So I'm blissfully ignorant of all this. I see BREXIT and the occasional headline about a Tory bad touching dudes but really pay little attention and make little effort to understand British politics. Can somebody bottomline on what's going on and the impact on world politics with a sidebar on how it relates to the US? TIA

He was born in NYC and spent most of his first 5 years in the USA Just imagine if he could claim US Citizenship? He could be the first ever UK- US leader. That’s pretty close to world king I’d say.

Johnson had the same relationship with the truth that Trump has, but is actually a politician through and through and understands policy in a way Trump had no interest in doing.

Like another country that shall remain nameless, Johnson was an incompetent liar with an ego the size of a house. Conventions, tradition and rules be damned it was his way. 

Johnson was at first a newspaper and media man who lied or exaggerated what Tony Blair Or Gordon Brown were doing as Prime Minsters. He then became mayor of London where his buffoonery wasnt that harmful. Many saw him as charming, but the facade started to fade. Entering westminster he was fast tracked to senior cabinet positions and seen as a future leader. Why is anyones guess, as he never was competent in anything he did. He was a running joke. 

His biggest damage was the Brexit campaign where his blatant lies fooled enough people to pull the country out of Europe. The economic ramifications of that are only beginning to be felt, but essentially they voted to provide economic sanctions on themselves. Much was made of independence, but based on lies about how much money was going to europe without mentioning the money and skills that came back. Several europe countries have proven that europes bark is worse than its bite. You can run your country as you see fit, if europe questions something a country does you raise two fingers and tell them to go away. Europe benefitted more from the UK being in that out, now europe has all the leverage and can destroy britain with impunity economically. 

Johnson didnt put his name up when David Cameron quit, leaving Teresa May with the awful mess of trying to neogiating a brexit strategy.she got pilloried and mocked as the situation was hopeless. Once she was topple he stood up...just in time to win a massive majority from a disorganized labour opposition who had a 70+ socialist hippy in charge. Soon after covid happened and Johnson had the brilliant strategy of hugging covid patients with inevitable results of almost dying himself. While people in britain were locked down, unable to go to funerals of wifves, husbands, fathers and mothers, Johnson and his torys had over a dozen “parties”. These were denied for over a year until proof and police charges were brought. Onky sitting btitish prime minister charged and prosecuted with a crime.

the bumbling and stumbling continued unabated. He was shameless, lying and distorting almost evrything. Grim economic news was presented as liberation. High scale corruption and theft of the treasury continued, while the poor had their taxes increased. Cabinet minister after cabinent minister resigned until the Chancellor and Health secretary were followed by 60 others in the administration. He had no choice months ago after narrowly winning a vote within his party. Thatcher and May resigned with much bigger winning margins. Now he attempts to hold on as interim prime mister while the blood flows in internal tory fighting to be the new leader. A new election cant be held for 2 years unless the hew leader goes to the polls. 

Meanwhile scotland desperately wants to be in europe and will vote for the second time, this time expected to win decisively. Johnson will almost exclusively cause the downfall of the UK with Scotland maybe even Northern Ireland wanting out.

Eh, Boris did far more wrong than Newsom. Covid parties were some of the problems, but the cover up and lying were worse.  

And I have no love for Newsom.
