Blake Bortles - Official Thread (1 Viewer)

Try watching the games. He has no chance. Play-fake, turn around to see 3 guys in his face. Rinse and repeat.

As I've said all along, he's not the problem. This line is historically bad.
I'm pretty sure he is the worst QB in the league dude. Someone has to be.
Seems pretty clear it's either him or Bridgewater right now. I'd lean Bortles in that contest. I still think he's going to be fine, though.
That's fair. I'd also lean Bortles due to the turnovers.

They played quite a few snaps yesterday with 10 1st or 2nd year offensive players on the field at the same time yesterday. Against the Colts.

Hard to fathom.

Despite JAX's nice matchup on paper against the Giants, if Geno is in fact starting again I think I might give him the nod at QB2 on Monday night next week until Bortles shows a willingness to throw the ball down field. Can't really blame him for checking down. He's got immediate pressure in his face on almost every play. Kid deserves a medal for toughness, if nothing else.

Gruden just made a painful but true comment. Jacksonville released Eugene Monroe, Darl Smith, and Justin Forsett. They are now rated in the top of their positions in the NFL with the Ravens. Who's fault is that? The coach? GM? Fire them now!

Let's start with a TD first

I liken this to Troy Aikman's situation as a rookie when he was surrounded by dreadful players. His first season, 9 TDs, 18 INTs, 52% completions. But it was clear to anyone who watches football that he just needed some help. No different here. Bortles will be a stud as soon as next season.

It's amazing he's doing as well as he is today. This is the worst offensive line I've seen since the expansion Texans.

EVERY time he tries to carry out a play-action fake, there is a jailbreak in his face.

Like the rushing numbers too.

I stopped paying attention to this game when it was 21-0.

Bortles AYPA this week = 3.3. I see nothing but the same no read passes attempted to players behind the line or short and overusing roll outs. A terrible defensive unit got caught off guard with a few zone reads and blitzing so he ran. OK. You pick a game vs a terrible defense where he passes for under 200 yards and 1 TD(should have had a INT) to think I'd be quiet RN? I didn't post anything thinking you gave up :lmao:

You can't bring me down right now, non-believer. I clinched the final spot in two big-money leagues tonight by the skin of my teeth!

Rotoworld:

Blake Bortles went 20-of-39 passing for 205 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Jaguars' Week 14 loss to the Texans.
He rushed three times for 10 yards, also absorbing four sacks. Bortles has shown very little ability to complete passes at the intermediate and vertical sections this season, mainly completing his throws around the line of scrimmage. That was again the case on Sunday behind a porous offensive line that was ransacked by J.J. Watt. The Ravens' fantasy defense will be a recommended play when they face the Jaguars' offense in Week 15.

Again, I'm in a 2QB league. Like it or not, he's been very viable. He will grow by leaps and bounds next season, which is my chief concern since I own him in a dynasty.

When did we start comparing him to Bridgewater? He's also not as good as Big Ben....... right now.
Uh, same draft class?
But why Bridgewater? Why not Carr?
Well Bridgewater was considered by many to be the first QB taken till his pro day. Meanwhile Bortles was a fringe 1st round pick until the hype started building. Carr was always though of as a 2nd round guy.

So Teddy goes 32 and Blake is first taken. Seems kinda natural to compare the two

I guess. To me, Bridgewater has a clearly defined ceiling as long as Zimmer is the coach. They want to play sound defense and run the ball. The Jags seem to have a more imaginative offensive philosophy. Unfortunately, we won't see it in all its glory until they improve his protection.

Um, Vikes have Turner you know, right?I really like Blake. I wanted my Vikes to draft him. But I don't think his ceiling is any higher in Jax than Teddy's in Minnesota with Norm and Zimmer. Don't know why you think that.

I hope they build around him. He has solid NFL starter written all over him iMO.

His pick today was terrible. Simply terrible.
So what? Is he gonna get benched? He's got more than twice as many points as Peyton Manning today.
So, saying it's the team around him all the time simply isn't true. He's played bad most of the year.
I drafted Bortles as a stash play. So I've been following him off and on over the season. The only time I've gotten to see him play was his two minute drill against the Giants last week. He looked fine for a rookie. But to pretend there is talent on that offense is crazy. The OL has started 3 rookies this season. And Joeckal isn't impressive for a top pick. Their best RB is a converted QB with no idea how to block. Its not a good situation right now.

JJ Watt even joked in post game presser that they put up to three guys on him today and he still tee'd off on Bortles. Its really hard to judge Bortles based off what he is working with.

Gotta think there's a shakeup with the offensive coaching staff in the offseason. The Ol coach has been on medical leave with cancer. Don't know if they can the OC but they have to do something.

OL is filled with rookies/young players but Linder and Bowanko have graded well in PFF.

I think even the guys in this thread who don't think much of Bortles understand all of this. My original beef with Bucks was his comment, something to the effect of Bortles will be a "forgotten man" in fantasy. The fact that I start him every week pretty much makes that statement untrue. In 12-team leagues which start two QBs, not everyone can start Rodgers and Brady every week. Even though Bortles is a low-tier starter to be sure, QBs will always score more consistently than any other position. Fantasy 101.

Teddy is taking a little leap from rookie/terrible to solid his past few games. That's what you look for in rookie QBs.

The Jets' pass defense helped matters. Johnson was open by 20 yards (not hyperbole).
His last six starts, 9 TD/ 3 INT. He is not throwing for a ton of yards(300+ today), but he is playing great football for a rookie. I've been hard on Bortles, mainly for fun, but he hasn't taking the jump to not playing like a rookie. Bridgewater has as many excuses to suck right now. He's not letting it happen.

I have nothing against Teddy. Just know that JAX QBs have been sacked 13 more times than the next-closest team. And that doesn't account for the dozens of other times he's been forced to throw the ball away to save field position.

You should try watching more of the actual games then. Watt got one of his sacks on a play where he wasn't even blocked, at all. Yes, they left the sure fire DPOY unblocked. To pretend there isn't talent on that offense is what is crazy.

You watched probably the best series of Bortles season, BTW.

The offensive line is not helping Bortles grow, at all. He drops back and the pocket collapses and almost always has someone from the opposing team in it. Often times he has someone on him as soon as he completes his drop. I hoped, well expected, the line to gel and improve throughout the course of the season, but that is clearly not the case. What this has done is to hamper an already raw QB's progress. And all of this pressure has caused his mechanics to revert to previous levels. You can see it vary from play to play; one pass looks good and the next is terrible. If Bortles is ever to improve, the Jags simply are going to have to start blocking the other team.

I was one of the guys calling for him to start, so it's not like I can scream about him not being in the proper position to succeed.

Rotoworld:

Blake Bortles has been diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain, and is "questionable" for Thursday's game against the Titans.

Unless Bortles has the mildest foot sprain ever, we'd consider him more doubtful than questionable to take the field in a little over 72 hours. It's unclear when Bortles suffered the injury in Sunday's (latest) loss, as he played 69-of-69 snaps. Chad Henne will get the call for Thursday Night Football if Bortles can't go, further dulling an already unappealing matchup. Henne would be well off the DFS radar if he gets the call.

I guess Manziel is good for something

Rotoworld:

Blake Bortles - QB - Jaguars

Blake Bortles (foot) will be active for Week 16 against the Titans, and serve as the Jaguars' starting quarterback.

The word comes straight from the team. Bortles' mid-foot "sprain" is apparently more of a tweak. It's good news for curious Thursday Night Football viewers, but Bortles has been playing absolutely-brutal football. Chad Henne would probably give the Jags a better chance to win, but it's obviously not about that right now. Jax needs Bortles to continue his on-the-field development. Bortles has thrown for multiple scores in just 2-of-12 appearances, and is taking an unholy amount of sacks.
