Taking Mrs. Smails to Boston in late September for a 4 day weekend. I've been several times mostly for work but haven't done a pleasure trip there. We'll do all the historical stuff + North End dining, Mike's etc. Also Steelers are in town that Sunday so will try to score some tickets to the Patriots game. If my fellow FBG's have any great recommendations for activities, food, drink, culture etc that would be great! Staying at the Renaissance in Seaport.
 
If you do the trail after Bunker Hill you can walk over to the Old ships. I recommend taking the water taxi through the harbor back to the aquarium. I guess that depends on where you're staying though
 
We were in Boston last summer and in little Italy there was an outdoor brick oven that I had the best pizza of my whole life. I did’nt catch the name though. We walked a good bit of the Freedom Trail and got to see a few places from Fallout. We absolutely loved Boston.

We were there last summer. Caught a game at Fenway, which I would recommend if it works out for you. If not do the stadium tour.

Freedom trail was very cool, but you pretty much need to block off an entire day for it.

If you like beer I recommend Trillium. Their Fort Point location had $1 oysters on happy hour. They also had a beer garden on the greenway in downtown that was a nice place to grab a quick beer.

We got week passes for the public transit that were like $20 each for unlimited use and that came in really handy. It's a really walkable city and being able to take the T for larger distances was great.

The aquarium was mediocre, but it may just be that I'm spoiled with Monterey Bay.

My family really liked the Duck Boat tour.

Overall we spent the better part of a week just walking around all areas of the city and exploring. We'd stop into restaurants and grab appetizers and graze our way through town.

Wife and I are doing 4 days in NYC and 3 days in Boston in a few weeks. 25th anniversary trip, just the 2 of us.

It'll be my 3rd trip to NYC but first time in Boston.

Pizza in Boston isn't good. But we loved Pizzeria Regina. Make sure you go to the original location on the North End. Good luck finding it. We got directions from the shop in Qunicy Market. No problem- but we are first class navigators. The only pizza place I've been to with a queue out the door.

And I should warn you. The old town area has a bakery on every street. The aroma is hazardous to your waistline.

(And the Trattoria Il Panino is the one on Parmenter. The one on Hanover is more of a normal cafe.)
 
Spent a lot of summers in Boston as a kid and still go back on occasion. My Uncle has a place on Beacon St. in the Back Bay area - cool neighborhood to walk around with all the brownstones and cobble stone streets in nearby Beacon Hill. Go for a run/walk on the Charles River.

If you want to cough up the extra coin, Green Monster seats at Fenway are a once in a lifetime experience. Do it :thumbup:

Nice! I'm doing a similar trip for a few weeks in July sans the whole wife thing. Looking forward to escaping this Texas humidity.

Freedom Trail (and yes do the tour of the USS Constitution). and Fenway Tour were the hits (wife not a baseball fan and loved the Fenway tour as well). We did the reverse tour (downloaded an app and just followed the reverse order tour recommendation it worked well).
Also walked around Boston Common and on its own some at Faneuil Marketplace.

Id add a stop at the Boston Public Library. Like the NY Public Library…just great old architecture and art inside. Beautiful.

We also walked from the Common down Charles St (after the Cheers stop) and down by the Esplanade at the Charles River

We stayed near the Prudential Center and hit up an Italian spot in Newbury St. but that whole street was pretty cool walk at night with shops and restaurants.

Agree on Newbury Street to walk down - has a nice vibe. Lots of restaurants interesting boutiques, shops, etc.

I can't really add anything new. We did a long weekend here two summers ago. Hit up Fenway for a game and the Fenway park tour, which was great. Did the freedom trail with a guided tour - also really cool, but very long. Echoing what others have said that it's a very walkable, clean city. I'd do it again. In our case, we paired the Boston trip with a jaunt up Cape Cod, whale watching, Chatam, etc. Really fun.
 
No desire to do more than 36 hours there, but any time I'm in the area I'm always sure to fit in 36 hours there. Beer somewhere around the park late morning (preference to Bleacher), day game at Fenway, go for a stroll towards Boston common after (pick a different street each time), find a place in Little Italy we haven't been before, put our name in, then double back to The Bell in Hand for a snack and a drink or three (because we'll be told it'll be a while with no reservations), then Mike's, followed by a one way Charlie back to wherever we're staying, find a joint nearby and stop in for a night cap.
 
I worked there for a while (a summer+) in the early 2010s.

Freedom Trail.

See an old cemetery, like a really old one (there are a couple by the North Church).

North End. Do the cannoli & espresso/cap, just do it. Restaurant: Neptune. Italian Restaurant: Mama Maria.

Hawk a ticket to Fenway. Used to be fun to scalp them off the street, can't do that anymore I guess.

Charleston. Just walk around, you'll love it. I love the Seven's Ale House.

Beer, beer, beer. Get some beer. But really just go to an Irish pub, it's as real as it gets in the US.

Food: Clam rolls, lobster rolls. Find a gastropub. Pizza.

I love Town Spa, but it's in the burbs. You could do it after the Pats game though. It's South of Boston like Foxboro.

Town Spa serves "Bar Pizza" - it's an individual pizza. It's a style in the towns South of Boston and heading towards the Cape. We all love it that style. Folks from other areas of the country don't think it is anything special.

If i had to recommend one pizza place here it would be the original Regina's location in Boston's North End. (And no one should call it Little Italy)
 
Some of my go-to items for out-of-town visitors not mentioned yet:
- Boston Harbor Cruise (great way to see and learn about Boston)
- Sam Adams brewery tour
- Boston Pops at Symphony Hall (if the dates work)

Also, outside of Gillette Stadium is Patriot Place with places to eat and things to do.

The real cheers bar is the Bull & Finch, FYI.

In 2002 it changed its name to Cheers Beacon Hill after striking a licensing deal with NBC.

My uncle was a regular there dating back to well before the show. He was built like George Wendt and people would ask him if he was the inspiration for Norm (he wasn’t).

With the idea in my head that Mrs. Smails is a foodie:

Ken Oringer is one of the best chefs to come out of Boston, check out Coppa (patio dining!), Toro, and Uni.

In the North End, home of the cramped Italian restaurant, make a reso at Forcella in the enclosed patio in the back. Best table in the North End, IMO.

An OG Italian food spot there is Terramia, as well.

The Beehive for live jazz and cocktails.

Dubliner if you wanna do the Irish pub thing, and they have live Irish bands as well.

Speaking of live music, Grace by Nia, walking distance from your hotel, and a very cool scene in the Seaport.

There are 10 good seafood places near your hotel, please don't go the North End and stand in line at Neptune. The bar at Ocean Prime is a nice upscale buzzy vibe.
