I see that. But I also saw that Walt was a little put off when Gale had all the prep work done without him having to say anything. I think he saw Gale as a rival and used the Hank/Jesse thing to put the rival in his place.

I think Marie was key in Hank accepting the El Paso promotion, she seemed more interested in Hank getting his recognition and due than Hank himself did.

And if not for Marie's dogged insistence that Hank get top notch rehabilitation, Hank may have never recovered to the point he could work again - other than a desk job. Then he never would have been back on the blue meth case.

And Hank's call to Marie in the desert is one of the 2-3 most poignant moments in the entire series. It wouldn't have the same emotional effect if Marie was just some off screen character throughout the run of the show.

I always thought his primary motivation was self preservation. He realized he was teaching everything to someone not loyal to him, but loyal to Gus. And someone that Gus had complete trust in. Plus, he couldn't control and manipulate Gale the way he could Jesse.

If you have never seen the show then I am seriously excited for the next few days of your life. I'll check back at 4am when you are five episodes past the point where you said to yourself "one more episode then I'm going to bed."

I felt I was on a multiple day binge just like the tweakers in Jesse's house. Multiple 1:30am nights, and I typically go to bed at 10:30-11.
