Breaking Bad on AMC (4 Viewers)

Even if she gets an immunity deal, she can't testify about anything her husband told her without his consent. And in most states she couldn't testify about anything Walt did absent the assault charge. Maybe some of the conspiracy to launder money, though you run into issues with attorney privilege (Saul) there.
Huh?
Skyler can testify against Walt on the charge that Walt hit Skyler. She can't testify against Walt on charges that Walt did stuff to people who aren't Skyler.
Why not?
Spousal privilege.

First, to clarify, she could testify to stuff she saw Walt do if she wanted to testify. But she couldn't be forced to testify. A person cannot be forced to testify against his or her spouse in a criminal matter.

Assuming she wanted to testify, she could not testify about anything that Walt told her. She could testify only to stuff that she has independent knowledge of.

But almost everything truly incriminating that she knows on the most serious charges, she knows only because Walt told her stuff.

Leaving the rules of evidence aside, the call he made to Skylar was obviously carefully crafted and at no point did anything he say amount to a confession.
Yes, that's part of what the initial flashback was for. Before Walt calls Skyler to lie about having to stay late at the car wash, he carefully composes and rehearses what he's going to say.

We can be confident that he was equally fastidious about his call to Skyler toward the end of the episode.
One of the things I liked most about that call was how it incorporated things Walt almost certainly felt into a way to try and clear Skyler at the same time. Yeah, Walt knew the cops were listening and likely was giving them a cover story to assign all the blame for everything onto himself (a noble gesture in some fashion) but you just know there was still a layer of truth to what he was saying. He almost certainly does blame Skyler for the family falling apart; he likely is angry that she never believed in him (his feelings of insecurity are a driving force behind everything he does) and he probably does think she is a b***h who will never understand what he's really done and why he really did it (in his mind anyway).

That scene was absolute brilliance. The layers involved were incredible. Amazingly written and, as always, blasted out of the park by Cranston.

The "good" blue meth resurfacing would be a good sign that they didnt kill [Jesse].
I disagree with this.
Why? Todd hasn't been able to do it up to now.
Walt doesn't know that. (And anyway, anyone can make blue meth. Just substitute dried, powdered blueberries for chili powder in the original recipe.)
Lydia came to him and told him Todd's purity was no good. The Nazis asked Walt to cook as payment for a hit. Walt knows how long it took to teach Jesse and Todd didn't have nearly that much time. Walt knows.

According to Wikipedia, my gold standard for legal information, "Two further scenarios apply to defeat the attachment of the spousal communications privilege: if the confidential communication was made in order to plan or commit crime or fraud..."
Well, this is where I'll defer to Zow. Walt didn't tell Skyler about meth in order to plan to produce meth. But he did tell her about meth in order to plan to launder money. So maybe that exemption applies. I don't know.

Meth, now with more antioxidants - Lydia approves this.

I'm shocked he doesn't demand Todd to add stevia to the recipe.

Flynn knocked it outta the park this episode.

Watching the moment he takes Holly again and getting chills. Between the music, skyler frantic screaming, and him ramming the car and speeding outta there... Best scene in TV history

I was looking up the date of the series finale (Sept. 29) since I'm waiting until they all air to watch this season and some ####### site had a major spoiler in the title

Hank Dies
. Hopefully that's not true but if so #### them for doing that.

I just have a feeling Gretchen and Grey Matter is a big part of the ending. Could be way off here, I don't know. It was already revealed in 5a that a big reason (the biggest IMO) for Walt's continued cooking after his cancer remits is because of his fallout at GM.

You'd like Game of Thrones

Just go to Wikipedia for that stuff. Spoilers are contained unless you look for them.

Oh crap.... I just realized something that you guys probably already figured out (and I didn't watch the preview for next week, no clue if it was in there or not, but....)

Jesse gave up the location of the CD. Wasn't it in Hank's house? We have no idea how long Todd tortured Jesse for, but it seems like there's a good chance the Nazis go to the house and Marie is there. That could be a very dark way to begin next week's episode.

For her sake, I hope they went there when she was over at Skyler's. That would involve Jesse giving up the info quickly. But based on how he looked, it seems like they may have been torturing him for awhile. Can only imagine how we'll feel if the show opens up with the Nazis entering the house and running into Marie.
Not sure why they would have to torture Jesse. I would expect him to jut tell everything with out the torture.Maybe they just wanted to make sure.

I'm confused about the CD. Which CD would those guys worried about? It isn't the confession one is it?

Just an amazing series all around.

Yes, the videotaped confession.

Next two episodes are 75 minutes. Hopefully that's just not beefed up commercial time.
Plenty of time to squeeze in more "Low Winter Sun" promos.
It feels almost desperate how hard AMC is pushing this show. Then again they lose "Breaking Bad" at the end of this month and "Mad Men" at the end of next spring, so maybe they are desperate for another hit.
Oh, come on. They do it with all of their original shows.

I'm a bigger Mark Strong fan that Mark Strong's mother, but this show is damn near unwatchable.

red wedding scene was amazing. Thats up there to
I do
But with waaaaay more sobbing and tantrums.Got me there

I don't think Big Head Todd makes it to the finale. I think this week he takes Lydia out behind the boathouse and shows her his dark secret.

She calls in the Croats to avenge her virtue. If you think our nazi's are bad, wait until you get a load of the real thing. After they turn Todd into a fine mist, Uncle Jack has no choice but to keep Jesse around.

Just watched watched last night's episode for a second time. I really need to not be drunk when I'm watching it the first time -- I can't believe how much I missed.
wathing bb drunk is a ritual for me. Then I normally rewatch on Monday sober. Seeing this show drunk is the best way.
Watching Breaking Bad drunk might be good, but I assure you it's not the best way to watch it.

They should all get Oscars, because there is no way any movie can top this season.

But seriously, regarding the Emmys: Best Drama, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress have to all be a lock. Not sure if they do Best Writing or Editing/Directing, but those should be locks as well. Nothing else even comes close.

The way Gilligan and the cast have talked about these final episodes, something batsh-t crazy has to happen.

Marie, distraught over Hank being dead, takes one of his guns and blows her brains out?

Junior finally gets that job at Los Pollos Hermanos, then gets distracted and burns the whole place down, killing himself and a dozen others?

Lol

Come on now...

Skyler is running a distant third in almost every prediction column out there. They say Saul from Homeland is going to take out Paul, which would be ridiculous (although he is excellent).

Cranston is clearly deserving, but that is the most competitive category of them all.

And, they don't even have a nominee for BSA!

I was a few minutes behind, so I'm sure this has been covered - but the song was hilarious. Just absolutely perfect.
Good call. This show is masterful at interjecting moments like this and considering the tone of the rest of the episode they still pulled it off.
there were a lot of instances like this in the series...

i had never heard on a clear day you can see forever (or the peddlers), but it was great interlude music in third episode of final season, hazard pay...

the three mexican musicians that started one of the episodes about the cartel hit man twins (?) was also pitch perfect...

The Emmys this Sunday are for the first 8 episodes shown last summer. Skylar is going to get one for the final 8 performance next September.
