Breaking Bad on AMC (8 Viewers)

I usually can't stand TV shows past cartoon comedies (South Park, Simpsons, etc.)
Hey how 'bout that.
:drive:Was talking to a guy at a bar over the weekend about this show (hadn't watched any of the season 3 episodes) and he spoiled it a bit for me I think. Said that Jesse basically goes from a somewhat loveable troublemaker to full out evil. :(

That's not really accurate.I wouldn't consider anything spoiled.

He did rape that chick though.

Yeah but that was after he shot Skinny Pete for holding out on him. Pretty sure he was "bad" before the rape.

Holy crap! I know I won't read this for months since I haven't watched to show yet (I have them on the computer and will watch over Xmas), but I have seen plenty of promos and didn't realize until this weekend that it's the dad from Malcolm In the Middle!

All I was saying is that Jesse totally went bad way before the rape. Shooting Skinny Pete...setting up Hank with his DEA bosses...etc. Now the one who really surprised me was Marie. Sex camming for extra cash? /

Still, when Walter sodomizes Gus....{WalterWhiteVoice}oh wow...oh boy, now that was really something[/WalterWhiteVoice}

Just finished watching all four seasons of Mad Men in about three weeks. That's a great show.

But it's nowhere near breaking Bad on so many levels. For starters, Don Draper is interesting. Walter White is viciously compelling. mad men is about a lot of flawed people In a town so big that none of them really matter after all. Bb is about a couple of people who were once good and are now rotten to the core and their behavior scorches all of the earth around them. Mad men is about dealing with ones inner demons and finding your way. Bb is about sitting by helplessly as the demons create a holy #### storm that smokey the bear couldn't put out.

Mad men is great. Breaking bad is EPIC

It's almost not fair to compare the two. Breaking Bad is great but it is manipulative and resorts to semi-cheap tricks to increase the drama. Mad Men is much more subtle and takes time to soak in everything that is happening.

Yeah, they're apples and oranges. Both are great. I think Mad Men is better. It's richer. And it has Roger Sterling.

Was that before or after he raped him?

I'd say the shows have two things in common: top level write/acting, and fascinating, flawed protagonists. Most people who loved the Sopranos probably found it easy to embrace both shows because each took that simple concept and put their own spin on it. Beyond that though, as has been discussed many times, each show is vastly different and entertains in different ways. If there is a difference in quality it's razor thin. Breaking Bad is easily the most thrilling show I've ever watched. I'd give Mad Men a slight edge in the writing department. I rewatched a few episodes of Mad Men recently and it occurred to me it has probably produced the most interesting female characters I've seen in a drama on TV, which for some reason is hard thing to do (Six Feet Under is the only other show I can think of that produced strong females roles). People hate Betty, but I think Betty, Joan, Trudy and especially Peggy are all compelling and developed wonderfully.

Nice...as I read that sentence I was thinking SFU, only to see that's where you were going. Well played.

:lmao: @ Breaking Bad not being nominated for Best Drama while American Horror Story is. What a joke. Glad they're giving Boss some love though. Awesome show for you BB fans.

The Wire never won anything. Breaking Bad shouldn't either.Only Two and a Half Men should win stuff. And American Idol. And that show with Donald Trump.

No mention of Giancarlo Esposito or Aaron Paul for Best Supporting is an outright shame.

Not sure if it's been posted, but AMC is showing the series starting with season 1 on Monday nights. First two shows have aired so far.

Or RJ Mitte.

I think I read it was a timing thing. The werent considered because of when it aired or something of the sort.THAT SAID...These awards are meaningless. As already mentioned, The Wire never won anything. Side Bar: American Horror Story is a show worthy of nomination imo.

I don't really follow these awrds that closely, but i read somewhere that this show has never done that well with the Golden Globes.
A lot of shows and films haven't done well with the Golden Globes. Many in the Hollywood Foreign Press are happy to take money and favors for their votes. It's been that way forever. Hell, many in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are as well. How else do you explain Crash?

I like a good horror flick but aside from the young ginger maid, that show is rubbish.

Just finished season 4. First two seasons were entertaining but nothing special. But after the last three episodes of season 4, I can't remember being more impressed with the writing on a TV show.

Question - what ever happened to Mike?

We left him in that makeshift hospital tent in Mexico after he got shot.

He is one of the best characters on the show, and I hope we haven't seen the last of him. Really thought he'd be heavily involved in the last episode.

I suspect he will be heavily involved in the last season.

Mike strikes me as the kind of guy who's in it for the money. With his boss gone and him no longer getting paid, I don't think he's going to be very involved. Maybe he'll do a couple of jobs for Saul, but I don't expect him to come back from Mexico seeking revenge.
