Brandon Marshall quietly putting up solid numbers (1 Viewer)

What's the SP's take on Marshall? We know he has WR1 potential, but several dud games and scarcity of TDs put him solidy in WR3 territory last year.

Have we seen anything to indicate he'll be able to get into the endzone more this year? Or is he a sell high right now? I don't have any handle on the Miami offense.

Yes. Two things

1. second year with Henne

2. Treatment
Add to that his physical health. Last year he was never 100% due to offseason hip surgery. There is a whole thread on Marshall, I believe in the player spotlight series pinned above.

In short, yes I expect him to continue to put up solid numbers. Not top 6 or 7 but in the tier after that and a solid WR1 this season.

He looks healthy this year and Miami has thus far shown that they want to pass the ball. What worries me, and I'd say (hope) they will get if figured out, is of the 6 red zone targets he has had this year, some of them are wildly off target. It looks like Henne trusts him to go up and get the ball, but Henne is putting it where Marshall is not. I believe if they can tighten up their routes in the red zone, Marshall should be good for 5-6 more td's than what he had last year. That combined with his great ppr numbers should keep him going as a solid low tier wr1 with some upside.

Not a Marshall owner but I'm trying to obtain him in a trade right now, I think he'll end up somewhere between WR 10-20 with a small amount of upside if Henne steps it up a bit either way I look at him as an every week starter and a guy who will be consistent, probably won't blow up too often but I don't see him laying an egg too often either.

Thanks, initially I couldn't find the thread, searching on his name plus spotlight 2011 finally did it. For some reason the thread is locked though? Anyways, good stuff in there.Sounds like most view the 3 TDs as an anomaly and by all other metrics he performed like a low-end WR1, much the same as he did during his time in Denver.

sure...he was good last year...if you prorate his numbers for the games he missed he was about 96 catches for 1200 yards. It was just the TDs that sucked (3).... I think that was an anomoly and he should be right around an 8-12 WR this year.

No prob. It isnt the easiest thread to find and not sure why it's now locked.Oh well, we can just generate good discussion in this thread.

As skeptical as I am about Henne it is clear that he is radar locked onto Marshall and it will be shocking if he doesn't finish the season in the top 5 in targets. Henne is horrible inside the red zone so, while I think last years TD #s for Marshall (3) were an aberration, I still put the O/U on his TDs this year at 8.5.

somebody had a good comment about Marshall.....not sure what thread it was in....but it talked about players "regressing back to the mean" or something like that....

basically it talked about how a guy like Bowe is very unlikely to reach 15 Td's again....but a guy like Marshall is more likely to have his TD's increase......they will both come back to what seems more realistic...

I am a little more optimistic maybe than most for Marshall this year....I live in CO and watched every game he played as a Bronco.....dude is a beast...especially YAC....sometimes he just can't be covered...I think he will have 5-7 TD's this year where it is more him after the catch than anything else....and then if you throw in just the normal red zone looks I think he could approach 12-14 TD range....I have a feeling MIA will continue to pass more, even if Thomas gets it going....Marshall is the best offensive player on that team and can physically match up with any of the top WR's in this league (meaning on par with guys like Fitz)....I think Bess, Hartline, Bush, etc can draw just enough attention for him to have a big year....

They certainly target him enough in the red zone (6 targets so far) but Henne has only completed 7 of 17 inside the red zone so far. He doesn't look comfortable throwing on a short field and unless he improves a lot I don't think Marshall can jump to the 12 TD range. I think anything over 8 is gravy.

I was super high on him when Miami was out to make Reggie Bush the starting RB. Bush cant run, thus, Miami was going to have to pass the ball often. This leads to lots and lots of opportunity for Marshall as he is nearly always the first read for Henne. Since the Daniel Thomas showed something last week running the ball last week, Im not sure if this helps or hurts Marshall.
