1) He was probable2) He practiced Thurs/Frispeculation all week long that he might take the week off. It shouldn't have been a big surprise.
As for Brandon JacobsBrandon Jacobs , Coughlin said he is optimistic that Jacobs will be able to play against the Redskins after he was not activated in Arizona, even though he was listed as probable going into the game. Jacobs has swelling in his knee and told the coaching staff he did not think he could give the team his best performance. Players listed as probable are very rarely deactivated and whenever they are the league office asks for an explanation. "We did everything the right way," Coughlin claimed. "I really believed that he would play and then he felt like he wasn't going to be able to contribute. So then we logged every issue every day. What was our mistake? Listing him as probable? We did think he was probable."
MRI came up negative for any structural damage. Are they saying the Giants are lying? I dont see the point in that.Fanball is noting a small MCL tear and that some sources are saying he should play while others are saying he wont even suit up.So once again. . . .I will not start Jacobs till he finishes a game, and I have already picked up both Ward and Bradshaw
*note, not a Doctor but MCL grade 1 sprain/tear seem to be used interchangeably and recovery time seems to be 10-14 days (1-2 weeks). So, this may not be any differrent than the initial diagnosis.Jacobs news: News that halfback Brandon Jacobs has a small tear in his medial collateral knee ligament explains why he didn't play Sunday against the Cardinals. Jacobs was pessimistic about playing when he did some ESPN television a week ago Tuesday. Jacobs didn't practice Wednesday, is day to day on the Giants' injury report and probably won't play this week. Jacobs did some running Wednesday and hopes to practice Thursday and Friday, but he did that last week and didn't play Sunday.
What is a medial collateral ligament sprain?
A sprain is a joint injury that causes a stretch or tear in a ligament, a strong band of tissue connecting one bone to the other. The medial collateral ligament is located on the inner side of the knee. It attaches the thighbone (femur) to the shinbone (tibia).
Sprains vary from minor tears in a few fibers of ligament to complete tears of entire ligaments. Complete tears make the joint very loose and unstable.
i think no way jacobs plays this sunday.... anyone else think bradshaw gets more looks sunday in a true RBBC given ward's so-so performance last week?It took me awhile but I found the source of the "MCL tear" story. It seems to have come from Clayton's blog.

Giants RB Brandon Jacobs practiced in full Thursday, improving his chances to play at Washington in Week 13. He has been hampered by a swollen knee since Week 11, and he didn't play at Arizona in Week 12. Jacobs was not on the field for practice on Wednesday.

Fantasy Analysis
It's looking like Jacobs will play and most likely start for the Giants against the Redskins this Sunday. While he'll have a tough matchup, he might be catching the Skins without leading tackler London Fletcher. Your only worry as his Fantasy owner is him losing carries he would normally get because the Giants want to keep him as fresh as possible for the postseason. With that said, treat Jacobs like a No. 2 Fantasy RB for his upcoming matchup. The good news is that at this point, he's likely to play.
I hear you.. In fact i also have LJ.. the thing that bothers me with LJ. Is they(chiefs) don't seem to run that much, last week he gets a 60 run.. only to end up with 80 yards total.. I need to see some TD production out of LJ..http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2008/11...day_injury.htmlWell this doesn't make my choice any easier. I'd love to start Jacobs regardless of matchup if I knew he would start, play, and get the majority of carries like he usually does. I have LJ against OAK (nice matchup regardless of his last performance aganst them) and Grant (CAR has been weak vs the run lately). At this point, I can't see benching either one of them this week over a questionable Jacobs. And if he was OK, I wouldn't know who to bench in place of Jacobs. It would e easier for me if Jacobs was ruled OUT this week. This is a tough choice since I need to win this game in order to make the playoffs. Hate benching my stud in a situation like this but thats the way I'm leaning.
Good Luck.. I hope he is a go then.. Just don't know what to make of all of this, i would have bet anything he would have played last week, but now being questionable this week, Hard to say, Plus don't know if the Giants are telling the entire story or not..He is best option for me. I could start Jarvis Green Ellis as well.
VERY good point.. Plus i still think Coughlin, thought in his mind he would play, but Jacobs backed out at the last second, maybe pissing Coughlin off a bit, So you think the closer to sunday we will know for sure??Keep in mind that Coughlin got some grief last week for the whole, probable on Friday then inactive on Sunday. I don't really care Questionable or Probable, its the early game this week. We should know in plenty of time whether or not he is active.
You like LJ this week?? I also have him, but don't like how the Chiefs have been using him, as they will get down to the one yard line, then throw the ball , seems to me they are trying to go overboard with the spread offense, forgetting about the running gameUntil Jacobs plays and doesn't come out because of injury I'm rollin' with LJ and McFadden this week. Can't take a chance of a goose egg from Jacobs. LJ has a history of good production against Oak and well, the last time these two played DMac had over 150yds and a score. I'll take my chances with these guys over an unsure situation with Jacobs.
Try throwing Steven Jackson on top of that and that's where I'm sitting. At least I have Ward.I have a pretty gross decision w/ Jacobs this week...him or Bush. And I win, I'm in. Lose, I'm out Gonna be a GTD for me here looks like.
i just talked myself into replacing Ward with Jacobs ...... dance with the girl that brought you.i'm going Ward too ...... i need the sure points from my RB2(Jacobs has been my gravy all year .... loving the almost 30 combined TD's i've got out of Jacobs, Portis, & Boldin so far -the yards haven't sucked so much either) .... i think the Giants are eyein' the big prize, i think he sits at least 1 more week.
