Breaking Bad on AMC (3 Viewers)

'Sunset' is a great episode. I think it got overshadowed because 'One Minute' came right after it.

Season 3 is pretty much wall-to-wall awesome.
 and why I think it's the best season. I doubt 5 can come close to 3 or 4 but we'll see. I think The Wire is fogging my judgement.

After watching the replays the past few weeks (3rd time watching series) I forgot how funny this show can be. Sure the craziness and violence is what sticks with you but man, do the writers/actors bring the lols. I couldn't stop :lmao: last night when Jesse first met Gale in the lab with his busted eye not to mention all the other funny lab scenes (Gale and Walts initial love fest + Jesse's alone time whilst waiting for Walt).
Like when Hank has them trapped in the RV and Walt is telling Jesse what to say. Jesse HAS to add b*tch to the end of one of the lines. The look on Walts face is hilarious.
 That humor works great within the show... Bob O and the constant attempt at zingers they write for him doesn't do it so much for me.

"we are going to do what you said""build a robot?"

"No a battery"

It's okay to admit you were wrong.

Jesse repeatedly misusing the word "Kafka-esque" because he thinks it makes him sound smart, is hilarious.

lol @ Walt fixing the table leg.
He even made an adjustment when his first attempt wasn't quite right. He sure has a fixation with making things perfect in his very flawed life.

The details are incredible.

When Hank gets hit, the bullet that gets him in the right shoulder looks so realistic. Even his reaction is perfectly timed. The explosive pack they used probably actually hurt a bit to get that right.

I have a question.

At the end of season 4 it appeared that season 5 was set up to deal with the fall out from what happened and with Walt being done as a cook. Cartels, mike, hank etc. Now with the previews it appears that Walt wants to take over Gus's operation. Is this a bait and switch by the producers or does anyone know the plot to the next season.

Wtf would you want to know the answer to that question? And if anybody else knows the answer, please do not share it here without a giant blinking SEASON 5 SPOILER warning.

I belive fallout will happen, but Walt's character has shown in the past that he won't stop the cook. With the end of Crawl Space, that may be the case moreso. The series has been the story of his moral descent and that should continue.

+1 trillion billion gazillion.

Does anyone think Walt will be alive when the show ends? It kinda reminds me of the anticipation of how Vic Mackey was going to end up on The Shield. I won't give that away for those who didn't see it and plan to.

I could see him end up in prison. A while back I said it might be funny to have Walt go into hiding in some tiny town where he has to teach chemistry to abusive High School kids to get by.

No inside info, but I don't think it portrayed him as done. Skyler just gave away all of his savings, so I was assuming he would continue to cook to earn it back. Sure, there will be fallout, but I don't think the two are mutually exclusive.

Granted I only watched the final once but I am pretty sure at the end walt says
Something to the effect like, Im done or its done or something like that, leading you to believe the next season is about Hank, the cartel or Mike.

Walt could be telling Saul "we are done when I say we are done" because he is still trying to find a way out. Saul could be pushing to keep going and Walt could be going the other way. Lots of game left to be decided.

I thought the line was "I won" rather than "I'm done". Maybe I misheard him though.

I watched the finale only once as well, and it was a while ago now. Unfortunately, I just deleted it off my DVR about a week ago. But my interpretation doesn't match yours. I don't think Walter White implied that Walter White is done. I think he meant that offing Gustavo Fring is done.
Also, that's how the season five trailer is portraying things. "The king is dead. Long live the king." Gus is dead, so now Walter White is the head honcho.

Just hooked up my Roku, getting ready to start Breaking Bad from the beginning. I've never seen the show, is it good out of the gates or does it take a bit of time to get going?

I've never seen a show that grabbed my interest as quickly as Breaking Bad. I also watched for the first time on Netflix and I think I hammered out four episodes the first night lol. It was so good, I wanted to keep going.

Agreed with this. The very first scene of the series with the pants flying in the air and everything that follows, right away I'm like ok this is weird and I like it.

Showing that out of sequence was brilliant. With the short attention span of most viewers, if the series started out with Walt teaching a chemistry class, then learning he has cancer, they may have lost a lot of the audience right off that bat. But how can you change the channel when the first thing you see is a guy in his underwear frantically driving an out-of-control RV?

2 episodes in. Im in for the long haul. Just watched the tub fall through the ceiling.

:X

I dont think I could have picked a better show to watch first on Netflix

I would advise not coming back here until you are all caught up. We've been discussing the repeats they've been showing.

One of Walt or jesse is going to die.
Jesse eventually has to find out about Walter’s betrayals, both the poisoning of a child he loves, and the murder of a girl he loved. Jesse has shown competence before, and if he were sober, perhaps he could turn into the student who outwits his master. Nobody would blame Jesse for seeking revenge and trying to take over the empire for himself, whether he felt he could run it or not.

Agreed. One episode and I was in need of my fix ever since.

So what's the verdict? You like this show or The Wire better, bud?

FWIW - I got my wife interested in this mostly because it's still on air... she watched a lot of season 4 with me and got into it despite not seeing anything before that. I had intended to re-watch a lot leading up to the new season (especially since I was going through chemo through most of season 2). She's watching along with me, and she's HOOKED. We blew through the first season in a night and a half, and we're halfway through season 2.... and she even took one of the iPads and watched an extra episode tonight after we were done.

Now, at the same time, I have been trying to get her to watch The Wire which she wants to, but I think the fact that it's "done" gives her a sense of being able to do it whenever.... but I'm really curious to see what her reaction is. I really value her judgment and critical opinion, and curious to hear how she feels about the two especially watching them both after the fact.

I've rewatched Wire several times, but this is my first time back through Breaking Bad. I got hooked after S01E05, and I'm starting to realize why... that's when it really grabs you. It's certainly more intense than The Wire, though more limited in scope. I'm starting to even appreciate Tuco - how perfect he is as a crazy, tweaker dealer.

One thing I can say, without a doubt though, is that BB's cinematography and direction is better... it's simply amazing. Rewatching it all in a row only adds to the narrative... and seriously, the close angles and distinctive "under the glass" when digging on several scenes is just... awesome.

Unrelated, Game of Thrones passed Mad Men in priority this last season with wifey, which I was very happy about. I even got her to listen to one of the audiobooks. She appreciates this ####... and now I just need to get her hooked on The Wire when we have downtime to get more input on which is better :)

I haven't seen this episode in some time, but I saw it more as not saving her, not murdering her.
