Bored Upgrade - discussion (1 Viewer)

Really just makes things much better for the provider since they aren't customizing their look across multiple OS and screen sizes.
Don't mind the "one size fits all" approach ... just strip it down. Don't need bells and whistles at all ... but I'm in the stark minority there, I realize.

Different subject: editing text in reply boxes used to be simple and reliable ... now sometimes you can click buttons to bold/italicize and sometimes you can backspace to delete text ... and sometimes you can't

I don't think that's the minority at all when it comes to mobile viewing.

It "gives us" the same viewing experience whether on a desktop with a large monitor or our smartphone. Unfortunately a lot of people don't want that because they don't want to waste screen space with things like large colorful avatars on their phones (and the time/battery to load them).

There are some boards that I always use the Mobile skin to view, even on a desktop/laptop because the clean look is a big improvement over the normal skin. Oh well.

Yeah, I'm a minimalist, too.  It should be about the conversation.  But in the meantime...1453338686503.jpeg

Thanks. If this writes to my computer as it appears to, it may not be available to me on the work laptop. Have to check.

So ... I have to join invisionpower.com, huh?

The pics are actually not much of an issue at all, Old Smiley. Especially if there were an option to go graphics-free or graphics-limited.

Issues are more with spacing, the Stumble-On, Digg, etc. stuff at the bottom of the pages being too big, and some other look-and-feel things on the Blackberry. Plus whatever was going on in the reply box (was on laptop for that).

Thing is, say there's an opt out for pictures.  I still think you'll have entire conversations happening in memes and those who've opted out will not see them.  I mainly hang out at metafilter and that site is pure text.

edit: I used to get weird stuff in the reply box periodically with the old site, too.  Junk from other sites i'd visited would just *be* there.  Like, boink, there's the ESPN page in there.

a bunch of friends of mine just got emails welcoming them to the Footballguys community.. is this Joe's method of increasing the active users to bump the value of his company for Otis?

Wow, weird. Never had those kinds of issues with the previous board upgrade. I do remember the previous-upgrade reply window working poorly for about a month ... then it all the sudden got bug-free (for me, anyway) and smooth. Dunno.

Another message board I frequent does it so that if you have the option to not show pics checked in your profile, the pics simply turn into clickable hyperlinks.  It's really slick and seems to please everyone.

TOTALLY not seeing how multiple quotes are supposed to be followed.

You're only 16.  You don't have a rep yet.

So how do I recreate the "My content" thing I used to just check in on a few threads? I tried to use the "unread content search" and then update it to only topics I follow, but every time I hit "update" it just reverts back to everything unread on the site...

Re - multiquote:

Huh ... there's a board function for doing that? I'd always done it manually, and didn't mind at all. But cool.

you can filter using the "Sort By" dropdown at the top right of the list of topics. Click "Custom", then choose "Topics I Posted in" or "Topics I Started" from the dropdown.
