"Blazing Saddles" (2 Viewers)

"Repeat after me: I"

"I"

"Your name"

"Your name"

"Schmucks"

"do pledge allegiance"

"do pledge allegiance"

"to Hedley Lamarr"

"to Hedy Lamarr"

"That's Hedley!"

"That's Hedley!"

Funny thing up until his death people still yelled Hedy at him when he walked down the street. You know that's a hell of a role when that happens.

"You will be risking your lives, whilst I will be risking an almost-certain Academy Award nomination for the Best Supporting Actor. "

"Can't you see that this is the last act of a desperate man?"

"We don't care if it's the first act of Henry the 5th".

"Never mind that s**t. There's MONGO!!"

I better go check out this Mongo character. [reaches for his gun}

Oh no, don't do that. If you shoot him, you'll just make him mad.

Reverend Johnson: Order, order. #######it, I said "order".

Howard Johnson: Y'know, Nietzsche says: "Out of chaos comes order."

Olson Johnson: Oh, blow it out your ###, Howard.

What are the odds that if Blazing Saddles were released today for the first time that it would be well received?

Back in '90 I showed this in my dorm room to a bunch of people who had never seen it. Most of them got offended and left within the first 10 minutes. They didn't seem to care about the underlying social commentary or that Richard Pryor was one of the writers.

It's too brutually racist for a lot of people to watch, myself included.

:goodposting: The black guy is the hero. And all the prejudiced people are either converted or beaten.

:( I have the worst shtick detection skills in the history of the FFA.

I don't get this movie. I see how it was funny back in the day, and influenced a lot of comedy for years to come. But nowadays, it's just not that funny.

I brought the name of this movie up tonight among soccer friends, two black guys seemed visibly offended by it. I realize the movie is not PC and would not fly in today's society. But has it become among the black community to shun it for what it portrays?

One of them said he cancelled his Netflix account after he streamed it. It reminded me of my parents for cancelling their subscription to the Boston Globe (newspaper) when a political cartoon made fun of the Pope.

Don't know if it makes a difference but Richard Pryor was one of the writers.

Damn, would have been interesting if I had asked him what his thoughts were of Richard Pryor.
