watch, IMO. Especially with our current administration.

Cool concept. Very innovative. Not sure how interesting the story was. It lacked a little to me. I think I ended up with 6 different endings. And by that point, what timeline we were in, etc, just got a little confusing. The movie set with the therapist was the oddest one that seemed to have no continuity.

So where is this found?

How much work does this take to watch? Really just looking to chill out and watch something on tv, don’t want to have to do too much work.  How ‘interactive’ are we talking here

Perhaps I'm just weird, but I could certainly watch Black Mirror when simply wanting to chill out.   The content can certainly be dark and make you think, but I wouldn't call it difficult or too investing.   It's not something that you would watch and have to wonder wtf just happened or need to google anything to find out perspectives on how it might be interpreted.

Stoked for this new episode.  I had no idea and will definitely be watching this weekend!

fair response.  I specifically meant the new 'choose your own adventure' movie.  sounds like it takes at least a small amount of interaction, I'm wondering how much.

Bandersnatch is a great idea, but a little confusing and too meta at the end.
Just finished it, and I have to agree.  I elected to see a bunch of the various endings, and there's an implied one I would kind of like to go back and rewatch the episode to get.  Like FGILC, I like this sort of po-mo thing, but this was a little too on the nose.  Still much better than most of what's on tv of course.

LOL my bad... I had just found out about the new episode right before responding to your post, not really knowing much about it, so I was replying about Black Mirror the series in general.

This is where I'm at.

I just spent 3 hours watching various endings. I think I get it, without spoiling it, and really enjoyed it for what it was.

After watching, I went on the Black Mirror subreddit. A CYOA 5+ hours of footage Black Mirror episode is the red meat of all red meat. There is some serious weaponized autism going down dissecting Bandersnatch like nothing I've ever seen on Reddit, which is saying a lot. Go there if you want to dive into this black hole further.

These episodes were my favorite, in order.

San Junipero
Nosedive
USS Callister
Hang the DJ
The Entire History of You
White Christmas

My rankings

1.3    "The Entire History of You"
2.4    "White Christmas"
3.1    "Nosedive"
3.2    "Playtest"
3.3    "Shut Up and Dance"
2.2    "White Bear"
4.4    "Hang the DJ"
1.2    "Fifteen Million Merits"
3.4    "San Junipero"
4.1    "USS Callister"
3.6    "Hated in the Nation"
4.3    "Crocodile"
1.1    "The National Anthem"
4.6    "Black Museum"
4.2    "Arkangel"
4.5    "Metalhead"
3.5    "Men Against Fire"
2.1    "Be Right Back"
2.3    "The Waldo Moment"

Pretty close to mine.

I wasn’t a fan of white bear, it’d be near the bottom of my list.  I also enjoyed metalhead and it’s simplicity.

I can't do a shuke-like episode-by-episode ranking, but White Bear would definitely be first on my list.  Playtest, White Christmas, The Entire History of You, Hang the DJ, and Crocodile would all be up there too.  I also like Metalhead more than most -- I've gathered that that's a polarizing episode.  It doesn't have a twist or offer any kind of special cautionary tale, but it's a cool one-off story.

Just finished Bandersnatch.

I thought it was great.  I only think there is one true ending...

Which is the ending where the game is a success, and Stefan states that the player only has an illusion of controlling the ending, and then it goes to the credits, and the writer of the Netflix show.  I got here twice, but you still have to choose "throw tea over computer" for the episode to actually end in a normal Netflix manner.

All other endings aren't actually real, because you are prompted to immediately go back and change a decision.

The "jump the shark" moment apparently happened between seasons 3 and 4. Two of the ssn 4 episodes were mediocre, the rest were terrible.
It seems Netflix took complete control after season 3. Have only watched USS Callister, but it doesn't have the same feel

My son and I watched. I thought it was really good but at the end when we were going through all endings it did lose a little bit where it felt like you were just controlling to see all the different scenes. I think we saw them all because at one point we just got the credits without the Exit to Credits button. Very entertaining and we went in with the make him go as dark as possible in most cases just to see what he’d do. We weren’t expecting the hacksaw!

White Bear was amazing. I liked a lot of them but that and White Christmas were the most gut wrenching of all. Great episodes but so dismal at the same time. I was in a real bad place (for someone without depression) at that time (close family death before last Christmas, flu running through family while driving 12+ hours both ways to funeral and company acquired and lots of unknown/layoffs/too much work). Loved the show but those episodes got me down and I had to stop watching. Finished them all once everything got back to normal and it was much easier to watch.

Pretty cool. Loved choose your adventure books as a kid. Ended up making a lot of different choices at the end but never ended up coming back to the balcony to try a different path there.

Interesting:

Netflix says there are five main endings to "Bandersnatch," but multiple variations for each possible ending, depending on what you've picked earlier. Overall, the streaming giant says, there are more than 1 trillion unique permutations.

Netflix says it took 35 days to film "Bandersnatch."

Cool concept which I liked even more as it got going but ultimately the storyline(s) didn't really grab me. Usually with Black Mirror one of the best parts is thinking about it after viewing, and I just got nothing for that this time around.

Yep same here. It was fun (although tedious). But I didn’t really get “the point” like I usually do with the other episodes. Only one I found to have meaning was the jump out the window choice.

I got through about four different endings and then it took me to the credits with no option to go back. Do I have to watch the whole thing from the beginning to get to the other endings? Because that would suck.

I believe that happens when you've seen all of the possible endings in your main path. Like, you cannot go back and not talk about your mom, so those paths are closed one you unlock those memories.

Is there a list of five digit numbers somewhere that unlocks new material (vs. using the provided "you know my number")?  There has to be other items at that point.

Loved the illusion of choice theme and ambition overall.  Black Mirror is the best.
