Brady Quinn (1 Viewer)

The Browns have messed this thing up from the start. First they pass on him in the first round then trade up to take him later in the 1st. Then they don't want to pay him. So hence the holdout. Then he finally signs and has enough time to put up a couple good games in the preseason for the Browns, and what do they do? They go with Frye and Anderson. Good grief. Even if the Browns were my favorite team growing up, I wouldn't want to play for them. Brady should just pull a Randy Moss and get out of Cleveland ASAP.
If Brady Quinn turns out to be the real deal, the trade was a bargain. Phil Savage has a great eye for talent. He proved that in Baltimore and he's doing well finding playmakers for the Browns. If Savage likes him enough to trade a future #1, that's one hell of an endorsement.Savage's problem is that he doesn't commit to building the OL and DL thru the draft. They probably should have had one draft class by now where rounds 1 thru 4 should have been on the LOS. They need top talents on the LOS and they need depth there as well. He's identified talented guys, but his focus is wrong. Spending high picks on the secondary doesn't help when you can't dominate the defensive line. He drafts and Eric Wright and Bradney Pool. I have confidence in those players. But he's not addressing the right area of the team.
This is only somewhat true. Defensively that front office has been very good. Offensively, and particularly at QB, they continually make poor decisions. Releasing Dilfer for Grbac. Moving up to draft Kyle Boller.

WKNR reporting this morning that Crennell won't hesitate to put Quinn in this weekend if Anderson struggles against the Bengals.
He made a comment more along the lines that it would be a good idea to give the kid in there so when he is ready for his first start that he would have a few series under his belt. Good plan.

i didn't hear the actual quote. i figured they were wording it differently. still, i am at the point i think they need to give him some playing time and back of the "once we put him in, we're leaving him in" stance.

Obviously the quote was in relation to when Quinn goes in to start. If he goes in as an injury replacement or for garbage time they are not committed to never taking him out ever again.

I agree. Especially if they are getting beat by 2 - 3 TDs. Let him get a few series in against Cincy, BAL, NE. See how he does. It can't hurt.

that makes more sense.

He's gonna see the field in some fashion soon.

I've heard the Lerner stuff to be true (about him going to the locker room and all that jazz). I've also heard that Lerner has wanted Quinn to start from day 1 and Savage/Romeo had to get him to back off of that. This is from a decent source. So from as far as the pressure angle goes, I think Savage and Romeo are under pressue from Lerner to start the Quinn era sooner than later (even before the bye week).

I still think Savage's job is safe and Romeo is the one under the gun no matter what Savage says. Romeo's axe will come from above. The players he has now are alot better than when Butch left, so there is no excuses for Romeo anymore. Quite frankly, I just don't think he has "it". Never really did.

I chose to quote this post because it quickly shows just how much faith this team actually had in the QB who just threw 5 TDs. That little tidbit never should have been mentioned in the first place. The report was that as soon as the guy struggles, he was going to get pulled. Doesnt exactly sound like a vote of confidence to me going into that game. Lucky for the Browns, the kid played the Bengals and had the game of his life.

But I wont kill Derek Anderson. He played great in the end and led the Browns to a win. So what does that make him now for Cleveland? Their QB of the future? The guy that's going to lead them to the playoffs this year? Or just one win against a horrible defense? Or is he on just as short a leash, according to WKNR, as he was going into the Bengals game? or still just a bridge to get to Quinn? Imo, the idea is to identify your future starting QB as soon as possible, give the guy as much experience as possible, and get ready to make a playoff push NEXT year. That is of course assuming youre not good enough to make the playoffs this year. I was loud about seeing Quinn start against the Bengals because I knew how weak their D was. It would have been a great first home game for Quinn to break in against a team that obviously cant defend.

The Browns got a win and for all I know they may think Anderson is their QB of the future. Winning is the bottom line. Right now, Derek Anderson has his 1st NFL win under his belt and has earned another start. And I hope its one that results in another Cleveland win. But dont kid yourself. The clock is still ticking for Quinn.

i wonder what sort of numbers derek anderson has to put up to keep this job?

will he ever build any security to have a bad game or 2?

or will it be one bad game and quinn is in?

or maybe out of playoff contention and quinn is in?

it still would be in the browns best interest to win games this year, playoffs or not since dallas has their number 1.

guess we'll have to see. it seems like not even cleveland management knows the answer at this point.
