I hate Scott Hanson. Wish they would muzzle him. Imagine if they had someone interesting in that role. Bill Burr maybe.
This.. Dude don't even know half the guys in the league.. Plus, he switches games at the totally wrong time.

And the DTV RZ guy was alot better.

Andrew Siciliano was the DTV RZ guy, and was way better!

He was a true pro. Rarely made mistakes, knew when to keep his mouth shut and almost never tipped recorded plays. He could be clever at times too. Basically, the opposite of Hanson.

You know who would be great on Redzone? Rich Eisen. He'd be perfect.
People would hate him too.

It's not an easy job.
Doubt it.
You would be wrong. Different voices, same choir.
Rich Eisen is pretty much universally beloved as are the other guys you named. Move Guy Smiley to the pregame, let Rich sit in the big chair and the NFL universe would rejoice.
First off; I cannot tell you how much I love a good Guy Smiley reference. Bravo. Respect and love.

Secondly enough people would hate Eisen or, believe it or not, Guy Smiley if they held the RZ host job. No one is universally beloved and the tail wags the dog far more often than not in 2024.

All that being said, Hanlon IMO is okay, not great, not terrible. Feels like we could simply train an AI to switch between games and give a brief setup of where the game is and not say another word until it switched to another game.

To me that's the perfect announcer.

after aiyuk somehow sinks BOTH my teams tonight, I will hate fantasy more than ever.
Traditional fantasy football might be dead. The variance is killing us and there is no joy in researching when the results are the most unexpected. I have numerous teams but it’s really unforgiving when start sit decisions go so poorly.

Perhaps just need to accept that the game needs to evolve. Hell even the NFL product looks worse than ever from a quality assurance standpoint. It just ain’t a safe sustainable game. At least fantasy basketball season is almost here lol

I’m not sure what to do. I focus on all of the wrongs and I don’t feel right about anything. I also don’t think I wanna waste time watching football anymore. It was abhorrent today

Just a thread to drop an amen or whatever.

I hate my fantasy football teams.

I hate my opponents

I hate it so much.

I hate Scott Hanson

I hate the guy running my team.

It's the same stupid thing, every year. Always with the bad lineup decisions. Drafts duds he starts, leaves studs on the bench. Just wait a few weeks....he'll have held an upside guy for weeks (months), then drop him for a backup TE or 3rd DST, and that guy will go off. Or the player that had been in his way will get hurt.

Every. Single. Year. Sick of it.

Worst part is he thinks he is smart and knows football just because he can craft a nice word salad.

I don't hate the guy, but sometimes I hate that guy.

Jordan Love going down hurt two leagues, especially the SF where Bo Nix is my backup and he looked like doodoo, And also lost two matchups by 1-2 points due to Montgomery's OT TD, was a sad way to wake up this morning. So from that respect, I hate fantasy football. However my wait on RBs and take the mid round value picks is looking pretty darn good, with Mixon, Conner, Robinson, and Dobbins pretty much all hitting for me. The leagues I was able to anchor with Achane in the late 2nd also off to a good start. Still hate fantasy football, but I guess not as much as I could (yet).

Finally retired from this silly game.

Was a heck of a run.

1988-2023

But I still enjoy talking shop and of course talking football.

But it feels incredibly liberating not constantly checking player stats. I finally got tired of it. But I think the whole point of fantasy for me was having a group of people I enjoyed hanging out with and watching football at a local wagering hole and cheering on our teams on, talking trash etc.

Those days ended long ago.

My last league was a 20 year dynasty that finally disbanded the day before our rookie draft with two owners just dropping out…..it was insane. Our draft is the week before opening night. Has been for 20 years.

Anyway it’s over.

To those still playing….good luck.

As for FF, I love playing FF, but the NFL has just become so stale to ne the last few years... Bad officiating, players having so much off field incidents, and alot never get punished, games overseas.

That interesting. To me my decline in the interest in the global NFL outside of my Chiefs (who of course are having the best run of my life) has coincided with my decline in FF interest. I flat out can't watch random teams play on Thursday, sunday, or Monday anymore.. i just don't care. Sundays with multiple games I can still do..

This is the only reason I still play.. because my 28 year league of guys from college still get together every year and have a great weekend. If it wasn't for that I think the last year i found myself genuinely excited to play FFL was around 2018. 6 years of going through the motions.. as commissioner no less. Went from 2 leagues and a pick 'em league down to just 1.

This was arguably my favorite hobby from 1993 to 2017/18 ish. Everything comes to an end at some point. I think the explosion of daily stuff.. constant gambling talk on TV hasn't helped.. Game has also changed very radically from what i used to watch (not completely for the worse).. but mostly i think i just ran out of steam

Stop paying as much attention. I tend to do better when i just dont give a ****

i've tried this.. unfortunately then it means i flat out don't keep up with the global NFL very well.. and I think my performance is worse because of it...

And while ultimately i don't care.. i still don't like losing

This. Same. It's almost like you have to play "best ball" so you don't screw yourself over by benching the wrong guy. "Best Ball" just isn't the same though as building a lineup with your guys. My excitement is already gone. The offensive play was horrible I know that was due to no pre-season. Defense used to be fun to watch, but they get penalized for everything. And already have two injured players.

Yeah totally agree. From 2003 to about 2018 I loved playing. The daily stuff has really ruined it. Also just had like 5 years in a row where injuries destroyed my teams and it kind of just takes the fun out of it... needless to say this is probably my last year.. barely dragged myself to the draft this year lol

I retired this year after 23 years of FF.

FF was a blast for the first 15 years. I couldn’t get enough of it or the NFL in those years. I watched every game, pre game shows, post game shows and analysis all week long. The last few years were annoying and not enjoyable. I only watched a few quarters of games last season and knew I was finished with the NFL and FF. The NFL doesn’t seem as fun these days due to the poor officiating and endless commercial breaks. I will watch some games eventually this season once I have some time after volleyball season ends in a month.

I wondered if I would miss FF this weekend and regret my decision . Honestly, I didn’t even think about the NFL. I saw scores on the news this morning and it was great not to care about games that really don’t mean anything or worry about FF.

The only thing I miss about FF is draft day. My league still does a live draft and it was always a great day with my brother, cousin and friends. I have been friends with some of those guys for 40+ years.

Good luck to those that continue with FF. I hope it is as enjoyable for you as it was for me for those first 15 years.

I deleted all of my apps on my phone and honestly don't even want to see notifications anymore. The ping ponging and the ADHD brain and emotional roller coaster of all of this stuff, plus betting, cannot be healthy for the human psyche. I think many people continue to get very rich at the expense of people who cannot stand to delete some of these apps or make these choices.

But, I think doing this is a sign of things to come for me. I actually didn't enjoy watching the games yesterday Redzone. and my fantasy teams bombed more so than they did not while others who continue to win in leagues continue to reap rewards.

I think what I enjoy the most now is actually forums, researching players, start sit decisions, dynasty and roster management, etc. But now to actually watch the games...I think this may be done for me and actually go enjoy doing other activities.

I think it'll be majorly helpful to not live check stats anymore or get notifications that are either really high or really low.

@DocHolliday @Todem thanks for sharing- your posts are very insightful and revealing! I can certainly resonate with them. It's funny how I feel all of the excitement and buildup I had for week 1...only for it to not really have anything positive to contribute to my life, even with some fantasy wins.

I quit staring at stats a long time ago. Those stats will be there at the end of the day and much prefer just enjoy watching the games. I'm more interested in the research involved in fantasy football and that can be done on days games are not playing.

Agreed! Hope deleting the apps and notifications make things a bit more manageable and proactive for me rather than just react to things that are SO high variance and meaningless.

Yeah.. first the NFL started thursdays.. i didn't like that.. i quit that first.. then quit the pre/post game shows around 2014/15.. then quit monday night football... then sunday night football... finally quit any non-Chiefs game. So now I'd honestly call myself a Chiefs fan but not really an NFL fan. I really wouldn't watch a non-chiefs playoff game outside of probably the AFC/NFC championship + superbowl

Well, I am definitely still an NFL fan. I love watching football. I love wagering on football. I watch tons of college football. I watch plenty of NFL football, but what I am not a fan of is fantasy football. That got really old and it was just becoming laborious. Most of the skill in the game disappeared when the Internet craze started, and everyone had access to everything. I love the days of when you had a dig deep for information and had to follow beat reporters, and it just took on a life of its own, and it got completely diluted. And now aunt Joe and Uncle Johnny all have fantasy teams . Like everything it became a multi billion dollar business and the NFL figured out that it was gonna make their game more popular. It’s in your face 24/7 days a week but not for me. I’m done with all of that. I don’t even watch anything that has to do with football betting. I’ve been betting on football since I’m 12 years old. My dad was my first book he taught me the way.

Traditional fantasy football might be dead. The variance is killing us and there is no joy in researching when the results are the most unexpected. I have numerous teams but it’s really unforgiving when start sit decisions go so poorly.

Traditional fantasy football is dying, but probably not because of weekly variance. That's always existed. But now you have legal sports betting, DFS, best ball, etc. which all scratch that same itch that traditional fantasy football does but in different ways. Hate making start/sit decisions? Play best ball - all the fun of the draft, none of the hair-pulling weekly lineup decisions. Hate when injuries tank your whole season? Play DFS, pick a brand new lineup to root for every week. Just want some players to root for on a Sunday without the stress of managing a team? Drop $20 on some player props. If season-long fantasy doesn't bring you joy anymore, don't do it anymore, but that doesn't mean you have to give up the hobby altogether.

The only reason I play season-long anymore is for the camaraderie with my friends in our decades-old league. It's the only traditional league I play in and that's just the way I like it.

I hate when my tanking dynasty team beats a worse tanking dynasty team week one.
Tanking week 1.....interesting.
:oldunsure:
Dynasty, also sorta tanking. Probably beating a team that looks better on paper. But Darnold, Jameson, Chig and a few IDPs had good games so there it goes. I still have Garrett left, it isn’ta total tank.
I took over a dynasty this year with the #1 pick. Harrison of course. Did not expect to do much this year. I actually put up one of the highest scores this week in winning both games of a double header. Not sure what direction to take now with this team as I still have lots of salary cap space. It's a shame there is not much on WW this week. Guess I'll take it one week at a time .

I think I'll always play, but the way I play has definitely changed:

I don't even look at my opponent's lineup until the games are over. That way I can just watch a game and not look for a jersey number after a big catch. I can just, you know, appreciate the catch. If the guy torches me I'll find out eventually. I want to just enjoy the games.

I play in three leagues, max. This year it's two, a couple of years ago it was just one. But it won't be more than three. That's as much time as I want to spend on it.

I spend almost no money on fantasy football. I've found that the more I spend, the less I enjoy it -- even when I win, which is weird. I care enough just trying to beat friends. That's plenty.

I don't think I'm less interested in football, or even fantasy football. I think I'm getting older, and other things have become more interesting. I've tried to find creative ways to include our hobby while acknowledging I'm not going to obsess over it like I did when I was younger. To me, that's a sign that I still like it. If I had lost interest, I'd have just abandoned it like I did with every instrument my parents wanted me to try. So I've set some boundaries that work for an older guy who likes doing other things, too.

I look back and can't imagine how I devoted so much time and energy to it. But they're good memories. Not a waste of time at all. And it's not all in the past, because I'm still playing. The year I played in just one league, I won it. That was fun, rolling with the ups and downs of exactly one team and winning it all. But it was fun in today's mindset, not the obsessive mindset of years before. I think it would be less fun to be like that today. But if that's how you like to play, more power to you.
