Boldin (1 Viewer)

Just read this on Mike Sando's NFC West blog at ESPN.

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfcwest

In fairness to all, we need to hear Boldin's explanation before we convict him of insubordination or anything else. Beyond that, Boldin frankly isn't big enough to tarnish this experience for the Cardinals. This coaching staff has proven no individual is bigger than the team. Ask Edgerrin James. Boldin has a long record of professionalism in how he approaches his work. Let's hear from him before we make statements about his behavior tarnishing the moment.
Couldn't have put it better myself. Lots of over-reactions in this thread.

Haley called a HORRIBLE game in the second half and almost cost us the game...Warner yelled at him, Boldin yelled at him, Fitz was yelling at him while on the field. The local media has been getting on Boldin, but any true Cards fan knows Boldin was the heart and soul of this team for several years and deserved to be on the field.I've bumped down Haley quite a bit after yesterday despite his impressive playcalling in the first half. Early rumor is Boldin for T. Suggs. Boldin will restructure and go to the Ravens where he will be the star...Suggs comes back home where he has been very vocal about wanting to play for the Cards...Ravens will have to franchise him this year...makes sense to me.GO CARDS!!
Isn't T. Suggs an unrestricted FA after this season? No need to give up Boldin for him. Just sign him and trade Boldin to somebody else for a couple draft picks. I LOVE Q and hope we can keep him, but the reality is that he no longer wants to be in AZ and we need to pay Dockett, Dansby, and A-Dub before we even sit down with Anquon.
Both teams are still playing that the basis of this rumor has to be someone in the media or a fan dreaming about what could happen rather than an sources citing actual discussions between the franchises front offices. It has to be based on so little fact that "rumor" is actually overstating it.

LHUCKS, do you ever know what you are talking about? They scored 32 against one of the better defenses in the league. Jimmie Johnson, one of the best DCs in the league, made some adjustments that slowed them down for a while. Then Haley made counter-adjustments that resulted in a 7+ minute game-winning TD drive.

Trey Wingo interviewed Boldin on ESPN a bit ago, and Boldin said he ducked out right after the game because he didn't want the spat between he and the OC to overshadow the Cardinals making the Super Bowl and becoming the big story. He also said he has no problem with Haley, but just wanted to know why he was taken out of the game at that particular point.

Accurate.Give Boldin some credit.

It looked to me like Haley keep saying,"Go ahead," as if challenging Boldin to make good on some threat he made during his outburst. Boldin's motivation could have been jealousy, but he never had a history of this kind of behavior in the past when Fitz out produced him.

More likely it was the heat of the moment. The common denominator of all great athletes is their competitive drive. It is what separates them from us. With it sometimes comes incidents like Boldin's outburst yesterday.

I believe most front office people understand this. I doubt it hurts Boldin's value at all.
That's what I thought it was also. , btw.

Im glad Kurt Warner also ducked out at the end of the game after HIS spat with the OC....oh wait...he didnt. Dude is not happy in AZ due to money, respect or whatever. I think he is straight up baller but he was dead wrong imo.

I love Boldin. The guy is a stud and is the emotional leader of the team. I have his jersey and wear it to every home game (homer alert). I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. He's earned it with what he has brought to the team for the past six years.

The leaving the game early bit does concern me. But I'd like to hear what the coaches have to say about it before we crucify him. I would guess the arguing on the sidelines happens WAY more than we fans realize, so that doesn't bug me too much.

It will be interesting to see what next year brings. I think people look at the games we played without Boldin and realize that we did pretty well and think we can continue to do it without him. I think that is a mistake. He brings so much leadership and toughness to the team, and those are things that are very hard to replace. Hopefully they'll get things worked out in the off season.

And for those saying Boldin isn't in the class of Fitz and Johnson, check out the stats. Through week 12 of this season, the season Boldin was "disgruntled," here are his stats compared to Fitz's:

Anquan Boldin Games: 9 Rec: 73 Yards: 879 TD: 11

Larry Fitzgerald Games: 11 Rec: 72 Yards: 1013 TD: 6

So in 2 LESS games, Boldin had one more reception and five more TDs. I'd say their classes are pretty close...

What can we offer from the Eagles roster? Picks? We have two first rounders.
Didn't we already go the superstar, selfish, scream-at-your-coaches, me, me, me-route? I'd much rather make a run at TJ Housh or someone else. Braylon Edwards even.

as a Giants fan, I'll take Boldin in a NY minute..I hope they go after him or TJ or Ocho Cinco.

but getting back to the Boldin thing - he'll be fine. Simms got yelled at by Parcells on nat'l tv - Parcells looked

ticked off beyond belief, I think he said 'sit the F down Phil' or something to that regard..but Simms seemed to do ok afterwards.

I'm sure Warner, being the veteran that he is, will work with Boldin and teammates to sort things out and smooth things over.

and in two weeks I'd expect Boldin to be playing like a man possessed..OH, and his agent is likely to whisper in his ear about how he can expunge the Championship Game debacle from the record books with a great performance in the SB - and how it will also do wonders for his wallet ( next season with a new contract either in Az or elsewhere) if he gets

SB MVP honors!

I don't think any owner/coach/GM who saw Boldin's childish outburst/team-shunning questions his performance on the field. A 100 yard, 2 TD game isn't going to erase the many character issues that have now surfaced regarding Boldin.

Why does Warner get a free pass for also yelling at his OC earlier in the game? Every NFL player that has commeneted on it says it happens all the time in the heat of battle. Considering Boldin has never had teh reputation of being a "cancer" why is he so villified for one outburst. Tempers flare sometimes. The man only wanted to be in the game. Perhpas a little selfish but understandable from the viewpoint that he's a competitor that wants to help his team after missing the prior game.

This is why agents get paid. I am sure Boldin called his agent right away.Boldin "This is BS..I am out of here..Fitz is getting all the glory..I get no respect"Agent " Relax..you are going to the SuperBowl..say that you did not want to overshadow the celebration and that is why you left. Then we will get you more cash next year"Boldin " Ok..I guess you are right...should I grow my hair like Larrys?"

You've never been pissed off in you life and handled the situation poorly? In the past I got into a heated discussion once with a fellow attorney in my office that led to shouts and threats. Later that day I went in and cleared the air. It happens. Stop it with the holier than thou attitude.

We did and it got us to the Super Bowl and McNabb had one of his best years. Except for this one incident I don't ever remember Boldin have any TO-like problems. Dude is a beast, would you rather have Greg Lewis dropping balls in next years's NFCCG again next year?

The first couple years of his career, I don't remember seeing T.O. have any T.O.-like problems, either. This was the first we've seen this from Boldin. He's still young. Also, this is far different than the words Haley had with Warner. For starters, I'm sure Warner was having a disput about playcalling and/or offensive strategy. He wasn't being selfish. Secondly, Warner didn't have a threatening look on his face. For whatever reason, Haley kept saying, "Go ahead. Go ahead" Boldin either threatened to leave the sideline or physically do something to Haley.

Many? Seriously? Boldin has been quite the model of professional up to this point IMO.You're trying way too hard to trash the guy.

Got it. Warner was yelling at the OC in a "nice" and "unselfish" way.

Except in one key area: In five years, Fitz has missed three games, while Boldin has missed 16. Think about it - 16 games is an entire season.Boldin may produce when he shows up, but he can't expect to get paid full time wages for only part time production. It doesn't work that way. He's angry because he wants money, but he's the guy missing games. Now he's screaming at coaches during games and not celebrating what should have been he's happiest moment as a pro (if he had any team considerations in mind).I dig Boldin, always have, but looking at the guy's body type, his injury history, and recent attitude issues, he's starting to remind me of David Boston.

Warner didn't ditch the team after the win, though. Boldin's leaving immediately after the game is a much bigger deal than him yelling at the OC. People can spin it however they want but it speaks volumes about his priorities in choosing to fume over his personal situation in lieu of celebrating the team's success.

Look what Breaston did when Boldin was out. Lining up across from Fitz has some advantages.

Like I said sometimes people do things they regret in the heat of the moment when pissed off. Leaving after the game does show some selfish behavior and was a poor choice, but who does it really hurt?I'm sure he regrets going that route - of not I will say he should. It doesn't make him a bad seed necessarily, just human.

I still say that those villifying him for yelling at the OC on the sidelines while giving a free pass to Warner for doing that exact same thing (of course he was doing it in a kind way :goodposting: ) are disingenous at best and full of #@!% blowhards at worst.

How did Boldin do before Fitz got to Arizona?

Did you even watch the two videos? Warner wouldn't have freightened a child woith the way he confronted Haley. To me, it seemed like he was saying, "Let's not stop being agressive" or "Let's not lay down for these guys" or something along those lines. He certainly wasn't saying that he wanted more playoing time or that he was going to deck Haley. One instance was a quarterback disagreeing with his coach about how to best win the game for his team. The other was a me-guy distracting the OC when his team was still on offense and the coach was trying to do his job in an effort to make it be about himself.

Also, Warner still wanted to be with his team and celebrate the victory, while Boldin blew off his team because he was still upset about his own role in the game.

You can try to dress it up all pretty, but Boldin's actions on Sunday are disgusting and reveal an entire side of him that the public, as well as other teams, knew nothing about.

Oh come on. That's just silly. Boldin caught 101 passes his rookie season and was selected to the Pro Bowl as a rookie. This was before Fitz. I'm at a loss of where all the Boldin hate is coming from. The guy is an absolute stud.

I don't think anyone is questioning his ability as a wide receiver. He is one of the top WRs in the league, when healthy, and I think everyone knows that. His attitude, following his actions on Sunday, is what it coming into question now.

You can spin it any way you want to fit your agenda, you can even make up the "facts". Link to Boldin saying he wanted to "deck" Haley? He didn't even move towards him in a threatening manner, just yelled and moved back. No one even held him back. Maybe you just find Boldin more frightening for some reason. So a QB showing up his "boss" while screaming at him (in a nice way of course) how to do his job isn't selfish.

Getting pissed off at not being in the game at crucnh time when you know that you can help your team is?

Both have elements of selfishness and lack of professionalism imo. Both are also understandbale in the heat of the moment imo.

I have said leaving right after the game was childish and disappointing, but Boldin punished no one but himself. I'lll make up a fact and say I'm sure he regrets it.

Once again are you going to claim that you never lost your temper and acted foolishly. Why is Boldin held to a higher standard than other humans. The guys has been all class througout his career, yet one bad day now makes him a punk in your eyes?

Maybe you should ask yourself what your agenda is here.

no time to read this whole thread...............are there links to the Boldin OC confrontation?

I'd like to see it.

Thanks

Just heard Todd Haley interviewed on local radio. For those of you who are making all these assumptions and crucifying Boldin and don't know who Todd Haley is, he is the Cards OC. Haley was very complimentary of Boldin, saying he is the toughest dude he's coached. He talked about Boldin coming back from the hit against the Jets when most players wouldn't have played for the entire season. The gist of things was that they thought Boldin was still a little slowed by his hammy, and they called a play where Breaston was in instead of Boldin. Boldin is a competitor and wanted to be on the field in that situation and things blew up a bit on the sidelines.

Haley downplayed the situation, as would be expected from the coach, but hearing him talk about it made me feel better about the situation. All it will take is for Boldin to catch a couple TD's in the SB and everyone will be talking again about how great he is.

and in two weeks I'd expect Boldin to be playing like a man possessed..OH, and his agent is likely to whisper in his ear about how he can expunge the Championship Game debacle from the record books with a great performance in the SB - and how it will also do wonders for his wallet ( next season with a new contract either in Az or elsewhere) if he gets

SB MVP honors!
I don't think any owner/coach/GM who saw Boldin's childish outburst/team-shunning questions his performance on the field. A 100 yard, 2 TD game isn't going to erase the many character issues that have now surfaced regarding Boldin.
You've never been pissed off in you life and handled the situation poorly? In the past I got into a heated discussion once with a fellow attorney in my office that led to shouts and threats. Later that day I went in and cleared the air. It happens. Stop it with the holier than thou attitude.
Nope...I've never threatened anyone in the office. Never threatened my boss.

Boldin is a old school football player and damn good....a top receiver.

However, the question is will Boldin be at Larry Fitzgerald's Hall of Fame ceremony?

Really? He downplayed it? With the Super Bowl coming up? Shocking.

Didn't we already go the superstar, selfish, scream-at-your-coaches, me, me, me-route? I'd much rather make a run at TJ Housh or someone else. Braylon Edwards even.
Got it. Warner was yelling at the OC in a "nice" and "unselfish" way.

There are no links to Boldin saying he wanted to deck Haley. I doon't know if he threatened to deck him or if he threatened to walk off teh field. All I know for sure is that after Boldin was finished yelling, Haley screamed at him several times.."Go ahead. Go ahead" What are you suggesting he was replying to?And if you really want to pretend the Warner 'confrontation' and the one with Boldin are equal, I'm pretty sure a prospective team would consider Warner's long track record as a great teammate and a born-again christian over what is known (or unknown) about Boldin.

And yes, Boldin's leaving immediately after the game was childish and disappointing. I finally agree with you on something.

As for my agenda, as an Eagle fan who knows my tream is in need of a big-time receiver, I went from wanting Boldin to rather having TJ Housh or Braylon Edwards. Would I still want Boldin over Kevin Curtis? Yes (although his T.O.-in-the-making routine has me worried). But he is no longer tops on my wants list.

Do you know anything about the Cardinals at all? And what the hell does being a born-again Christian have to do with anything at all?

I think you're losing it a little here.

What does Warner being a born-again christian have to do with anything? Yep I get it, Warner ask God 'Can I please win, so God makes it happen' Be real, Warner acted no better than Boldin did, Boldin played hurt and wanted to be in there when the game was on the line. If Warner hits a wide open Boldin the game wouldn't have been close. So please stop that Warner is born-again christian and is therefor better than everyone else. Thanks

Lot of people with short memories around here. Boldin has shown he is all heart several times over.

I don't think he had intentions of a physical confrontation but there was a point where Boldin stepped closer to Haley and a player (93 I think) stuck his arm out to hold Boldin back.

You may want to look into his history a little.

You are correct there was a cursory "hold back". A player grabbed his arm a little and took him away, but Boldin could have broken away if he intended to deck Haley. The point is Boldin didn't really go after Haley like he wanted to "deck" him or in a scary rage as certain people have suggested in order to create the illusion that Boldin is a punk.

Any dude who plays with a broken face then goes right back over the middle can play for me any day.

As a Cardinal fan , I love Boldin, he goes hard every play, is a monster when he gets the ball in his hands and is a pretty solid down field blocker. He can turn a WR screen from a 5 yard play into a 60 yard game breaker. But he is very emotional on the field, which is good and bad at times. No doubt he has been the heart of the team for a while, he'll run you over just to gain the extra 4 yards and and he'll scream about it and chest bump his teammates.

BUT, as a Cardinal season ticket holder, sitting two rows up directly behind the offensive part of the bench, I can see/hear it first hand that Boldin's emotion sometimes gets the best of him on the sideline. If he feels he isn't getting the ball enough, or thinks the offense isn't performing like it should, he'll let the coaches know about it. And while I respect him to the fullest, the coaches understand that he is a playmaker and need to get the ball, they do not need him in their ear about it. I understand the fact that he is just a competitor and leader and gets caught in the moment at times, and in no way am I over-reacting and even closely comparing him to some of the childish WR's in the league, but I do think that he could handle it better at times. Not saying he does it very often, but it does happen and just because the stage was bigger this past week, it got blown up bigger than usual.

Regardless, he is a playmaker and I think he will be a vital part of the offense in the Superbowl. Maybe they use his (former Florida St. QB) arm in a trick play. Who knows. But I highly doubt that Pitt lets Fitz run wild like the top NFC teams have done, so Boldin and Breaston will obviously be factors.

And I know that this isn't going out on a limb at all, but I highly doubt that anything will work out between Boldin and the team to keep him here next year. It just doesn't look like it will work. Breaston has stepped up, and I understand he is not equal to Boldin's ability, but could be capable to fill in. And Boldin's relationship with the team is not getting better.
