Breaking Bad on AMC (10 Viewers)

Jonathan Banks (Mike) is so :moneybag: ... all his appearances are solid. What an amazing opening sequence.

With all the love for Aaron Paul this season, it's sometimes easy to forget how good Bryan Cranston is. He is flawless in every scene. Oh, BTW... I am a gambler and I've been around gamblers all my life. Winning gamblers don't attend G.A. meetings or feel remorse for their actions. They keep winning and laughing and buying stuff. (I know Skyler went to the meeting for research -- but they mentioned Walt's remorse and the 12-step program at dinner with Hank and Marie)...

BB is dangerously close to surpassing The Sopranos as my favorite show ever. Yeah, I said it.

Sepinwall's review:

• Admittedly, we saw with Tim's visit last week that Hank is capable of putting on a good front for company, but he does seem to be doing better emotionally thanks to his work on Gale's case. (And, naturally, he's assuming Gale was Heisenberg.) He got prickly a few times - like when Walt turned out, unsurprisingly, to know more about Hank's mineral collection than Hank did - but that was in the usual prideful Hank Schrader way, as opposed to the self-pity of recent episodes.\
My favorite part about this is that if Walt doesn't show Hank up here, Hank probably never whips out that file. He got one-upped and needed control of the room back just like the old days when Flynn would drool over Hank's stories while Walt would sit quiet.

• I also have to assume that Jesse will be back in the Super Lab eventually, both because too much of the show leans on the Cranston/Paul chemistry, but because of the scene in this episode where Walt realized the surveillance camera can't follow them both at once. That has to pay off eventually - let's call it Chekhov's Spycam.
I don't think I agree with Sepinwall here. Was Walt really thinking the camera can't follow them both at once? Or was he noticing that the camera was ONLY following Jesse?
I thought the same thing as you, but both things could have occurred to the great Heisenberg.

Saul's remark about the Rascal scooter was hilarious. But not as funny as his saying "that may have been insensitive" right afterward.

Great episode. I am 3 episodes short of finishing season 3. It has been strange watching season three and knowing some things that would happen from what I have seen in season 4. Still enjoyable but strange. I have three episodes left in season three.Just saw the "fly" episode. Some really good acting there.
I could never do this. Especially with this show. I don't even watch the previews for next week or the "previously on" segments.

Great episode. I wish they would just kill Jessie already.

What did the dude who stole from Jessie have to do with anything and how/why did they catch him?

On how, in the prior episode, they showed the new guy (Victor's replacement) in his car watching Jesse's place. I'm guessing he saw the guy leaving with Jesse's bag of cash.On why, my speculation would be a concern that he'd spend money in a way that would draw attention with the result that the money would get connected by the cops to Jesse/Gus.

The best part is that Hank seems to be re-energized. His character was getting a little too depressing the last few episodes. Of course he could have just been putting on a show for the White family but the better bet is that this case has him feeling more like himself again.

couple of other points:

I think the camera was following Jesse to see if he was stealing because in the next scene he walks in his house and throws the meth up.

What was the deal with Skylar quizzing walt on blackjack?

I hope they post Gale's lab notes online somewhere. I'm sure there's a whole lot of comedy in there. I briefly saw a sketch of that sweet bike he had mounted to his station wagon last season.

also with the weighing everything twice. They hinted a long time ago somoene was stealing because the product was light

You don't want the show to be awesome anymore?
I just don't get how realistically Jesse isn't killed. He has a house full of users and hobos. He steals drugs from his boss. He acts as if he doesn't care if he lives or dies, is careless about his money and his profile AND was the shooter in a murder being investigated by the police. I get that Walt says if Jesse goes, Walt goes......but I got to figure that Gus can find some leverage on Walt that will make him keep cooking.

That's the beauty of the show. I could have said "I just don't get how ______ isn't _______" at least twenty times in the 3+ seasons, and virtually every time the writers find a way to make it happen that seems logical and reasonable.

I'm just wondering what Gus' play is here...He doesn't want Walt and Jesse, but he's stuck with them for the time being...

:goodposting: Jessie will be in it until the grande finale. My prediction is that Gus, Walt, Jessie, and Mike go out in a Reservoir Dogs type ending. Saul's discussion with Walt about how he knows a guy that can arrange for Walt's family to drop completely off the grid opens up the possibility of a Goodfellas type ending to the show, but I am not buying the Henry Hill ending. This show will finish with a bang. Until then I will be jonesing for Sunday 9 PM to arrive. Best show ever.

"it's a doozy, hold onto your hats!"
That was some very underrated comedy there. I was rolling with that line and all of the wife's efforts to script the story. She's not my favorite character, but this season they're doing great with how she is playing catch up on the scheme and trying to take over as the manager. The brilliant contrast with how Walt used to be the same way, but now he's getting careless and sloppy. And his wife is driving him nuts with the details - I love it.She can be annoying, but I do like what they're doing with her character.Such a great show with so many different conflicts on so many different levels when you think about it.

Skyler and Walt worked on getting to know more about counting cards and gambling to make their story more convincing to Hank and Marie and their son.

Even funnier b/c Walt is pretty much Skylar's equivalent when dealing with Jesse.

:goodposting: Skylar's now providing the outsider, new to crime perspective to seasoned criminal Walt, the way Walt had done the same to Jesse.

I'm curious to know where Mike is taking Jessie. If I had to guess, Mike is taking him somewhere to scare him straight.

Maybe he's taking him to meet Gus, but perhaps after Jessie was unimpressed with the guy blindfolded and beaten on his living room floor - Mike probably figured that he needed to step it up a notch. For as much as Jessie doesnt seem to care about anything - I'll bet that Mike can show him a thing or two that would change his mind. Im going to go out on a limb and say that Mike probably killed the guy who stole Jessie's money out in the desert in a location and fashion that would get Jessie's attention (maybe he buried him up to his neck and let the local wildlife eat him alive). I wouldnt be surprised for Mike to go through the motions of killing Jessie and just stop short.

Breaking Bad could go on for two more increasingly destructive seasons

While negotiations continue between AMC and Sony over the future of Breaking Bad, Deadline reports that things are looking much more positive than they did a few days ago, with “all sides confident” that the show definitely will finish out its run on the network it helped to build. (The fact that FX reportedly was interested in taking the series off AMC’s hands probably didn’t hurt.) Even better, all this leveraging could end up benefitting you, the viewer: Sony has upped its request from 13 to 20 additional episodes, with the final seven potentially existing as their own standalone season. So it’s quite possible that we could get two more full years of meth-fueled misery. Just think of how many more lives can be ruined in that time! Who knows—by Breaking Bad’s finale, Walter’s quest for self-preservation may end up destroying an entire city.

I kinda wonder if Mike is taking Jesse to clean up the cartel bodies that he killed, or maybe taking Jesse to kill that guy that robbed him?

I think it will have something to do with his family or little brother.

that would totally suck. The selling point of this series to me is that you dont know how or when its going to end with multiple outs. You have the drug angle, the cancer and now the disappearing. Making this go on for 2 more additional seasons would destroy the shows moxie in my opinion.

I'm enjoying this season immensely. I do think the show has peaked. But if we get two more seasons and it's inferior to the original, I'm ok with that. Two inferior seasons of Breaking Bad is like two inferior seasons of The Sopranos: it's still better than most everything on television.
