Brandon Jacobs to SF - Schefter ESPN (1 Viewer)

The landscape is really changing this year. It's been a long time since we've seen these type of movements in the NFL there will be a lot of questions that'll need to be answered.

I posted on the Twitter feed that the Easiest Big Guy To Tackle on East Coast is now Easiest Big Guy To Tackle On West Coast. Just not a Jacobs fan. What I do love is this means Kendall Hunter will be undervalued.

Adios, Dixon. Jacobs may not be great but he's an upgrade over the #3. That's assuming he even makes the team (we'll see what the contract is).

I think this is good for Gore who will be able to stay fresh for the 2nd half of the season and into the playoffs. Kendall Hunter is developing but I also think we like him a little more than the production on the field, not sure the coaches are ever going to make him "the guy". Anyway you slice you it, the Niners are embracing their tough guy image of hard nosed defense and a steady diet of ground and pound. Honestly, I'm a big fan of this team despite hating the Niners growing up. This is a total lunch pail team that brings it every week and would just as well stand there and get into a backroom bar brawl than any kind of aerial assault or puff n fluff like many other teams. I think Jacobs is a welcome addition by the fans. He is always good for a few short TDs, great OL in front of him that just mauls people...this is a great spot for him. San Fran is going to run the ball 35-40 times a game, enough to feed a couple backs. Gore will still get 15-20 touches a game and catch a few balls, I think Gore is a potential top10 again this season.

Grass, big o line, big defense, not much else. Seems like a decend rb2bc guy. Make gore bit less vluable but should keep him healthier. Good nfl move, and one of the few spots where jacobs could still have fantasy upside. While jacobs I no bettis, remember that the bus had a resurgence under similar conditions...

According to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, Brandon Jacobs was signed in large part because the 49ers "don't have confidence in" Anthony Dixon and view Kendall Hunter as a "change-of-pace" back.We had already dumped Dixon, owner of a per-carry average of 3.3 in two years, even in deep Dynasty leagues. The 49ers will ditch him next. While we remain high on Hunter's ability, his Dynasty value is capped by the coaching staff's view that he's a complementary back as a opposed to a lead runner.

As a Gore/ Hunter owner I'm not very pleased at what this stiff does to the value of either. And as a casual 49ers fan, I'm skeptical, as every time I watched this dude take a handoff last year, with very few exceptions, I watched him go down quickly with a minimal gain.

Don't care for this move at all.

Dixon is pretty solid special teamer and with Jacobs best days behind him and zero special teams contribution, not sure if he can even beat out Dixon. Jacobs is injury insurance and potential season re-signing in case of injury.

I'm not even sure if Jacobs can make the final roster. This doesn't really affect Gore's value imo.If anything, he may be fresher for the FF playoffs.

This. If Dixon looks great on ST, or they draft another RB, wouldn't be surprised if Jacobs is cut (maybe Dixon too for that matter)

Good riddance. He's a cry baby and when the going gets tough, he disappears. How a 265lb behemoth of a man can consistently not pick up 3rd and 1's is infuriating.

i love this move as a Hunter owner, an aging grinder back is more then welcomed then them drafting one in the draft imo.

Jacobs is a knucklehead and not a very good back. But he might steal carries from Hunter and TDs from Gore, if he makes the team (as noted above).

Don't forget that, Jacobs is very good in pass protection.

He is a unique back that if you get first level blocked, he will pick up at least 4-5 yards. If you get penetration from the first level, he will get tripped up at the line of scrimmage. If you get that first level blocked, he gets enough momentum to drive anyone filling the hole backwards and jacobs will fall forwards for 4-5 yards.

The giants were awful last year in rushing - jacobs averaged 3.8 ypc and bradshaw 3.9. This was due to terrible blocking by the TEs and also injuries and movement on the Oline. I believe Marty B will make very big difference in the run game for next year.

His best runs are the counter and the stretch handoff, where he can get up to speed.

Being big does not make someone a good short yardage back. Hitting the hole fast and finding a little crease to fall through does. That being said, Jacobs struggles were also more due to predictable playcalling by Kevin Gilbride. 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1, giants lined up in heavy formations with no WRs. Everyone sold out on the run. Play action would have been amazing, but the Giants were too stubborn on short yardage. Hell, even keeping your WR on the field and spreading them out would have probably been more effective.

I think this is a great signing for a team that needs help with their passing game and with a good offensive line that can hold the first level so jacobs can do his damage.

/one of my favorite giants

//very good locker room guy

///bit of a knucklehead, but his teammates love him

I also think his runn.ing style fits the Niners scheme. Lots of inside traps and wham blocks to get it between the tackles and get the RB to the LBs. As long as Jacobs can keep his shoulders square to the LOS he is a pretty decent back.
