Breaking Bad on AMC (2 Viewers)

The flash-forward and the garage scene will get the most love, but the Badger/Skinny Pete scene was extremely brilliant, aside from just being comic relief. Badger and Skinny Pete are static characters. That is how far Jesse's character has come, shown in stark relief.

Saying which great show is better than another great show is silly. I'd also recommend The Shield to fans of BB.

I actually feel bad for people who don't watch great shows when they are on. There is a certain pace that comes with waiting a week between episodes and the pace usually works to the show's advantage. Part of the fun in bb is the anticipation of what #### is how going to happen next.

i didnt watch BB until i ordered netflix this february. I always wanted to see it cuz i heard how good it was and have been blown away. Its even better than i imagined. Best show on tv hands down past or present imo

My friends were talking about the best TV shows of all-time a couple weekends ago. A few people who chimed in admitted that they hadn't seen Breaking Bad. As far as I'm concerned, you're not allowed to have an opinion about the best TV show ever if you've never seen Breaking Bad.

Although a great point about him figuring out Mike is dead and Walt just stone faced lied to him. I actually liked Skylar for once and loved Hank closing the garage door. But Walt was foolish to threaten Hank IMO, don't back someone like that into a corner or they'll lash out at you.

My guess for how it ends up, someone had a good point about Jesse wanting to do things "his way" and the cycle continuing, maybe he will take over the cook working with Lydia and they will be the ones that out Heisenberg and force Walt into running. I also agree with those who previously posted that someone from Walts family has to die (Skylar IMO, dark horse would be Walter Jr OD'ing.) Otherwise it will just feel like the writers cheated

Actually, how I think it would go is that they're setting us up with Jesse. Everyone thinking he's gonna be killed by Walt, that he'll kill himself after moping around, whatever. But remember how he responded when he thought Walt poisoned his GF's boy? Remember how he responded after that kid on the motorbike was killed after their train heist? Remember how he said he wanted to...ALMOST killed Walt before? I think Walt is on the run from Jesse as the season progresses...and that Jesse follows-through on his (and Mike's) desire for there to be no more killing associated with the business. And the only way to make sure there is no more killing associated with the business is to kill the business. And the only way to kill the business? Is to kill/out/expose Walt.

Not saying that Jesse succeeds in killing Walt! But that storyline would make one heck of a lot of sense for me. And also be a bit of dark humor/irony, considering they wanted to kill Jesse's character off SEASONS ago. Make Jesse the bad-### who puts an end to the business, once and for all.

It's amazing watching Cranston's eyes and hearing his voice change as he goes in and out of being Heisenberg and all the shades of Walt. Masterful work by both and awesomely shot and edited. Jesse is the hero of the show. I think way too many people are expecting that for it to be how Gilligan decides to end it. It's the most obvious resolution, imo. Especially with look on his face as Walt tries to talk him down.

Clear something up for me. I've watched a million BB episodes over the past week and one of them just blurs into the next.

In the penultimate episode of 5a ("Say My Name"), Walt, Mike and Jesse meet greaseball Declan in the desert, and Walt convinces him to partner up, explaining that the methylene is more valuable in his hands. They agree that Declan will take over distribution in exchange for 35% and a $5 million dollar finder's fee for Mike.

Fast forward to the final episode of 5a. Walt sees the mammoth stack of cash. Skyler makes him realize that it's more money than they could ever spend. Finally, he says to her ..."I'm out." So what ever became of the plan to partner up with Declan? Do we assume he just sold him the remainder of the methylene? Maybe I missed it.

Maybe I missed it, but I really don't think they addressed it again.

They made the deal with Declan, Walt starts cooking with Landry, the lawyer and the 9 guys get busted, Mike goes on the run, Walt kills him, Walt gets the names from Lydia and makes the deal with her.

They didn't get anymore methylamine, so we have to assume Walt started making the Czech meth with the train methylamine.

It would seem that Walt made one batch for Declan then told him to piss off, in which case Declan's a real soft gangster or just incredibly scared of Heisenberg (still makes him soft).

Walt was selling to both Declan and Lydia. Lydia specifically says he can keep his distribution in the US, but expand oversees. During the whole crystal blue persuasion montage two cars meet in the desert multiple times exchanging bags. That's Declan. Walt also exchanges with Lydia in the coffee house. He's multinational. Now somebody else is cooking the blue. Whether the deals changed, Walt is getting anything for his recipe, and/or how unacceptable the current product ends up to Declan and/or Lydia will play out soon.

Everybody is talking about Walt killing himself, but what about the super depressed Jesse? He seems ripe for it. Perhaps he, the son of Heisenberg, dying is the catalyst for Walt getting out for real. Although what would bring Walt back then, if not something to do with Jesse? Hmmm. I guess we should just watch.

I posted this awhile back but Dean Norris deserves major props as well. He went toe-to-toe with Cranston in that scene and matched him at every turn. Two great actors producing an unforgettable scene. Truly great work.

Jesse is not fit for the meth business, and I think we all know that. If we didn’t know that before, we know it now. He’s got too finely tuned a sense of morality to be a criminal. It was a mistake for him to be a criminal from the get-go.
And to be fair to Walt, Walt didn’t start Jesse down the path of cooking crystal meth. Jesse was already doing that regardless. But Walt made his life so much worse. And that’s one of Walt’s unforgivable sins, and one of the deep sadnesses of the show: that Jesse didn’t have a better mentor than Mr. White. He didn’t have this man tell him “you deserve better than this.”
And now we’re at a point where Jesse just can’t live with the consequences of his actions. He’s got this terrible guilt that will not be ameliorated. He tries to give away this blood money, as he calls it, and indeed, that’s the name of the episode. But nothing seems to help. It just won’t be expunged. It won’t go away.

I loved how he could barely speak and you could barely hear what he was saying. Really showed how traumatized he was.

Yeah, the Dean Norris interview on Vulture goes into that. On the page, Walt is supposed to say that, grab his shades, and stride out in full Heisenberg mode. Cranston (who also directed the episode) decided it worked better with Walt sort of vacillating between "himself" and Heisenberg. They shot it both ways and used Cranston's way.

The anticipation and excitement for that exact moment had building for years (and growing at a feverish pace for the last several months/days/hours/minutes).

Somehow, when it would be hard to imagine it getting more exciting and intense, they gave fans another 5 seconds to lose their minds knowing it was definitely here.

That they got right to it in the first episode back was so impressive. I think it's safe to say many/most TV shows would milk that potential showdown and drag it out endlessly. Even "The Walking Dead" a show I love dragged out the showdown between Rick and The Governor last season (although the ultimate meeting was outstanding). Breaking Bad just said "F it" and dove right in right away which is what they always do. One of the many qualities about the show I love.

That last scene was damn brilliant. The final line was a surprise, as I thought Walt was going for the sympathy route and going to say something along the lines of it being sad that Hank didn't know who he was talking to. Then, "tread lightly" BOOM!!!

Yeah, I still think most all options are still in play.

Maybe he's in remission with a lingering cough (I'd assume that's normal given what his lungs had gone through over the previous 2+ years).

I also assume Walt can afford a good wig and fake beard, which would make sense for a man with a new identity.

I agree with a everyone that’s saying that this show is impossible to predict – it really is and that’s a testament to the writers, but I can’t help but speculate…

There’s a few directions I’ll be very curious to see over the next several episodes:

• I can relate somewhat to all of the comments about Jesse’s mopie-ness, but he’s going to have to get back involved into making product, isn’t he? Lydia/Todd’s gang/Declan's gang needs one of Walt/Jesse to cook and they will use violence to get what they want, correct? Walt can’t simply because of current events, so that leaves Jesse. Jesse won’t help given his state even under threat of his own life…. but, Walt knows that his ex and her kid are still staying at Jesse’s old place. Is Walt’s final irredeemable sin (or one of them) to point out mother and son to the gang and allow them to kidnap them to make Jesse work?
• I agree with those that have been saying Walt is going to fake his own death. There’s no way to definitively know whether Carol was shocked because she hadn’t seen the outed criminal mastermind for a year, or whether she thought he was dead (I believe the latter, but who knows), but planning his own death is the kind of brilliant “out” that Walt would come up with in a reality of very few “outs” that I can conceive of (maybe that points to my lack of imagination?).
• I think whatever prompted Walt to come back from his self-imposed exile (whether from Saul’s “escape” or his own faked death) has to be to come back to save Jesse (“son”), and as has been pointed out by the “Walt is now Gus” believers, either both of them get out or neither of them do.

exactly my point. just because he stops chemo doesnt mean he quit chemo cuz he gave up hope per se. Just that he had no choice being on the run. Maybe semantics but that was my point.

Everyone knows he is Heisenberg, he has an m60 in his trunk, and he just went to retrieve a poison for some nefarious reason. I would assume he knows the end is near.

That's been my thought over this first episode and the last few of last season. We've seen Walter rebuild his empire, make millions, and get out - seemingly with his wife's support. Walt's about to "win." Obviously, for the arc of the show, that can't happen. And I think somebody bad has got to put him over the deep end. Flynn's death would be the perfect choice for that - especially after Flynn learns how his dad made his fortune.

Eh, despite what other TV shows may lead you to believe, a lot of drug stings across the country are multi-jurisdictional. Could be that the DEA made the bust and the city chose to condemn/quarantine the house because they had the most accessible tools to do so.

Also, because Hank is Walt's brother in law, if the show really wanted to follow strict reality, the DEA may have decided to kick the investigation to the city/county/state guys because Hank now has a conflict. It's common for an agency to refer out an investigation to prevent an appearance of impropriety in the investigation.

Regardless, I don't think the city seizure if indicative of anything really. But who knows.

I think Flynn living out his life with the knowledge that his dad is "evil" is far more devastating. As odd as it sounds, I think his death would be more of a relief to him and his viewers. I think it's gotta happen.

What I could see is a dichotomy type scene where Jesse accidentally kills him or something while trying to kill Walt (to sort of make the incident with Walt trying to kill Jesse's gf's kid come full circle).

Really? Everybody is expecting something tragic like Sky, Flynn, or Holly getting killed due to something Walt does or neglects. Something that simple or Jesse killing Flynn would be pretty disappointing. I think it's unlikely though and these types of predictions feel to me like the ones saying AJ Soprano was going to take over for Tony.

Assets seized through criminal forfeiture are frequently split between the Feds and local law enforcement. I think it is unlikely that the City of Albuquerque sign/tape (versus DEA/Feds) is anything of significance.

Since everyone's mentioned what a great scene the ending was (and it was), I think we should also mention how great the opening scene was. A bunch of kids skateboarding- at first you assume it's a park somewhere. Then the camera widens, and I turned to my wife and said, "Holy ####, that's their swimming pool!"

I know everybody makes fun of him too, but imagine how devastating this is going to be on Flynn. Guy loves his dad.

Gonna be some unbelievably awesome moments coming up.

I can see Flynn getting accidentally killed by Declan and his gang. Or Todd's Uncles gang

This kind of stuff seems way too formulaic for this show.

Formulaic would be Skyler, Flynn and Holly survive where Walt is killed

I don't know what's formulaic, and I'm not sure it really matters.

But wives getting killed isn't new, and I don't think letting them live isn't "formulaic". Ask Teri Bauer and Rita Bennett-Morgan.

It seems like kids have generally been more off-limits, I think. I can't think of many examples, (Wire spoiler, seriously, can we get a ruling on the statute of limitations for spoilers?)

I remember both deaths being particularly shocking because they broke from norms, especially Rita's.
